I genuinely think you should carry on, might be a biased audience in the comments but there have been plenty of youtubers that ground along for years only to suddenly catapult due to the way the algorithms work! as you say it's a hobby, a side hustle, balance it in with your life and enjoy it and if it goes full time that's great! if it means putting up one vid a month or less even so be it! you are definitely the first KZbin financial advisor I have actually trusted and not ended up rolling my eyes at, that's a niche people are interested in, brought me here! others will come!

Hi Tom. Just wanted to say your videos are great to watch; funny; informative; and your passion/enthusiasm for finance shines through every time. I have learnt so much from your videos and am surprised to hear you have only been doing KZbin for 2 years, as the quality is so good. You have a talent for making great KZbin videos and if it is something you personally enjoy doing then keep going. Ultimately, whatever you decide to do, I am sure the community will support your decision 100% and people will continue to watch/re-watch your videos for years to come.

It's a catch 22. You're not a lot here, because it doesn't pay enough, but it's not going to pay enough if you're not a lot here... I really enjoy your content and found you through the reno videos search, as this is what I'm currently interested in. I would say definitely put a bit more discipline on yourself with content creation (and frequency). Every Monday, for example, and stick to it! Expand on the content around money, ie. I'd like to learn more about mortgages and the type of customer (persona profile) banks love and hate. Maybe even an interview. I know it's all out there, probably done by someone else already, but I like YOU. And because of that, I'll watch you explaining it. Don't quit! :)

No affiliates and I don’t even have an email link for sponsorships. I’ll continue as long as I enjoy it and if I feel I’m adding value and helping people. In fact it’s the interaction with viewers comments which I find the most enjoyable part of the process. I hope you continue as long as you enjoy it. Your channel is excellent. All the best my friend.

As others have said, I think the value of your channel is in how you make finance accessible to all, in its true sense. First off, you speak fairly slowly and super clearly - which is a big plus for all of the non-native English speakers. You also are excellent at putting examples, icons and numbers on the screen which greatly help with different learning styles. Lastly, you add humour in an environment usually perceived as quite serious, if not altogether hostile..! You manage to do all this without ever sounding wishy-washy, but instead professional and reliable. I think you could definitely use your channel to promote your business, or even create a network of reliable financial advisors that you could refer, perhaps differentiated by area of expertise. I wish you all the best as yours has quickly become one of my favorite channels when it comes to educational content, and definitely hope you will keep this up!

We obviously all want you to keep making videos because we get something out of it, but for you personally, I guess it depends on how much you enjoy it. I would say you have easily shown enough growth and progress to give it another 12 months and see if you can push your earnings up, but only if you still enjoy it. A friend of mine is a full time KZbinr and it took her a good few years of being where you are before things really took off for her, so it would be a shame to call it quits after all the work you have put in so far, especially since you might not be too far away from a significant boost in numbers.

Ive been making youtube videos for over 5 years and still haven't achieved enough support to be monitised, so please take my advice with a pinch of salt. Creating videos, as you know, is really time consuming so a lot of hard work is needed, conistently and for a long time to make it big. However, I really think that you are in the early stages. You have all the ingredients that it takes. Your content is very thorough, which is rare and invaluable. Your videos are entertaining and educational. You have a popular niche. You are a natural presenter. Your videos are professional. There aren't many qualified UK financial advisers on here so you are really in a strong place with little competition. I truly believe, if you are consistent with your content, you will take off within the next year. But in short, yes, definately stick with it.

Stick at it Tom. You make finance humorous, informative and your presenting skills are better than most! Given it’s a subject many people dislike, you manage to keep my interest, and the only other person in the finance arena that can do that is Martin Lewis. You make the subject matter human and can connect with people in a way that makes them pay attention with everyday chit chat. You know your stuff and relate to people. Keep going, it will pay off in the end. You come across like the nice guy next door who wants to share a few nuggets of wisdom to those who need it, but didn’t know they needed it. Today is the first time I came across your channel and I’ve watched 4 videos. Whilst informative, and there’s some very useful anecdotal content to help people see things from a different angle, I would suggest watching your video length as it’s not something you could always watch in a TV ad break or in a spare 5 minute coffee break at work. Not entirely sure this might make any difference to your stats, but might help. If there’s significant content to explain, maybe do a two parter in shorter segments with a cliff hanger. That might increase your video views and keep interest and improve subscription rates. If it’s of any benefit, I watch longer videos for content for things like repairs to my car, fitting/maintaining DIY things, aviation stories, murder stories, or comedy sketches. Finance stuff I tend to want to see shorter stints with a chunk of bullet pointed info after basic principle content. Maybe link this back to a website to give examples (you could also affiliate market from there too). I tend to want to follow up with stuff on the web if it doesn’t make immediate sense. Your intros are great and outline what your content will explain, which I think helps massively. You also make things sound more simple for people to understand which is a good trust builder. I’m no specialist, but appreciate good informative content and hope you find this constructive. Your content is professional, well planned and comes across really well. Overall I think your sitting on a long term gold mine if you keep fine tuning.

If its growing.. keep going. Keep up the good work.. better things will come with growth and earnings. Thats been my experience.
Your videos are great, but based on the numbers it’s difficult to believe you’re going to be able to make this cover it’s own costs even within another 12-24 months. However what we don’t know (and you probably aren’t going to say, which is fair enough) is how many people have become customers of yours as a result of watching the channel. Include those in your calculation and the numbers I’m sure will look healthier - I know that “lost leader” model is how many other financial planners see and run their channels. Why not stick some links to your business in the descriptions and see how that goes?

Not really an easy time to offer financial tips is it? The majority of people have retracted so far up their own arse they can't even access the internet. Why don't you pivot into something else, offer money saving hacks, tips, get some click bait going? Who gives a shit? Get your BHP or NOS going baby!

From a personal point of view I hope you keep at it, I enjoy your uploads. From your point of view, do you enjoy it or is it purely about making money? Maybe is it both! If you are not enjoying what you do you know yourself what the answer is. If its about making cash you have two options stick it out or double down and make more content as the more you pump out the more people will watch and I believe you have a higher chance of getting more subs. Personally I hope you stick around but if its not making you happy or not economically viable .......
@ThatFinanceShow2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I started with the single goal of helping people and hoped that I could monetise it further down the line. I guess I'm still on track for that.

I love the videos Tom (and the channel) you’ve probably helped so many people over that time including myself. The money is increasing over time and increasing over the summer period when most people are out. Winter the views will increase 👍🏼 stick it out Tom.

This sounds about right - although the real money is in the sponsored content. Which I’m sure you’re getting offered. My approach was to keep my set up cheap, iPhone 7 for almost 18 months and £7 tripod stacked on stupid self help books which I read or forgot to read. Most of the videos were shot on sunlight… I respect your views on sponsorship.. but it’s not easy to grow the business without this.. my wife would kill me on buying lights and shit with family cash pot.. so I needed to take the sponsored content. I taken a break on making content because of the burn out.. my toddler and wife almost killed me.. plus the returns were similar to yours
@ThatFinanceShow2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if the right sponsors come my way - no problem. I am having some interesting stuff starting to flow through now.

Us subscribers don't subscribe for nothing. Plenty out there to choose from and we choose you. The subject of money and investments can be so dreary but you make it fun. All those subscribers who have yet to discover you. They're out there. They will come. Add to all that I like the way you talk. Looking forward to one day hearing you say "ginger sponge", preferably slowly. When it happens I'll clip it out and make it my ring tone. As they say in Blighty - Keep calm and carry on.

I've only just discovered this channel Tom but am really enjoying the content of the videos - and especially your humour! It's great you've shared how the KZbin payment structure works and I'm amazed the rewards are so low for the effort that goes into them. Personally, I believe it's good to follow our inner-compass of what feels right and trust this will deliver us to where we desire. So, if you're still enjoying making the videos, carry on doing that...and who knows...you may end up with your own TV show! Good luck whatever you decide.

Consider your demographic and the current market. The last 8 months have been tough on most people invested in investing. Combined with a now cost of living crisis in the UK. In my personal opinion, your potential audience and their enthusiasm has significantly reduced. Where do you want to be positioned when the next cycle hits and a wave of eager viewers are seeking financial guidance and entertainment? Keep going if you enjoy it and it doesn't come at a cost of anyone else's.

Hi Tom Recently found you via the T212 videos you made & now working my way through your Channel videos. Please keep up the excellent work, your content is entertaining to watch but more importantly seriously educational. Am learning so much from the knowledge you freely share. Your efforts & professionalism are greatly appreciated. Move over Martin Lewis, maybe one day you’ll have your own well deserved TV Show. Best wishes & thank you 👍

Thanks for sharing such an honest update. It seems a lot of time and effort for not much reward....yet. Your videos are really well produced, so informative and certainly appreciated by me. I've learnt a lot from them. I think you will start earning more as your reputation in the personal finance KZbin space grows. However, maybe you can somehow use this channel to grow your 'day job' business. I'm sure you can tie the two together and use the channel for self promotion. Perhaps offer online personal advice and subscription based services to your current clients? Either way, see this channel as an investment; let it organically grow and don't worry about these short term 'losses'. I'm sure you are learning and growing as a result of this channel and the fact you are showing a lot of younger people (not myself as I'm an old fart!) how to invest and look after their money should be reward in itself.

If you persevere with the way you are currently doing your videos, I predict and in my view this is a conservitive prediction, you will have at least 100,000 subscribers within the next 2 years and will continue to rise. If you are enjoying what you are doing keep going if you can!

Your videos are well put together and this one was fascinatingly insightful (thank you). Finance channels never get the big viewing numbers but as you said the clicks are more valuable. I’ve wondered about videoing actual advice. Doesn’t have to be real clients but a video series looking at different categories of clients that viewers can relate to might be interesting (or not). Titles like ‘How the rich pay less tax than you’ might be click baity but if you get a few advisers on and give them a drink they might talk about interesting cases (without breaking gdpr rules). Podcast style videos might be less time consuming to film and edit too
@ThatFinanceShow2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've often thought I need to bring some scenarios I've worked on into the content - good shout. Thanks for the advice.

I thoroughly enjoy your content and really hope you don't stop, but after seeing your return on investment if you jacked it in i wouldn't blame you. Nice inside info. I had t thought about the money side too much before. One question...do the number of likes add to your total? It doesn't sound like it as you didn't mention it.
@ThatFinanceShow2 жыл бұрын
No likes don't really help. It's thought though that the more likes a video has it helps the algorithm push it to more people so I guess it does help in a roundabout way.
@rabnesbit82872 жыл бұрын
Depends really why you started the channel. If you started it mainly as a platform to air your views, advice, share your experiences and knowledge to help others, and more importantly you enjoy doing it, then the money does not matter and it's just a bonus, and you thus continue doing it. If, however, you started it mainly because of the money, then still don't give up yet, pause and take stock, think of ways you can improve it to attract more views, and give it more time. Some ventures take many years before they become quite successful!
