Hey everyone, this is the update on week 1 of my challenge! When I filmed this it was after about a week doing the challenge, but only 2-3 days of REALLY doing it. (because of birthday shenanigan’s) - so not much results. BUT i do have some good results to share! My headaches and jaw clenching are ALREADY better, I am finding quitting social media to be THE most difficult part, but (as i write this) I am now 5 days social media free! I haven't scrolled AT ALL. I am also now looking into listening to good books like I do here. I am listening on audible to Atomic Habits which i had recommended by many of you, and also some real life friends! I am on week 2 of eating my factor meals, (not sponsored) and am enjoying them SOOOOO much! They have REALLY helped me stick to my healthy eating plan and get a wider array of veggies/proteins. I am also drinking LOTS of water daily. (well, lots for me) 40oz in a stanley! I have been getting only outdoor movement/exercise right now as I haven't brought my peloton inside from the garage (but as I write this, I am heading to the YMCA in an hour to go swim! So i am definitely getting lots more physical activity) I will link what I am using below and will see you next week for challenge week 2!
YouVersion Bible App (the one i'm listening to - NIV version)
images.app.goo...
Atomic Habits book on Audible (not sponsored)
www.amazon.com...
*Stanley Tumbler 40oz mug (that I am using)
go.magik.ly/ml...
Factor meals (not sponsored)
I got this link from my account with factor, not an affiliate or marketing link or anything, just says "sign up with my personal link and you will get free meals" but I THINK you will get free meals anyways with their every day promo. I am unsure about this link and if its any different than normal links. It appears to be a referral link that EVERYONE who signs up, gets.

hey kristi! i'm a psych student so here's a tiny piece of advice: if you are trying to cut out social media it will be more effective and easier to make the change if you find something else to do in its place. crossword puzzles, something crafty, etc., anything that could engage you for the period of time you are having those urges. you're doing great!

Also isn’t it better to slowly wean, instead of quitting cold turkey? More sustainable…

200%✓✓✓✓ It's impossible to stop a bad habit and just listen to crickets. You have to replace a bad habit with something else. You also have to have a list of "things to do" for when your brain gets DESPERATE and manipulates you into your old habit.♥️🇨🇦

I think I’d get the smallest e-reader I could, load it with a few (banned😉) books, disable any wifi connectivity, and trick my brain into thinking I still have my phone.

As a therapist with 20 years in trauma treatment, this is so spot on. Social media is used as a coping mechanism to numb and distract. Gotta try to find a healthier replacement coping mechanism. Crosswords, crafts, knitting, audiobooks, etc. Also less self-help content period, even good content makers and authors! Get into your body and out of your head. Volunteer somewhere doing something that involves movement not talking. So glad we have a generation of young therapists coming up so smart and prepared to help others like you!

I just took an 8 week social media break and it was sadly the longest I've ever taken from social media. My life has drastically changed. I've been more present with my children and partner (he also took the break with me) I focused on my health journey and was able to lose a significant amount of weight and now I get anxiety going back to social media which i didn't expect. I feel so much healthier as a person just from this one change. I kept podcasts and KZbin to listen to things while I cleaned and exercised and I felt like that was the outlet I needed without doom scrolling.

Took a break from instagram for lent last year and i felt so good afterwards that i didn’t go back. I will very VERY rarely get on to look something up or make a post. I get on it like once a month and I have posted about three times in the last 8ish months. Ive been reading so much more. I feel better about myself. I am more present. I just kind of let people know around me that I don’t really use it anymore because I do miss things from other people and their lives. What i try to do instead is write to the important people in my life directly on whatsapp

I deleted all social media two years ago and I DON'T MISS IT AT ALL. I won't ever go back, not even for my job (I'm in marketing lol). Good for you for getting through the first week. It took me about a month or two to get over the FOMO. Now I read, listen to music, and enjoy my hobbies instead of scrolling and it's brought me so much peace and time to do things I actually enjoy. AND I feel so much better about myself!!

@tootynuggets for me toxic social media is seeing my family and friends accounts daily as it triggers intense fomo and feeling I'm late in life. Also doomsday topics are negative for me. But random videos on yt that are inspiring or teaching me something is a different thing and it brings me joy and connection. I removed all personal accounts and only kept yt.

I’m loving this journal. I’m Muslim but I’m glad you’re reading this Bible. Lots to weird hatred around religion now as if ppl don’t crave spiritual and religious experiences. I loved atomic habits. I really was able to get my shopping under control and was more careful about my diet after I read it. I keep a journal with me as I listen so I can write down prompts for later.

i was gonna suggest audiobooks and then you started talking about it haha! These have honestly changed my days. I also recommend deleting twitter off your phone if it's one of the platforms you keep doom scrolling on, i deleted mine and it's definitely helping! I cant delete IG cuz we can only post through phones, otherwise id delete that shit so quick. Something else, I personally hate hate hate exercising and i find no pleasure in it, but recently I got an exercise bike, and i do it 3 times a week while listening to an audiobook. Honestly it's not bad at all lol. I think a little bit everyday would be a nice addition to your efforts, especially since it's at home, it's nice! Don't be discouraged if your weight doesn't drop immediately, I've heard it takes a while to actually see it go down but then it continuously drops. You can do this! I'm a firm believer that little steps amount to big changes. I dont think suddenly making a huge change suddenly helps, I find that small efforts are easier to implement and get used to. So eventually on the long run, it'll last in your mind!

I’m so glad you’re doing these things for YOU! No matter if it’s a full on challenge or just little changes like atomic habits suggests. Even if you don’t do perfect one day, don’t exclude that day from the challenge! You are still trying and putting in effort! Of course you have to eat the homemade pasta and cake your family made with love! We still have to live and enjoy our lives, it can’t just all be about restrictions, discipline and being “perfect”. People who live that way usually end up miserable. Keep the happiness in your life whilst trying to make positive changes at the same time ❤

I’m with you on this and so proud of anyone trying to better themselves! Last year I got back to working out and I really had to change my mindset! So many times I would start and give up because I “wasn’t doing it right”. I told myself, working out one day a week is better than none! And now I’m up to successfully working out at least 3 times a week. And if I miss a week because life is wild, I start fresh again when I can and I stopped telling myself that anything about that was failing. It has been a GAME CHANGER. I deleted all my social media apps on the first. Today’s the 7th and I haven’t cheated. I allow myself long form content on KZbin and that’s it. I genuinely feel so much happier for what feels like no reason… but hello! There’s obviously a reason! I listen to audiobooks or read on my kindle when I really have nothing to fill my time with and that’s all. Good luck Kristi! We’re not failing if we’re not perfect. Anything we do to better ourselves is better than nothing!

One change at a time girl! This is why everyone tanks out by February. They make a ton of changes and it’s usually not sustainable. Pick one thing and stick with it for 2-4 weeks. Then add in another change once the first one becomes who you are. So pick one thing maybe nutrition, maybe social media. Whatever. I say pick the hardest thing first. Do it for a month. That alone will raise your pride and desire for more change. Atomic Habits book is amazing for giving change structure and making it attainable. You’ve got this!!! I’m so proud of you.

Hey, Kristie! Try logging out of your social media so you don’t impulsively scroll and you see the log in screen as a flag to stop when you just need a dopamine rush. If you need to look something up or whatever, logging back in is literally so easy. But seeing the initial log in screen will alert to you what you’re doing before you open the app and see your feed to pull you in

Yes, gardening! So so good for mind body and soul. Still try for healthy eating and more intense exercise, of course. But, it is said that gardeners live longer than most others. Non-exercise activity is so good for you, to be up and moving around different things, etc, for a duration of time, every day. So awesome! Keep up the good work!

Kristi. As a 33 year old mom of 3 who struggles soooo much with keeping my mental and physical health in tact, and making sure to be a good mom to my kids in the process, These videos are so motivational to me. I’m not one to comment on videos, but from previous videos I know that all of the feedback or views on this type of content may not be the best. But man, I feel you, I’m trying with you. And I’m going to keep following this wellness journey with you. You’re doing amazing, and you’re reaching your subscribers/followers in such a necessary way. You’re truly inspirational…Sending much love to you. Keep going, and I’m looking forward to so much more. 🫶🏾

It’s been 2 years of no social media for me. In the recent months , I would occasionally log in to Facebook through safari and like someone else said, I got sooo much anxiety going back to it. That’s how I know I made the right choice and life is so much better without it. I don’t miss it whatsoever. You got this.

I can't imagine having a job connected to the internet/social media, it must make it sooo much harder. I can't really be on my phone at work(I'm not perfect, it happens) but for the most part, it's put away. Makes a big difference

Hey Kristi! You may want to manage your goals. They are very lofty. Also, restricting food groups leads to binge eating, which feels like addiction but it's really just the human body's way of protecting itself and trying to keep you alive. Be compassionate with yourself!

I’ve been on my own “betterment” journey. I also started reading atomic habits and my Bible more. I’m trying to focus on 1% better and stop worrying about being perfect. The chase of perfection often stops me dead in my tracks and ends up being the reason I quit doing the things I want to do to become a better me. Trying to be perfect is so exhausting and unattainable. Releasing the idea that it has to be perfect is a hard one for me, but I believe that it’s going to be fundamental to me sticking with my new habits and becoming who I want to be. We’re in this together!

To the Adam guy (who I assume was reported) based on his comment, the “portion” of salad based where it comes from may be for 2 people but the overall caloric and ingredient intake of the entire salad is less than 700 calories. I hope it was the company that reported your “opinion” because it wasn’t fact.

Hey Kristi, vit D and magnesium glycinate is amazing for treating anxiety. My daughter and I take vit d in the morning and mag at night. The change in her has been so positive in such a short time. I still take an anti anxiety med so I'm not sure about me lol, but it's like the miracle for my daughter who's 25y.o, that I've been looking for. Seriously, it's been a Godsend. You just have to take them at least for hours apart. I came across it on tiktok (ikr) and decided it can't hurt. So glad we tried it ❤ You're doing a great job girlie, keep it up!!! I'm getting back on keto after the holidays. Boy oh boy, I do loves me food 😂😂

I absolutely second this. Women are commonly deficient in both. Also, I recently found out that vit D uses magnesium to synthesize so you really do need to take both. Amazing health benefits and so critical for so many systems in the body.

I discovered Magnesium last April or early May and it has changed my life. Last Spring I was dealing with major flare ups of anxiety AND GERD (Acid Reflux). Did a little research online for anything that could be a natural way to get instant relief from both those issues and discovered that Magnesium actually helps tremendously with both! The first day I took Magnesium I was in the middle of dealing with both of those issues and within 10 minutes I could feel both my acid reflux and anxiety going away. On top of that I was very surprised to find out that Magnesium also helped with my insomnia, which I also suffer from a few times each month. It truly is a miracle supplement!

Here to second (or third) this!! I take a calcium supplement and high dose vitamin D in the morning. As well as ashwaganda. Then in the evening I take magnesium amd reishi. I’m not saying this will solve all of your problems in a week. But after being on this combo for some time now, I definitely notice a difference in how I feel overall. Not as tired, not many headaches, much easier getting up in the morning

@tanyawasyluk1848 hey, well i just followed what was in the tiktok video to start with. 500mg magnesium glycinate and the vitamin D I take is Swisse but tbh I'm not sure I'm taking enough. I'm low on vit D so i just take what I need. My daughter's dose is different and she takes another brand. Sorry, I'm not sure what it is. If you can't see the link to the tiktok video below, then YT has deleted. I'll give you the user name so you can look it up. Tyler Wesley.

I’m a registered dietitian and I highly recommend seeing one. We work with the patient to find things that work for them without restricting. Biggest thing I tell my patients is think about what you can add to your meals not take away. I love talking about physical activity and finding something you love so it’s sustainable. I took a social media break for most of December and it was hard. But now I feel so much better and rarely check my phone. Doom scrolling is real.

I’ve seen a dietitian and it was wonderful. She never told me not to eat something. She offered slight alternatives that didn’t seem overwhelming and add ons. I cannot just stop something . I have to make slow changes.

Having a kindle or using the book app or kindle app on my phone has stopped my social media consumption sooo much and also having a goal for books read by the end of the month or year helps because it makes you prioritize reading. And I know it's not a popular opinion but because I use reading as a form of escapism I don't read self help, just fiction, either romance, fantasy, or mystery, just whatever you like. You'll notice over time when you get the chance to sit and do scrolling you'll start leaning towards using your kindle/book app instead and it's just so much more convenient than a physical book
