This is exactly what happens to me every time I try this technique. I feel the same way! Drop using devices 2-3 hours beforehand. Do early dinner. Take a warm bath. Wear socks if the weather allows. Keep the room cold. Do some meditation, like literally stare at the wall if you have to. Do some book reading to pass time beforehand and then off you go. If that doesn't help, go see a doctor. Goodluck. :)

What helped me a lot was to actually drain myself as much as possible during the day. My dumbed down version of this is if you spent your energy during the day, your body will force you to replenish it. Unless you have some diagnose that prevents you from getting a good nights sleep, there is no reason for your body to wake up at night if you depleted your energy reserves.

I've found a few things help (which don't conflict with Doctor K) One: being in tune with your REM cycles. These are generally about 3 hours. If you time your sleep correctly so it's in line with these, you'll be waking up naturally and significantly more refreshed. If you're breaking this cycle and trying to elect yourself in the middle of a cycle, then that's going to mess you up. Two: daylight. I decided to sleep in the car in the driveway for a few days, and this massively helped my circadian rhythm get back on track. Three: soft Vs harsh arousal. The high volume alarm clocks are something I hate. These make my mornings very, very bad. I used "daylight alarms" to start gradually lighting and brightening the room before I had to get up, with the light eventually very bright. Once the lights were bright enough, I almost never needed the actual audio alarms, except as a metronome for getting ready and out the door. Besides that, water, self-care, diet, no caffeine issues, and these basics also help.

Something that helped me was setting an alarm about 3 hours before I i need to wake up. It's an opportunity to hit the bathroom and also seems to reset my sleep pattern. If the alarm is set an hour or less before I need to get, up my anxiety about waking up keeps me awake but if it's more than that I'm able to go back to sleep and soundly at that. Makes actually waking up easier, but again this is just for me. It might not work for others.

If you're lucky like me and can reliably fall asleep within a certain amount of time you can set your alarm for the number of sleep cycles closest to the time you need to wake up. hard from a neuroscientist podcast (Huberman): Sunlight (for the eyes) in the morning wakes you up and make your sleep schedule shift earlier. any type of light at night (right before bed) will shift your sleep schedule later. however, getting sunlight throughout the day makes your eyes less sensitive to light at night (helping you not shift your sleep later)

I’ve tried this many time. The problem for me is that the more tired my head is, the harder it is for me to fall asleep. I get racing thoughts and sometimes adrenaline. And when I’m tired I cannot focus and cannot function, the whole day is unproductive which also makes me unable to do what I need to got to sleep. And it becomes a vicious cycle of one bad night of sleep causes the next and so on. The only way I tend to be able to get out of it is one night of really good sleep. No alarm and just wake up when my body is rested. Unfortunately that isn’t always possible.

I think a good tip is knowing how sleep cycles work cause waking up at different sleep cycles could play a role in how tired u be when waking up. Could be wrong tho but that's maybe why Dr k saying wake up earlier.

The fatigue hits me the minute I wake up. I usually feel like a truck has just run me over. I have an autoimmune disease so things are a bit harder than they used to be

Golden rule (that I forgot where I first heard it but it works) If you get even hours of sleep you'll wake up feeling more rested than if you get odd hours. You'll wake up better with 4 hrs of sleep more than 5 or 6 hrs of sleep instead of 7. It's also why you can wake up groggy after 9 or 11 hrs of sleep even though it's a lot, you'll still feel off. This works for me but, my problem now is more like "i wake up but don't leave the bed cuz of lack of motivation". I don't think i'm much depressive, maybe a bit, but everyday i wake up like 9am but don't leave the bed till hours later.

damn man this is my problem I just fucking hate being tired so I try to avoid it at all costs didn't even realize I did that. I worked a summer job that was really stressful to my body and my ability to pay attention (I have ADHD) and I'd get home and get stoned after every day. Cuz it was that, or feel tired for the evening and not be able to do any of the things I enjoy and actually want to do. fun thing is I thought getting stoned helped me sleep but really I'd stay up till 2 AM every night listening to music and watching videos.

Side note: it takes about 90 minutes per sleep cycle, so if you’re trying to wake up earlier, aim for the closest time in 90 minute intervals. Eg, sleep for 6 hours instead of 6 1/2, or 4 1/2 instead of 5. You’ll still wanna go to bed earlier the next night, but you’ll avoid that “I have just been resurrected from the dead and must now brush my teeth and head out the door,” type drama if you time your sleep properly.

I just ALWAYS get up at 7:30 am now. I have an alarm and I get up. And it's become easier because my kids won't see me in the morning if I don't get up. This has helped regulate my schedule... But I still stay up too late.

I usually always agree but not this time. I've struggled with this all my life. The sun comes up and I go to sleep. If I have a job I have to get up early for it's always been a struggle and at times have not been able to make it and have to pull over and just sleep in my car on the side of the road.. always feeling exhausted.

So true. Every sleep cycle is an hour and 30 mins. I set an alarm for an hour and 30 mins before the time I want to wake up and it works every time. Barley that tired either cuz I’m not interrupting the rem cycle I’m waking up right at the end of a cycle.

@@MD-mc9xw So then how do you make sure you’re not waking up in the middle of your sleep cycle?
@MD-mc9xw
@MD-mc9xw Жыл бұрын
@calc cycle times are generally consistent for individuals, its not gonna change every night for you. So find the hours of sleep in which you wake up in the light sleep stages and craft your schedule around that information. Not a doctor, this is just from studies ive half-read and from the book Why We Sleep

Many times I find myself filled with energy at night compared to the rest of the day. Actually, I feel the most tired right after lunch. The problem is that I deal with all the important things during the day, which is the time when I typically feel tired or without enough energy as I would want. Sometimes it just depends on how interesting my schedule feels to me.

"laughs in Delayed Phase Sleep Syndrome/Disorder" Only if I could reverse that roller coaster when it starts. It might delay my rotation for a short bit, but eventually it snowballs and takes me for a ride for about a week till I'm waking up within reasonable hours. It always feels like I'm fighting a weight pulling me forward when it starts.
