It’s not all Petrys fault but holy the last few games for him have been absolutely brutal. Worse in context of his decision to pass to nobody when he had an open net to shoot on in the 3rd period against the Caps on Tuesday. He needs to sit for rest of season and hopefully he retires

He was on the ice for 3 goals and the 4th goal was the penalty that he took and they scored on the power play. So he had a hand in all 4 of the Canes goals.

Dump and chase is for fast hockey. If you win the race to the puck and get possession, you're golden. This team just isn't fast enough to do that successfully.

@@icedo1013 You gotta be fast and/or strong. Fast enough to get to it first and/or strong enough to win the battle on the boards. Which unfortunately they're neither for the most part. Larkin is fast but when he's on the ice he's usually one of the few players that can actually carry it into the zone.

That’s it for the Wings this season. They shot themselves in the foot. They had every chance to make it to the playoffs.

Theres nothing here to worry about unless your in the mindset that this team was expected to win games and be a contender in the playoffs. This was a year that yzerman plugged holes and signed good depth pieces for years to come. Next year maybe we get our drafted up into role playing spots or maybe not and he signs "all star" caliber players but i highly doubt that. Where's the goalie or the defense right now that says yes we can win playoff type games?

Jeff Petry could be looking bad because the offense might be crap defensively. The offensive guys seem to get out of position and seem to never cover the d-man pinching in. Also can somebody atleast lay the body on anyone? Right about now I don't care if they check their own guys, atleast get a good hit on one. This is frustrating to see a team quit so easily and I put that on the coach.

And continuously giving Seider the hardest deployments. It's a huge issue that we don't have anyone we can trust to handle teams top lines to the extent that Seider just gets next to no deployments against lower lines compared to other defensemen in the league. Pretty much always starting in the defensive zone against top level opponents. It's hindering his development and preventing him from producing as many points as other top line defensemen.

@TrevWire

Look, the guy is clearly and quickly nearing the end of his career, however to single him out is pretty ludicrous in my eyes. I see at least four other defensemen on this team that are not consistently doing their job. I’d like to also point out that they have at least 9 forwards that are playing really bad on the defensive side of the puck as well. Right now the Wings defense serves three purposes. 1. Dumping the puck into the zone because no one can consistently control it through the zone. 2. Skating backwards into the d-zone because they just turned the puck over again. 3. Racing to the d-zone because they were caught way out of position. I’m not one of these “fire Lalonde” people yet, but to me this clearly looks like something that could be addressed with coaching. You’re telling me they can’t come up with a rotation or a plan to make a solid entry with the puck? and Dan Petry was a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, helping them win the 1984 World Series. He was not a player for the Lions.

The biggest thing people are missing is that, again, we were told to not expect playoffs. We punched well above our weight class this season, and there's *still* a remote chance we make it in anyway! With regards to Petry though, I think he absolutely has been a liability for most of the season. That is not to say the random reddit user is correct that we'd have ten more points in the standings if it weren't for Petry (remember, we also signed Holl, who has also been pretty awful for us this season), but no matter how many times you run the simulation, there's always a chance any other player could also screw up. We lost 1-0 in Nashville, but did Petry do anything to prevent any goals against? Did he cover his man at all times? Don't forget, Ras kinda stood there and watched Forsberg shoot the puck that eventually went in, instead of... you know, doing *something*. So while Petry has been pretty terrible, and has contributed to a number of our losses, I would argue that he's not the only one.

He didn't really, nor did Casey DeSmith, he was pocket change for that three team trade, that's all. His last "ok" season was with Montreal, I still remember how he looked like the most defeated of all players when they lost game 5 to tampa. Definitely had the look of "I gave all of my remaining juice, I'll likely never touch that damn cup". Felt bad for him since he was 33 then and he had expanded his peak longer than his overall potential would indicate. I'm a Habs fan first, Pens fans 2nd, used to be Wings 2nd but not since they changed conference and ended up in the same division as the Habs, we didn't like him much either with Pittsburgh either, those legs are so much slower than just 3-4 years ago...he's likely getting that TOI because he's retiring after this season?

Might as well sit Kane and Larkin for the rest of the season. Let them get healthy. Shouldn't bring up the young D from GR 'cause they're in the playoff hunt. Let them enjoy the success they've worked so hard for in the AHL instead of bringing them up into a bad situation. Also, if you're playing the "simple, predictable" hockey that Lalonde preaches, good coaches can always figure a way to beat you. Maybe we'll get lucky in the draft for a change.

Detroit always makes emotional decisions-abdelkatur for example. it has to be a marketing decision by non hockey players. LV is expansion and is always in the hunt. they can't make excuses anymore. That dud coach blahsmell was a good excuse for a high school level coach though. Do a montage where he says " we gotta be better" .. after they lost..like a million to choose from. picking a player because you can make a "Detroit" story out of it is their mo. or michigan or whatever. Even Larkin is mediocre and where's he from? oh yeah michigan
