I first listened to this track with the rest of the album May 19, 2023. I was eating breakfast. Mid-meal, I completely broke down. My wife came rushing over to me and she held me - hard. We both had family members who gave up on their own lives. We tried to hold back their darkness. We failed. We hope our own mothers are in a better place.

i know the pain. best friend and fellow musician hung himself when we were 15. I was supposed to hang out with him that weekend too. never heard from him. I came home from my sisters house to the news. It haunts me still. worse more his older brother went hard into drugs and i'd see him on the bus on my way home from work knodded off. he got hard into drugs he died of overdose about 4 years ago. he never got over it. they are buried next to each other. I miss them everyday. this song when it came out my wife had to hold me for a bit. it cut really really deep.

Vessel's voice evokes the ocean for me. There can be calmness, chaos, but so much depth and hidden facets. It can be comforting, but also feeling almost incomprehensible.

You know Rosalie, you are a beautiful shining light we are all uplifted by. This song by sleeptoken is so meaningful and when he says in a way they have gone to far and he wants to help but there is nothing he can do now but have hope and repeat dont keep doing it to them is a very difficult situation. To see someone in that mind set and know that you have done everything physicaly and mentally to help them and you just watch them cut deeper and deeper and get trapped in a depth of despare that is so hard to get out off is unimaginable. And your right. We should ask questions. Not just are you ok but dig deeper, show you care and if they say yes say "no, i mean are you really ok? Let them open their hearts and discuss how they truly feel to you. Sleeptoken like 'Ren' go into heart felt hard topics in their own way and they are so unique and special i am glad to be alive to hear their messages. I cant wait for you to dig further into sleeptoken with some previous suggestions i gave to you. They are just outstanding with an unbelievable voice. So relaxing and you just cant get bored of his voice. Each song is so different and built layer upon layer. I just love them!! So Rosalie, are you really ok? Xx

Vessel with the lyrics paints a perfect picture of the image of the message they bring. The music evokes emotions, but his voice and those lyrics are what create the musical masterpiece.

I had to pull over the road to listen to it. English is not my native language, and even when I can speak well and understand what I listen, I needed to listen carefully because it was touching me deeply. This is one of those songs in which there are no language barriers because the message is so personal that it will touch anyone who needs to listen to this. Like myself. And the music is just flawless, there's so much sensitivity, musicality, and soul into it that it's impossible not to feel it. A wonderful song that goes straight to the heart.

His voice reminds me of the late Peter Steele of Type O Negative with the depth and how breathy his vocals are. It grabs your attention and you get lost in his voice. I love the message as someone that deals with mental illness. Hearing music like this helps me feel like I'm not alone and feel like I can still make it through some of my darkest times.

You know Rosali, you are bright beacon for all of us to look to. Personally when i first heard the begining when diving into sleep token I felt like it was going to be a sad song. I think the slightly deeper notes gave me that impression and obviously the song title suggested it maybe sad. The two lines that is the "i want to help you but i cant this time" and "cutting deeper than the scars could run". These two lines to me stood out as they had real meaning to them. The pain some1 must mentally be in to cut deeper than the previous scars must be unimaginable and in that state of mind i truly believe that its really hard for anyone to help as you just want to escape. So when he states he doesnt know how to help like i fully get that in the sence yes they have cut deeper than before but also they are so mentally drained/damaged, like he has tried so many times but now there is nothing else he can do to help in anyway. Hes not giving up but he has physically and mentally helped as much as he can and all he can do is ask them not to do it again. Sleep token has become probably my favourite banned as his lyrics are so meaningful much like Ren's music and i love to connect with a song and understand the process behind it. I can't wait for you to react to other sleep token songs which iv suggested for you to listen to. Hope you are well and ill ask that question. Are you really ok? Xx

To me that sounds quite frightening. As a person with ongoing and long lasting heavy depressive episodes with a question like the title I always look for the catch, knowing that hope can be quite treacherous sometimes. On top of that, if I feel that someone is seriously asking me if I‘m ok, I always am terrified of loosing the last bit of self control and drowning in my emotions. I guess at this point, when the first beats of this track that indeed create a feeling of warmth and a glimpse of hope, also create massive fear of being dissapointed or played at again, maybe it‘s time for another try to get help. As always, very nice reaction! PS: Btw I‘m really glad that I found your channel, sometimes it‘s help enough to feel actually understood 😇 Greetings from Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany

Thank you for listening and for commenting and being authentic and vulnerable. What you said makes sense. Perhaps this idea of foreboding joy? Afraid the other shoe will drop? So auf die Art “zu gut um wahr zu sein”? When Someone asks that question. Afraid it’ll all come flooding in!? That’s very understandable. Sometimes it’s worth it though. With the right person of course. But we all need someone. Yes, I def encourage you to try and get help. You deserve that. :) thank you for being here. so glad if it helps.

I lost my mother in law on Mothers day, she was more like a mom to me tho. We went everywhere together. I tried for years to get pregnant and I just couldn't until 2021. I was shocked when I found out I was pregnant, but she was so happy. She got her 3rd grandbaby, she wanted a girl but got another boy instead but she loved him SO much. I just don't understand why she had to suffer for months and then she got taken from us. My son was her world. All 3 grandbabies was her world. Her birthday is July 23, she would of been 50 this year. So young & I just don't understand why God would bless her with another grandchild...just to take her 2 1/2 years after he's born. 💔 Angie, I love you and I miss you so damn much it hurts. BooBoo misses his nanny. We all miss you so much it hurts and it's only been 2 months yesterday on the 14th...but man it's felt like a lifetime has gone by since you passed. I was always told the mother was the glue that held the family together & I believe it. Cause this family is falling apart without you. Please watch over me and booboo, your son and your daughter and your husband. Just please watch over the family and give us a sign that you are ok. Just please give us a sign that you're ok and happy now that you're with your mom, dad, brother and your grandparents... and visit us in our dreams. We love you. ❤

I believe he is talking to his lover that lost their child in a car accident. He woke her up while it was still dark outside and then noticed her in the sunrise reading…trying to take her mind off of the loss…but he could tell that the darkness and pain was still there no matter what he did to try and make it better. She ended up trying to take her own life. It seems that this has happened so many times and he doesn’t know what to do anymore…but he will always be there for her.

Hallo Rosalie, So profound! 1st thing , that came to my mind was just this one word in that sentence: are you REALLY o.k.? This alone takes a lot of knowing the other side. Great song, for sure. I've been through so many situations (63,by now). A beautiful friend, becoming anorexic. Standing in front of the mirror in our house. Murmuring (In a way, I was able to hear it clearly): "fat face!". 1,81m tall. 54kg of weight, at that time. And I was out of words. I should have been able. I wasn't. I can still see it in my eyes like it was a picture I took. Hoping, that I could do better, today. From this point of view: asking back: "are you REALLY doing o.k.? I don't think so." Could be an attempt. Depending on how close you are. She is running marathons. Keeping her weight at some 61 kilos. To hide the fact, that she is basically still anorexic. Liebe Grüße aus Tangstedt!

To me, the opening chord structure has a searching sound to it. Like if you're were watch a movie and someone was just walking aimlessly trying to figure something out in their head. Which makes it fit the lyrics perfectly. Which Vessel just has that ability to do.

It’s a shame we live in a time when songs like this don’t stand a chance at being a hit, because the industry is too busy pushing rap/hip hop. Gone are the days when REAL MUSIC and songs that had meaning ruled the charts. Now it’s just “Look at all my money and guns, let’s get high, check out all my half naked hos, etc etc”.
