The concrete is fine. The water is not mixed into the footer. You can even pour concrete underwater. I'm a retired Professional Engineer doing structures, concrete, steel and foundation design for 49 years.

When we get ready to leave the house, I say Pocket as I put it over my head and Maggie Mae jumps in and settles herself, she LOVES her pocket! Hey Jordan, Concrete setting is a chemical reaction not a drying out of the mix, Although it will be slower the concrete will set up and will be stronger as a result. Just pump the water out and carry on as though you are normal.

Been watching you guys for years, love watching you guys work and 'learn' at the same time. Can't help but give my 2 cents from being in Structural Engineering and concrete design/detailer for over 40 years. Concrete = 'is the hydration of cement mixed with fine and coarse aggregates'. Once you have mixed it the cement starts reacting with water and hardens/cures. The water you had on top a 'few hours' after placement will work as 'curing' the concrete which is a benefit. Basically, your concrete strength is determined by the amount of water added to the mix and is checked by doing a 'slump test' before placement, and compressive (cylinder samples) strength tests after defined time spans to confirm achieved compressive strengths. (Old school term is ‘placing’ concrete, because if you say 'poured' concrete it implies it has too much water in it...lol..) The main problem I see with your mix is too much water in the actual mix you guys do. However, being placed in the ground, not in forms is a benefit. Any formed vertical or suspended placement should have controlled amount of water (slump) not just your 1/3/3 mix to achieve required strengths. One think that irks me is when you call things a 'cement' wall or path! They are 'concrete'. It's like making a cake and saying can I have a slice of 'flour'. Everyone makes this mistake, but I just cringe. Two more hints: 1. COLUMNS are vertical structural elements. BEAMS are horizontal structural elements. 2. As for the reinforcement mats at the base of your footings. The tie wire is only required to keep the reinforcement in place during concrete placement. Save yourself some time and effort. Tie corners and middle, whoever told you to tie every intersection is laughing their arse off... If it is small diameter wire/bar more ties may be required, but the deformed bars you guys are using would typically be tied ever 600/700mm. Keep up the great work. Cheers from down under.

Wouldn't that "assume" the concrete has hardened because here in Canada your slump is determined by what you are using the concrete for (foundation, pad, wall etc) If that concrete gets wet and hasn't hardened correctly then isn't the slump technically being changed ?? Especially if he was receiving 3 inches of water per hour vs a small rainfall that may not penetrate more than a few mm ??. I had a pad poured maybe 45 minutes before it started to rain because I admit I hired an idiot, we poured on the last day available before the temperature changed - only because it took him forever to form a pad. Anyhow once it started to dry the sluffing and flaking started off the top, then Winter hit. We are now in spring-early / Summer and it looks like shit (I painfully joke we got a rain finish), clearly, a few Canadian Winters will cause more damage on an already compromised surface. Btw He didn't get paid in full, he's lucky he got paid anything, the stories I could share about this one idiot could fill a book and I'm partly to blame for hiring him !!
@JackosCAD
@JackosCAD 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sunnbuzz Without getting too technical, your pad problem is probably more aesthetic than strength/structural. You can have a very poor surface finish but if the reinforcement is kept in its correct design location (defined min covers), then the desired strength is still usually achieved. The 'slump' is measured when the concrete is mixed and prior to placement. Many a truck is rejected if the slump is too high, a costly mistake when the builders/carriers keep adding water because of site delays and they don't want the concrete to go 'off' in the aggetator. Concrete placed in the ground (footings) or on the ground (pavement/basic slabs) for residential purposes (low structural loads) is usually of a low concrete strength (F'c=15 MPa) as it is simply spreading the load over the foundation material. The footing sizes (base area) are designed to suit the foundation material and dead and live loads its supporting. Load bearing or exposed concrete start from 20 MPa and can go beyond 40 MPa for precast or high load structures. This 'concrete strength' is determined by the defined concrete mixture. Here in AU the Engineer must define -> cement type / min aggregate size / max required slump prior to placement / min final desired strength. A normal concrete batch plant knows all the required mixes to achieve the final strengths and desired testing slump. The problem with DIY is people tend to keep adding water to make the 1/3/3 mix 'sloppy' and more manageable. However, the amount of water (for hydration of the cement) is the most important factor in achieving the final strength and should be looked at closely. Cheers.

Hi. Have you thought of digging a small drainage channel for each pair of footers? You can use something flimsy like thin wood or even cardboard backed by stones or bricks to block off the drainage cannel as you pour the concrete. Concrete cures slowly, but it sets up relatively fast. Once set, pull out the stones or bricks behind the cardboard or thin wood and knock out what is essentially a dam on the cannel so that the rain can flow out while the green, but set concrete stays behind. When you are all finished, you can fill in the drainage channels. Hopefully your footers are on enough of a slope that you can dig thin channels that drain down to daylight. More work, but probably worth it in the end. Best of luck.

Advice to keep in mind for future builds from a Civil Eng perspective: 1)The mud that will setlle on the top "layer" of the concrete pour will cause a bonding problem. So make sure to clean the setled concrete well before pouring another batch. 2)The concrete mix shown at 16:31 has a lot of water in it for a handmade batch. Did you put any chemical additives into the mix?? I dont know if you keep track of it, but try to reduce water next time (keep your water-cement ratios ~0,50). 3)For the flooded footer, dont worry if the concrete you poured had at least 20cm core. By flooding it after 1h (with clean water on paper) you do a good job curing it, ensuring that no water will lack of the chemical reaction that takes place. Actually you do more harm by putting more water when mixing than flooding it. The footer at 16:38 will have no problem. Try to upload some content when the water drains, i will be here posting. 4)I dont know what you are trying to build from a load perspective, but constructing indivindual footings will eventually have differential settlement to a non well compacted soil layer. This leads to column immersion that tranfer load to the upper beams of the structure thus cracks. One good way to fix that is by joining all 4 footings by beams,transfering loads to each other. 5)Try to seperate soil from concrete using naylon. This ensures that no soil will eventually get into the mix during the pouring process. (thats bad) 6)Keep in mind that the strength of concrete at the 7th day in comparison with the strength at 28 days is 55-70%. (28 days=99%) Sorry for my non-fluent english,

my concern is not for the strength of the concrete but for what the water did to the soil under the concrete. You need to have firm well draining soil regardless of how deep your footers are dug, otherwise the water can undermine your footers. The concrete footers may be strong but you don't want them sinking or shifting or tilting. No idea what you do with the flooded footers, but on the other holes I'd dig them so you can add 6" of compacted gravel under the concrete.

When milking the goat, place the thumb and forefinger at the top of the teat to close off the milk supply within the teat, then progressively push the middle, ring and little finger into the teat, in succession. This will create a flow of milk out the teat. It will be much easier and faster than stripping the milk as you are presently doing and be a lot more calming for the goat. It might take a bit to get used to but things will get easier as the hand adapts. Great vlog so thanks.

But we love him. All you have to do is pump out the water or just wait for it to dissipate. Not that big a deal. We get 52 inches of rain a year here in TX and rain can come with little notice off of the Gulf of Mexico so it's common here to get rained out after pouring concrete.

He had the basement poured through the coal shoot by a contractor. Thought he could spread it himself. All day it wouldn't set because it was so humid. We had no electricity. It set finally after dark. He was down there trying to smooth it using kerosene lamps. Long night.

If I were you I would invest in a few sub pumps so that when they are filling up with water you can just turn the pumps on and pump the water right out of the holes that you are working on, the concrete will be fine after its mixed and poured, the water will just slow down the process of drying.. so the pumps are just my opinion and suggestions to keep the water out of the holes so u can keep working without waiting for them to dry out by them selves.. With as much water as u get there investing in some sub pumps would be ideal for all the projects you want to get done and keep ur holes empty.. great job and keep moving forward and all will get accomplished.

I love watching all your adventures, Thank you for sharing them all with us. I was wondering have you considered building a solar trailor? Literally a trailor that you can move (but also stake into the ground during windy season), that has a contained bases to hold the batteries (out of the weather) and solar pannels on a solid structure that is angle adjustable to allow best sun capture. Then double your battery numbers and as a battery is full swap it out for a empty one n store (maybe under your house) or in a different section of the trailor for the rainy season. That would also allow everyone on Lola's farm the ability to access the battery supply.

You need to invest in a pump that you could be using in a lot of different ways and concrete should be fine if it dried a couple hours.

Hey guys they make a hand milker for goats. The brand I saw was Udderly Ez. I know that a sheep farmer uses it in Canada that u follow on KZbin. It doesn't use any electricity or batteries it is totally hand operated and has all the bottles and the fittings to fit goats, sheep and cows. Thought it might help. Keep up the great work.

Rain around here is always a challenge and you are in a very rainy area, so the key is how it come, forecast before you start anything. If you haven’t seen it yet, look at the Amazon area online to understand and relate better with the weather. In the summer in Brazil the raining is always the most strongest and unsuspected raining and I think that your higher level is as challenging as the mountain areas in Brazil are. You have a heavy nature around you as well, so the raining is a challenge. But you have been doing so well, so don’t feel frustrated, learning is a process, getting used to this heavy natural surrounding area is a most. As you do things will flow. As a scout I camped very much learning about the challenges in the diferente areas and I can imagine how might feel dealing with the raining season. I really like how you, couple, are determinant and make things happen. It is has really been a wonderful videos to see and also learn with many activities 🤗

So wonderful that your mom came out and you got some quality time together! I remember how it was, I emigrated to the USA and my parents still lived in The Netherlands. So for many years I only got to see them once every couple of years. It's difficult, but so great when you are able to visit. ❤️

One thing I know about farms is that there is always work to do, especially if you have livestock. I remember milking cows with my Gramps; early morning and again just before supper-time in the evening. Then there the daily feeding of cows and chickens and the irrigating and gardening and canning the latter of which my Nana did. It is not a hobby; it's a way of life. I loved it, and I loved the work when I was younger, but I never met a man who wanted to be a farmer, so I ended up in the city getting a college degree instead, but I never forgot the farm and I still dream about it and miss it. I love watching you guys build your dream.

Why do you even need a foundation? Cars, sheds, RVs, and more don't have foundations and they don't fly away. Even heavy furniture outside barely moves in huge storms. I can understand tall buildings needing to be anchored to keep them from tipping over. But do heavy single story buildings really need that much anchoring? Plus if the ground settles you can fix it much easier just jacking it up and backfilling under the posts. Plus if there's an earthquake it allows the ground to slide under it without ripping apart the building. I must be missing something and wish I knew what it was. I know the weather is bad sometimes but it's not like cars are flying around the sky in tornados.

I spent a YEAR bending and tying re-bar! I feel you. We build a concrete dome home and it was 4 -5 layers of rebar, overlapping over the whole 2 story dome (20ft high by 40ft diameter). We essentially created a giant jungle gym, then tied a backing fabric on it and shot it with shotcrete.

Also, when we poured our garage footer, we intentionally flooded it so that it wouldn't crack. We also watered our home's slab almost constantly for close to a month, so we could reduce cracking.

A Word of advise from an olde timer Builder . Lookup Batter Boards online. dont use rebar for stringline placement. It may take a little longer to setup the boards, but once you do, the layout portion goes quick and you dont have to worry about banging rebar and losing all that hard layout work.

Concrete should be OK if the water hasn't poured in at speed and stirred up the mix. normally rain just sits on the top of the mix, so while you might get a bit of unset soup on the top, once you've pumped out it'll be fine, if you are in the middle of pouring concrete in the rain, just make the mix drier and use the water in the trench to wet it back up, once trench is full of desired mix, just dig a small culvert to drain off the excess or pump out the best you can. It'll probably be absolutely fine.

Build some small A-frames (like a roof frame) out of scrap wood. Keep them stashed nearby your concrete projects. Make them so they stack when not needed. When the rain starts, set them over your footings, throw a tarp over the frame, put some rocks to weight down the tarps. Orient the wood frames so, as they shed water, it drains away from the footings. You can line up more than one to cover longer pours. Keep it simple. Keep is quick.

Hi guys, if you put a pinch of Bicarbonate of Soda in the coffee before you pour the water it takes away the acidity and becomes a lovely alkaline cup of coffee. Have been doing this for years and I only use a cafetière to make my coffee.

Water is not going to hurt poured concrete. Setting up is the process of getting the cement wet, not drying! When they make concrete, they remove the hydration from the stone. When you use it, you are adding the water back in to turn it back into stone.

You can cover the footers with tarps, but you can't stop the flow of water getting in there. Maybe consult a drainage expert and/or Google it. There's gotta be a solution to direct the "river" elsewhere! ☂️🧡💙💚🎶

It's a thermochemical reaction it won't affect the footers mate if it wasn't mixed into the concrete and as you poured it a couple of hours before it shouldn't affect it at all.. Roman concrete was poured and set in seawater and actually is stronger now than when it was poured 1000+ years ago! It gets stronger and stronger with time! Despite being under water if it made the pour go sloppy that would probably be different but I know they pour concrete under water in some circumstances, so I think you're safe. Cheers from London England 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The concete is fine from what I've read. Sure hope you went and researched it before doing any extra work not needed. If the rain is going come no matter what else is happening why not keep tarps close by for easy set up? My back hurts for you Jordan. I'm so very happy that mom came down for a visit, I know that must be hardest part of your adventure on Lola's farm for you guys as well as your parents. The time is fleeting and so precious! My husband Said don’t make more rebar because then you will have to drill to tie it to the bottom rebar, he does this for a living, he said just finish pouring and then cover them so they can cure. As you pour the water will come out.

Hey Jordan and kaylee and Baby Sadie and Lola and Rodrigo and uncle poo-poo and everyone else. Jordan, I'm sure you have a wet and dry vacuum so get it out and suck the water out. You will probably have to dump the vac a few times but it should be ok. When you get the water out build a ridge above each hole so the running water will be diverted around each hole. I can relate to your frustration because I've been there done that and got the t-shirt to prove it. I have always got at least one problem with everything I build. Don't think of it as a problem but think of it as a learning experience. When you have that much to deal with just spend the extra time it takes to do the "what if". Hope it all works out.

I have an idea 💡... Why don't you make sand bags (that you store somewhere). Whenever it rains, you lay the tarp/plastic sail down, and pack the sand bags around any whole or structure that shouldn't fill with water. It will then divert the rain water around and away, keeping whatever it is "mostly dry". We always divert rain water that way, with sand bags when we go camping. Hope it helps 😊

Chill boet. The footer will be even more solid now as the concrete will take longer to dry. You haven't ruined anything. Think of when they build Harbour walls and slip ways. Concrete is always submerged. Greetings from South africa

Your OK. The poured concrete is fine. Think about all the places concrete us used. Bridges, dams and lots more. Concrete actually gets stronger rather than weaker when it's kept wet after pouring.
