I'm 73 years old and grew up camping every summer at Albert Pike. As a family, we hiked to Winding Stairs and many other places in the Ouachita. While in college, I hiked to the Winding Stairs many times and even camped under the overhanging rock. So many memories. Thank you for this video. I especially loved the history and the drone shots. I no longer hike due to health issues so enjoy living vicariously through younger folks videos.

It's interesting how the marketing of our natural wonders so overlooks certain regions. Your spotlight on this area, and the Ozarks, is opening the eyes of people who are not already in love with the region. My family settled there after the civil war and I return nostalgic whenever I can.

In my opinion, there is not a better campsite meal than fresh caught trout prepared whatever your favorite way is. Add some salad or fresh veggies of your choice and you have such a fabulous meal that is so fulfilling in so many ways!!!! Great adventure with family, friends and good food in one of the most beautiful places on the planet and it is located in our beautiful Arkansas. There is no way that I can think of that could make this video better. Well, if I was there to enjoy it with you, that would be better!!!!! LOL

Folks like you give me hope for the future of our country. Im damn near 60 now and have slowed down a bit. I absolutely can't do the insane hikes you guys do. i can still do the kayak camp and cooks and island camps. Would love to see more of that. I consider myself a good cook in the wild but AP is next level. You are a very lucky man. I am a new subscriber and have been binge watching your vids in no particular chronological order. I got heart and blood pressure issues and your vids have helped me! Except for the one where Jonathan was climbing over the cliff just after visiting the cookie cabin. I about shyt myself. 😂.

Don't skip exploring Raven Branch, it's some unworldly beauty. It looked like Ireland or New Zealand, lush moss and fern on rocks as big as houses. Across the river, and downstream, from the cliff. I grew up in the Ouachitas, and miss it so.
@rangerdoc1029 Жыл бұрын
Where specifically? I'm headed down there next weekend and want to explore this area.
@lesliestout2195 Жыл бұрын
@@rangerdoc1029 I was there in the early spring so it might not be as green in late summer. In his video, at 12 minutes, the swimming hole and cliff is shown. We ate lunch facing the cliffs, on the big slanted (orange) rocks, of novaculite chert. Across from the cliff we went downstream a few feet, maybe 50-100 feet, and turned left up Raven Branch. It is a very difficult hike, some parts goat trail! You will find it on some hiking maps for that park, may be from the Forest Service. Local people didn't use the 'Raven Branch' name, and were surprised when they looked at the map. Just their private swimming hole. Also, we hiked in to the cliff area over the mountains, long way, but circled back to the trailhead quickly on the Horse trail through the bottoms.
