A guitar riff and drums that are out of this world, Corey Taylor doing the best rapping of his entire discography, and, of course, the band's usual rhythm changes. A masterpiece of brutal aggressiveness, in which the quality of everything is of a very high level.

As someone who also used to have a very hard time watching horror movies and anything gory, what really helped me was learning how special effects are done. Once you see how fake organs are made, for instance those brains are very likely made of gelatin, I find it a lot easier to see past the scariness and nastiness. Also I would love so much if you could get corey taylor to do a throat cam like Will, that would be so cool!

Back in the 90's they had the horror hall of fame on tv. (You can still find it on KZbin) It was like the oscars for horror movies and special effects, hosted by Robert Englund and the Crypt Keeper. When I saw how much fun the people had making horror movies and doing the effects, it changed horror for me forever. I have never been scared of a movie since. Instead I just fell in love with them, trying to imagine the ridiculousness of what probably went on behind the scenes and how they did certain effects 😂

Actually, being a black person in metal isn't as rare as it used to be, but it is still cool. Great examples are Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust, Derek Green of Sepultura, the entirety of the band Living Colour, Bonz (pronounced like "bones") from Stuck Mojo, the entirety of Body Count, members of the band Suicidal Tendencies, Tobin Abasi from Animals As Leaders, Doug Pinnick from King's X, and Diamond Rowe from Tetrarch. There's also the old punk band from the 1970's named Death, as well as the entirety of the hardcore band Bad Brains, and the drummer for Dead Kennedys. They've been there this whole time, and continue to thrive in the genres of heavier music, it's just that until recently, they weren't given near the attention they deserved.

Speaking of adding pitch to distorted vocals, I'd love to hear your assessment of former The Haunted vocalist Peter Dolving, particularly on the songs listed below. (The proper studio recordings, please, not live clips.) I find the breadth of textures and timbres he uses within a single song or even a single line -- from wistful to furious to, well, haunted -- unrivalled by anyone in the metal genre short of Mike Patton. Even when he pushes his voice into breakup it isn't a simple case of "monotone cookie monster mode: on / off" but rather a sliding scale of intensity applied to the melody, perhaps reflecting the degree that the thought being expressed at any given moment pisses him off. You can often hear the grit-to-note ratio shifting as he tears into a lyric, then shifting back again as the last syllable tapers off, as if he's been emotionally drained by the effort. Sometimes he'll pair one highly distorted sustained note with another -- a harmony, I suppose, though the term feels out of place here. "The Drowning" "The Medusa" "Done" "My Shadow"

I think we learned how to put in urinary catheters when we were around 16, and I remember watching an open heart surgery at 17. I sometimes bring up stuff that most people find offputting, sometimes even while we're eating. I'm so used to it that I forget that not everyone is like that. Now as a radiology tech, my job is literally to look at people's insides with a fancy machine, so I doubt I'll ever go back to being sensitive to it. Absolutely love slipknot, by far my fav group. I enjoy every analysis you do of them. I feel you would enjoy taking a look at killswitch engage," in due time", its got a great mix of harsh and clean. Almost disturbing how good it is... i would try the music vid before the live...

Killswitch is the best at clean/harsh. End of Heartache, This is Absolution, Last Serenade, on and on and on.

You have to do Archspire’s Bleed the Future. Would be so interesting to see that reaction. Plus the singer has a very unique technique. You won’t be disappointed.

From the same album ''The End So Far'', the songs ''De Sade'' and ''Finale'', as there are more clean vocals. And if I had to choose one of them I would choose ''Finale'', a surprising ending to album.

One of my favourite albums for having a blend of clean and distorted vocals is Avenged Sevenfold's 2nd studio album Waking the Fallen. The blend is perfect, even though M. Shadows thought process was sing where you can and scream where you can't. As they were struggling with writing vocal melodies at the time. It somehow resulted in the best blend of metal vocals I've ever heard.

Slipknot disgusting? Nah. 😂🤣

For a really good mix of distorted and clean vocals, I can recommend the band Glas Jaw. Both styles are gone very well, and there is a massive difference between them, as in the clean vocals are totally clear, and the distorted are nuts.

I know Max's ex. Very well. She gave my kiddo one of Max's acoustic guitars. She felt a budding guitarist could put it to better use than it just hanging in a back room.

If you want to hear some crazy shifts between clean and harsh vocals, listen to Timeless Winter by Into Eternity. That guy’s voice also has an amazing range.

Oh, I thought this was a review for Conan O'Brien's, "Slipnutz": We're the Slipnutz, slipping on nuts. Clowning around, and slipping on nuts. We're the Slipnutz, slipping on nuts. Look he fell down! I slipped on some nuts.

There's a jazz tune that would probably send you up the wall. It's by guitarist Mike Stern, and the title is "Chatter". The saxaphonist (the late great Michael Brecker) opens his solo with a long note that he bends all over the place. He goes in and out of the pitch, bith above and below. Personally, I love it, but it'd probably give you hives.

Indiana Jones and the temple of doom, i love how much effort you are putting into why it is that so many people love this style of music, it hits all the levels of emotion that you can possibly imagine but it also helps to show that the people who make these creations are extremely talented and it’s not just evil like the stigma has been around heavy music

I keep saying you should do a dive into “Soilwork” great vocal control and switches a lot between clean vocals and distortion, and the singer’s even been able to let out some 80’s hair metal vocals

I'm love your variety, however.. I'm not so sure the Patreon folks got it right this time. I appreciate your analysis of vocals, instrumental ensemble, and general emotional tone. How about A Perfect Circle, Vanishing

I showed my niece the video for "Left Behind" and afterwards she walked off and sat by herself for a while (Clown's head scratching freaked her out) and I had to explain to her it wasn't real. Granted, she was 11 or 12-years old at the time, but she wanted to see what I was watching and ended up getting an apology slab of chocolate out of it.
