My least fav thing on the RYTM is saving and managing sounds and samples which has a slow workflow. So I spent a full day building out my favorite sounds and organizing them bank. All my kicks are in A, snares in B, etc. Now I can open the browser, hit the bank, and scroll through all my sounds already sorted by type to very quickly audition everything. It took a bunch of timing saving my fav sounds and samples saved as sounds all done on the desktop app. It has made the workflow much faster.

Great idea! When you take those sounds and tweak them though, do you then just add that as a new sound to your list so you’re not overwriting the original?

I have to say, I understand sometimes why people on Reddit or elsewhere get frustrated with your content. I do think that in the past, it’s come off as especially sales pitchy I think that some of that has to do with the fantastic gloss of your videos which how can you really fault a KZbinr for professionalism but I also think it had to do with the rotating gear And perhaps more of an emphasis on new things and purchasing stuff and that being a big part of the pursuit of music, whereas some KZbinrs have many staple items, and perhaps a few things that come in and out or are being reviewed or demoed as part of a paid promotion it seemed in the past that your gear was in a constant state of flux and I do understand why that came off to people as more overly pro consumerist however, these past few months I feel like a lot of of that rhetoric has been negated. Personally, I see now that you were going through a process that many of us go through, which is finding your sound in conjunction with finding your gear just because you may be hadn’t developed a strong character as an artist that you felt connected to, doesn’t mean you can’t start exploring gear. My own process has been very circular. I seek out equipment that I think will help me achieve the sound that I hear in my head or that I imagine for myself sometimes it does that and that’s great other times it doesn’t do that and I don’t like it and I get rid of it but sometimes I work with a piece of gear and it doesn’t do what I expected but actually guides the sound I hear in my head in another direction once I’ve learned it and really started messing with it the kind of music that I wanna make, and that I feel connected to has also changed. Often the things that I think I want to make I finally am able to make and then realized that it’s not what I want to be making. I always thought that the music you made was perfectly fine and quite competent but as you have explored different pieces of gear and different peoples set ups And move more towards techno and immediacy and improvisation I feel your connection to the music so much more I feel your excitement and your personality come through so much more. In hindsight, I think that people were hating on you for doing publicly. What many people do privately, which is trying to find a set up that gels with them and discovering in the process that what they thought they wanted, wasn’t what they actually wanted more than that I think you’ve exposed an uncomfortable, but important to acknowledge truth about making music with hardware: buying and selling gear, growing accustomed to certain brands and products and workflows, being somewhat caught up in the capitalist, flux of marketing, and and ever changing landscape of tools for expression it’s something that comes with the territory. I think that the vintage diehards deal with that reality in one way I think that the brand fan boys deal with it in another. I don’t think that there’s a morally right or wrong way to approach it. It’s a creative pursuit that has a very deep relationship with capitalism the instruments that we use our products of massive complex supply chains that are themselves products of capitalism and often involve exploitation and cutthroat competition. The act of buying and selling these expensive luxury items fuels so much anxiety about where we ourselves fall on the capitalist, totem pole. And to feel like perhaps our creative potential could be more fully realized if only we had the money if only we had the time if only we had the bigger house the bigger apartment I understand why encountering that freaks people out. But I think you’ve shown that if carefully considered and done overtime, there is some fulfillment and some connection with the instruments that we have that is possible and it may just be that all of this buying and selling brand new this brand new that more power more steps more analog business is just a set of hazards that we may have to navigate

Certainly! The commenter explains that people have been frustrated with the focus on constantly showcasing and switching gear, viewing it as overly commercial. They suggest that while some critique was valid, it ignored the personal process of developing a unique sound. They relate their own experience of refining their music by experimenting with different equipment, acknowledging that this journey can lead to important insights but also frustration. The commenter points out that the relationship between music creation and capitalism, especially with hardware, creates challenges, but there is no moral right or wrong approach to this. The process is personal and complex.

This was great, man! When you finish a beat like this, do you go and save every sound into a kit or do you just leave them as is in the pattern? Choke groups, not mute groups
@LiamKillen26 күн бұрын
Either or
@pedropedropedro79525 күн бұрын
@@LiamKillen Hmmm, not really. A choke group is used to stop one sound from playing when another sound in the same group is triggered. It’s often used with drums. For example, playing a closed hi-hat will automatically cut off any open hi-hat sound that’s still ringing out, creating a more realistic interaction between the two sounds. The effect is designed to mimic the natural cutoff effect of acoustic drum kits. A mute group is used to mute multiple sounds at the same time, allowing them to be controlled collectively. When a mute group is activated, it can silence all sounds in the group with a single action, but it does not necessarily cut off one sound just because another in the group is triggered.
