Enjoyed the segment on Ludington. So happy to see that the SS Badger is still running. Sixty five years ago my wife and I spent our wedding night on the Badger. It was a somewhat stormy night but the marriage has survived! So enjoy watching you travels!

I think this illustrates the dilemma that Loopers have when coming thru the Great Lakes, and we have talked to many of them over the years. You want to maximize your time in Georgian Bay and the North Channel and rightly so, but that always puts you at Mackinac just before Labor Day. Lake Michigan starts to turn to Fall weather real quick after Labor Day. We've been stuck in Leland for multiple days when going there after Labor Day. So Loopers end up blitzing thru Lake Michigan, unfortunately out of necessity, to get to Chicago. They end up missing the many cool towns and ports in Little Traverse Bay, Grand Traverse Bay and down the west coast of Michigan. One could spend a whole summer cruising Lake Michigan, that's why we keep our boat there.

We were really taken by how you have let your AGLCA burgee reflect your journey. You are also correct in that Michigan is a journey onto itself. It is a beautiful (our former home) state. My take on your comments over the last few videos is an RV in your future to explore more. Just saying...we did the same , boat, loop, motorhome, boat again. We SO enjoy your videos!!

Our freshwater backyard is certainly one of a kind! Thank you so much for visiting what we consider a slice of heaven. BTW that lake can get wicked ugly at times. Never underestimate her. Kind of like....when she is good she is really really good but when she is bad she is horrid. There is a reason it is considered graveyard of the wrecks. (You should have checked out the Fransisco Morazon on the south end of South Manitou. She is still partially above water. Interesting shipwreck with an interesting story)

Pure Michigan. =) Home. Nice to see someone else experiencing and enjoying it from a perspective I've never been able to. I've seen most of the state from land at one time or another, but the one time I've been on Lake Michigan we'd barely left the shore before I was nearly unconcious on the floor of the cabin seasick. The only time I can remember ever being motion sick on the water. =/

Its heaven or hell out there. Last year we crossed to Saugatuck on a glassy sunny Friday and it was pure heaven. On Sunday on the return trip the wave forecast ramped up and it was 2 and a half hours of pure hell. I would have paid an ungodly amount of money about 20 minutes in, to magically get my boat and crew teleported back to Milwaukee

@@Niki10-32 In North Carolina, we have the Pamlico Sound and also our inlets are quite treacherous at times. The Pamlico can be super snotty and SchoandJo have a video about this. We had a bad time about 10 years ago and my wife reminds me any time the weather is even slightly snotty. Bad memory for her and something like 30 videos ago Scho and Jo did a vid on it. Lake Michigan reminds me of cruising offshore in the Atlantic from it's look. I hope we'll get to do it in 1-2 years. Thanks!

@@bbmatthews2002 I used to look a the wave forecast and try to reason with myself that "maybe" we could make it.. but I think everyone has a trip that "teaches them a lesson" and I've definitely had mine. Now if I'm not SURE it's nice water. I don't go. Lake Michigan has different seas than the ocean. Way way more random with short and unpredictable period between waves. Bigger seas on the ocean are more manageable than much smaller seas on Michigan is what I'm told from captains who've been on both. And its funny cause EVERY marina I would meet new ppl my first couple years with a large boat I go to and talk to a few captains and ask "what will you go out in". They'll all brag about "Oh anything less than 7 feet I go"... Well.. I can now say... when its anything over 3 or 4 out there there ain't a soul. And I mean no one. I guess captains are a lot like Fisherman when it comes to estimating/bragging about size. ;)

Hi, it's me again. I trucked across from Duluth back to Canada for 25 years. It is awesome scenery. It is like that both shores either the northern shore or the south. So here's a thought for you. Trailer your boat to Duluth. If you have a beam of 8' you need nothing. If you have over 102inch beam you need permits. But if you started a trip there in mid April and go to Sault St Marie and cross to the North channel and then back down the western shore of Lake Michigan to Milwaukee. Then take a bus or plane or train back to get your truck and trailer and go get your boat or take the inland route south from Chicago. The only thing there is Lake Superior can get big waves so keep good tabs on the weather. But I can guarantee you will never regret taking that trip. Is roughly a a 1000 mile trip and would have 5 months to stop and enjoy the places you like. I have figured out what you guys like and don't like, and there's not much there you wouldn't like.

For folks really trying to watch their expenses, there are anchorage opportunities in most of the port towns along the East side of the lake on the Mich coastline. You could prob go from the Mackinaw bridge down the Mich coast all the way around to Chicago without paying marina fees. You might have cough up and pay at the extreme southern end of the lake, around St. Joe or Mich City Indiana though.

Not to rub it in but... in June crossed from Milwaukee to Muskegon. 78.5 miles. One hour and 50 minutes. :) (could have done it much faster but that is my 'efficient' cuising speed) (43 mph) Of course going straight across is incredibly boring after you've done it a couple times. The view doesn't change for 80% of the trip.
