What a great job and decision to lower the height of cut. Thats when the reel mower comes into its own. Edging shears are not for everyone and they take a wee bit of getting used to using, but I like them and the edges will look crisper soon. Keep up the great work big man.

Cheers 👍🏻 Can't believe the difference in the lawns this year, especially using the cylinder. Last year, the lawns I had looked good, but no where near these!
@Budget_Gardener5 ай бұрын
Stand the shears more up right when using them and your get a better cut. I use them to do my edges also. 🙂
@HepcatHarley5 ай бұрын
Don't nibble with the edging shears, stand square-on to the edge and walk sideways with the shears upright to the edge and straight in front of your stance and take long full jaw cuts if you can. I would suggest getting a half moon edging/lawn cutter tool but they can be difficult to take a slither of lawn edge away, best to come in a few inches or so with a builder's string line as a guide for that perfect straight edge to be proud of. To me it's the edge that makes the job complete :)
@NoviceGardener5 ай бұрын
I agree, if the edge is poor, it ruins it! Cheers for the tips, I'll give that a go 👍🏻

its looking great! if you want to thin it out slightly, you can try dragging a rake against the stripe pattern before you cut which will raise any lateral growth, also giving you a more even cut.
@NoviceGardener5 ай бұрын
Not a bad idea, may be worth doing as so much of it is growing laterally

Allett advise the 10 blade cartridge for cutting below 20mm, however it looks like a decent finish you got there. Love the content - considering a Cambridge as a second mower myself (I have a battery Hayter Harrier 41). Not many videos of the Cambridge so far, so you’re leading the way.

Cheers 👍🏻 I was a bit apprehensive dropping the cutting height because of that reason, but so far so good. Not sure I can justify a £500 cartridge in my house yet! 😅

looks so good, great work. What type of grass is the new turf? Is it durable for a family lawn?
@NoviceGardener5 ай бұрын
It's bent/fescue. From what I've read, it's not as hard wearing as rye grass, but then again, it depends on the time of year. I'd say it would be absolutely fine 👍🏻

I couldn’t justify your new lawnmower (bumpy lawns and poor salary), but I could invest in a hayter. What model is yours, and if you had to do that all again, would you buy another lawn mower brand or would you have gone petrol? Many thank in advance and love the channel. My lawn looks mega thanks to your channel.
@NoviceGardener5 ай бұрын
Cheers 👍🏻 The Hayter is one of the best pieces of kit I own. Can’t fault it. It’s the Hayter Hawk 36 60V. Quite expensive still, but worth it in my opinion. I prefer to go electric more because of the convenience of using the battery, but also because of the noise as well. Not sure the neighbours would be too pleased if I had a petrol mower with how often I cut 🙈🤣

I'd maybe crescent moon near the gravel if you want another hand tool for it. The edges of the stripes I call it ridging it could be the blades are a mil or two less than the roller just overlap a little more. Looking boss!!!!!!!! ps Be interesting to see which battery sprayer you go for.

I use fiskars hand shears for all my edging. You have to bend down but the lawns not huge anyways. The grass cut with it always becomes denser than the rest.

Hi mate, love all the stuff you post! Im struggling with my new build gardens front & back is there any way of getting some tips from you maybe on private message to help out?
@NoviceGardener5 ай бұрын
Cheers mate 👍🏻 First thing I would do is dig up a few patches to see what's underneath. I replaced a lot of the soil in my back garden when we first renovated. I've never replaced the soil at the front of the house as it's clay, but there isn't much rubbish underneath. You could replace a lot of soil, but it would be a small fortune!

@@NoviceGardener Ok mate thank you what ive found mostly with it is some part of the grass is a nice green colour but other like patches have a really light green & yellow colour to it thats where am unsure with whats going on to be honest. I do think its needs scarifying an putting some seed to it but im just unsure if its the right time to be doing it. Thanks for the help mate 👍🏻
@Ray_ray115 ай бұрын
I found that when you get those lines is because the grass is too thick. You need to thin it out. When are you going to acid wash those walls?. You are spending a lot of time and money on your lawns, but those walls spoil the overall look.
@NoviceGardener5 ай бұрын
It doesn’t do it when the grass is dry, it was more because of it being wet that day. But I’ll be getting the scarified attachment when we get closer to autumn to use then. I don’t mind the wall, the plants will fill in over the next few years. Tried a few things in the past but not had much luck.

@@NoviceGardener have a go with the scarifier now, if its still lush keep it high and just skim into the top surface and as others have said it will pick up the sword and give cleanrer cut with a couple of angled or 90 degree passes as you can manage as allet say, the scarifier can and is best used light but regular i have stirling 51 and 800 m lawn this year and its good fun have done weedol weed killer a week ago so almost ready to cut down again and i was at 30mm and cutting 3-4 days at peek
