Hey everyone back with Railroads Online! Today Hyce and I are going to deliver materials to the iron mine! Unfortunately the iron mine is up an extremely steep hill so we're going back to old school methods actually used by steam engines of this day!

Just in case someone sees this and hasn’t done this already, at 47:25 about when Hyce mentions the Uintah Railway, look it up. The memes about trains are real. The chaos is real. The entire thing is insane and real. Thank you Hyce for introducing us to this beautifully insane piece of history.

If tunnels are even implemented yet, you guys should just build a tunnel through a mountain a nd do a bunch of crazy loops to get to the coal mine. They need to add the ability to make curved tunnels.

The fascinating thing about this game is what routes different gamers use to connect the industries. I am limiting myself to 2.5% which less demanding on the engine but makes for a lot longer routes.

I just have to stop at 18:33 and when we look up the canyon and see for the first time what you built, and, well, I expected it but seeing it is amazing!! OMG Kan you are awesome dood, that is some amazing yet again trackwork up to the ore mine. Its not all that unrealistic actually, reminds me of the old Copper Canyon mine in Utah (see Dale's Toy Man Teevee for reference). Amazing, just amazing. Hyce, you're nailing it too man, question to you both, on the fun meter of 1 to 10, how much fun do you two have doin these, cause I have fun watching, thats fer sure, love the sprial bridge for the win...i swear i was laffing along with you guys especially when you took off the brakes I do want to ride on your excursion train when then give us coaches...pleeeeese

12:30 Britain's railways had a different approach to dealing with manpower shortages during WW2. The Southern railway, covering the areas south and west of London, mostly operated passenger services, but when the war broke out, they found they had a need for a utilitarian, workhorse freight locomotive that they could operate cheaply and efficiently. One of the methods they used to achieve this was the shape: the new design was shaped like a passenger coach so that it could use the automatic coach washers (like a car wash, but for trains), saving the manpower of cleaning.

What a great episode, love the work required to get it done, you guys fun to watch. I think you guys need to be issued 64 oz Big Gulp cups for the sample collection :) BTW, I have been having a horrible time with the stake cars derailing, even on straight, no grade track at slow speeds. They are the only cars I have noticed that do that, maybe a glitch with the stake cars.

My vote was for Switch backs because I think that would look quite unique as well. But I am not well versed in the railroad universe :D So I am all for this shenanigans ^^ Maybe kAN could soften out that first grade to the platou a bit tho? Seems like if he starts the grade earlier and make it steeper faster he could get away with a 5 degree incline maybe?

Cass Scenic Railroad climbs absurdly steep grades and uses a few interesting switchback ladders with literal switches. Pull the train past the switch then pushback uphill past the next switch then pull out and repeat as needed.

Kinda fascinating to see that the locomotives either can or can't pull the load. With a car or truck you shift down one (or more) gear(s) to trade speed for torque.

Instead of helper trains, you could have a siding for a spare train and then you have the fast train drop off the full cars and pick up the empties, and then have the big boys handle the train going up the 6.5% while the fast train can make a run back to the sawmill. (Assuming of course that you have enough people to run all that.)

Ok at 3:20 y'all were discussing the use of sand and tractive effort. Hyce said that sand does nothing to add to tractive effort but helps with adhesion on the track. So then why does he use sand at the museum when it's dry and only on a small round 1/4 mile track?

They should update the loading by making it possible to load 1 at a time, or 1 cars worth at a time automatically. For immersion/ balance maybe the player has to remain within a certain distance from the cranes. Otherwise it gets interrupted after the current load, and remembers how many are left to load after the player reactivates them.
