I ride from Yabelo to Mega, a peaceful happy ride through the southern part of the Oromia region. Before arriving in Mega, some locals give me some food to reward me for my efforts. In Mega, I discover a very remote and muddy town, full of strange characters.

1:49 The message of Christ was first brought to Ethiopia by an Ethiopian Eunuch in about 80AD after visiting Israel. So it was Ethiopians who first embraced Christianity 1000's of years before the first white missionary ever stepped foot in Ethiopia. Many American or European missionaries who come to Ethiopia don't realise this. Ethiopia is about 70% Christian while USA and UK are less than 40%. So its more likely that people hear about Christianity from Ethiopians and not the other way round. Islam came to Ethiopia 600 years after Christianity
@yaballo1

@Not really. Greek-speaking-Syrian monks brought christianity to what is today northern Ethiopia (Eritrea/Tigray). Then, a group of Greek, Turkish (Byzantine) & Egyptian monks collectively known as "The Nine Saints of Ethiopia/Abyssinia" spread christianity to tribes in northern Ethiopia, built the famous monasteries such as Debre-Damo & translated the very first bible into Geez (local language) from the Greek language. And, the first attempt was made to translate the bible into the Amharic (official language of Ethiopia) some 1500 (?) years later, ALSO by foreigners aka by Arabic-speaking Egyptian monks (Copts) who served in Ethiopia. But, that version of the bible contained many errors & was inaccurate. Finally, the complete & a bit more accurate bible was translated again in 1962 G.C. -aka more than 1700 years after christianity was first introduced into northern Ethiopia! - but mostly via the hard-work/effort of white men (British), who have mastered BOTH the Egyptian-Arabic (source language of the bible to be translated) & the Amharic (the official language of Ethiopia). This 'final & definitive Amharic bible' was launched by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1962 G.C. - that is 1600 years after christianty was introduced into northern Ethiopia by the mentioned Greek-speaking Syrian monks! Nearly ALL bishops who headed the Ethiopian orthodox church were Arabic-speaking Coptic/Egyptian monks sent as bishops to Ethiopia from the city of Alexandria, located on the Mediterranean sea. The first native+black/Ethiopian bishop appointed as head of "the Ethiopian orthodox church" was approved by Egyptian bishops in Alexandria, only in the early 1960s G.C. (1700+ years after christianity was introduced to Ethiopia by white/Greek/Syrian monks)! This was the time when most African countries got their independence from their colonial masters. @That is: the Ethiopian/Abyssinian orthodox church was a COLONIAL OUTPOST of the Egyptian orthodox church. OK? @ALSO: A KEY REFERENCE: .. BY: Ullendorff, Edward. Oxford University press, 1968 G.C.).

@xmateinc You talk about Christian, but at the same time, you don't believe in the Bible, but the foundation of Christianity is the word of God that is the Bible..not a story.. you need to read it yourself. It well heal you and your soul and body and spirit. The word of God is a 💊 .
@xmateinc
@xmateinc 11 ай бұрын
@@Lemlem7682 I’ve read the Bible, thats why I know its just a book of stories. People can convince themselves of anything. Look at the natural world around you and its easy to see there is no creator that wants us to worship them a certain way. If Christianity is right then god is a psychopath, that says he loves you but if you don’t live way he wants then its off to hell forever. Sounds like any other abusive relationship. I find most religious people have a hard time accepting reality, so they wall themselves in to a really small world, and are happy being told what to do by the Bible. Religion does nothing but try and make you feel guilty for being yourself and wants you to act a certain way under fear of burning in hell forever.

The roads are great, very impressed. I have also been to places in Ethiopia like the hotel you staid at. I guess it isn't nice but paradoxically one manages somehow, the lack of water and the lack of cleanliness at times. After a long day, I found I could fall asleep anywhere! It made me really appreciate the days when I did stay at really good clean places with water! Cant wait for the next ride! So green. Ethiopia is so beautiful. Thanks for posting.

@Kino: thanks a lot for another very nice video on southern Ethiopia. Your effort to master local forms of greetings is very impressive too. PS: yes, 1) - "Akkami?" (Oromo language) = Hi/hello? 2) - "nagumaa"? = are you well? 3) - Galatoma = thank you. The same forms of greetings are used in northern/eastern Kenya too where the Borana (Oromo) language is used along Swahili. But, in Kenya the locals speak a much better English & are more familiar with ferenjis/muzungus/white people. So, you will have less difficulties to communicate with the ordinary people in northern Kenya. @Also, that road was built decades ago (1970s) as part of the Cairo-to-Cape Town 'Trans-African Highway'. It was meant to bring the African countries closer via trade, etc. But, that has not happened. To begin with, only sections of that highway were completed. For example, the Kenyan part (Moyale-to-Isiolo, 700Kms?) was completed/asphalted only 2 years ago. The road project was financed by the World Bank. Safe trip!
