Worrying about 100,000 miles on a car that is still running well seems crazy. My car is at 206,000 and I expect to own it 3 more years. A $1000 repair or even 2 of them is a lot more manageable than car payments.

Told him we can walk to work so we'll wait til the cars (2010 and 2009) completely die to decide if we even want another one lol. He always sounds surprised, so I assume he gets a lot of people wanting a new one before the car's even in its last legs

Been divorced for 19 yrs and married another wonderful man 10 yrs ago and we are totally debt free including our mortgage. Denise, this was also me! My first husband had a lot of extreme trauma. None of those things made him happy in the long run. We even did marriage counseling and separated the accounts. Sadly, he committed suicide. It was a tragedy, but I found out about financial infidelity and other addictions besides alcohol. I wish things turned out different, but I can not tell you the PEACE you feel when you're secure. I have remarried and am expecting another baby girl. But it bothers me so much that they never talk about saving for closing costs when buying a home! I just can't wrap my head around these American women who go deeply in student loans in order to get a degree that they have no intention to use because all they want to become a stay at home mom. I mean: WTF is up with that? It must be some cultural difference I just can't understand
@Trustbutverify2651
@Trustbutverify2651 28 күн бұрын
What happens is they get the degree to do what they THINK they want to do and then those babies come along and they just can't allow anyone else to have them for most of the day. The EMOTIONS of a mother rule the HEAD of a professional. And the case of the chiro last call is particularly poignant b/c with that degree, the entirety of the profession is based on a person's keeping current with physical manipulation of a person's spine and other advice (such as functional medicine, etc.) It's just not a profession where someone can stay out to raise kids and then go back 10 years later after all the technique has been unused and lost.

It's a "plans change" thing. Don't plan on kids/plan on going back to work. And then for whatever reason (lack of childcare/it costs more than they make, emotions, mental health, physical issues, disabled child, philosophy/moral ideals change, whatever), they just never go back. A lot of the PhDs women tend to get don't exactly rake in money, so it's hard to pay off student loans while working before kids and the pay might not be worth returning to when childcare costs 2k

I was married to someone like Denise’s husband and we stayed married almost 20 yrs. That was 19 years ago. Today I’m remarried and we are totally debt free (thanks to financial peace university), including our home and that would have never occurred in my past marriage. I don’t know that much about him but I do know he’s still doing the same thing with his money. He never gave me a dime of child support and I just wrote it off. But if Denise’s husband isn’t willing to change she needs to divorce him. It’s may be tough in the beginning but she will be better off, otherwise, the stress of dealing with someone in her current situation will be detrimental to her future. I would probably be dead by now with the amount of stress this person brought into my life because he sounded just like Denise’s husband to a tee.

Kimberly 's story what about the ex. What is he suppose to live on? He is going to end up on the streets. Sometimes people just need to wait for their kids to get older before they do the divorce. He is also working his butt off to pay for her to stay home with their kids. Don't feel bad for her, feel bad for him.

You aren't ready to swap your old car for a new one until you make some educated guesses/assumptions and project a monthly upkeep cost for the old car over the next two or three years. Then compare that monthly upkeep cost of the old car to the cost of financing a newer vehicle. It will almost always pay to tolerate the old car.

Companies that place too many of their top executives on the same plane or in the same vehicle at the same time, may be placing their operations at risk. - the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE). Goes for cruise ships too Mr. Ramsey. 20 BofA executives were on the plane that landed on the Hudson River. 6 executives from Bruno's grocery chain in AL died in a plane crash in GA in 1991 5 executives with Conoco Inc died in a plane crash in 1991 7 scientists from Crop and Food Research died in a plane crash in 2003, etc... Dave isn't always right about houses going up in value and vehicles going down (at least to the degree he claims). My house is valued the same as it was when I purchased it in 2005. My truck is worth the same as it was when I purchased it in 2019. Houses are just boxes that need constant upkeep and repairs. Also, taxes and insurance must be constantly paid. It's often the land that goes up in value that helps offset the depreciating house.
@striperkid
@striperkid 28 күн бұрын
Your issue was, you purchased your home at the top of the market in 2005 before the housing crash of 2008. It took another anomaly (Covid and riots) to turn the housing market on it's head again. For the most part, housing does go up in value steadily.

@@striperkidadditionally, Dave pretty much has everyone depend on the stock market for retirement. If someone retires in a down market, they can be screwed. . And the market isn't really that old... anything could happen, especially with many countries no longer relying on The US dollar and our country being in record debt
@Nigriff
@Nigriff 28 күн бұрын
@@striperkidhistorically, gold has outperformed real estate as an investment, and gold requires no annual taxes, insurance, or repairs... yet Dave NEVER tells anyone to invest ANY money into gold. Why is that if he's all about "the math"?
@Nigriff
@Nigriff 28 күн бұрын
@@striperkidanother point that Dave makes that is not always a good idea... Buy a house "when you're ready" despite what the interest rate is while repeating "date the rate and marry the house". People should consider that refinancing involves having to dish out a lot of money on appraisal fees, refinancing fees, and if the house has depreciated, that can be an issue. Sometimes it seems like Dave is looking out for mortgage bankers, real estate agents, financial advisors, and insurance companies more than he is the actual consumer. This is also demonstrated by all the ads. His philosophy of getting out of debt is great, but beyond that, it's oversimplified and not fully explained.

Why recommend that grandparents transfer a farm into the name of their grandchild when they have already set up a family trust to achieve a step up in tax basis upon death? This is Fed Tax 101 class, and the primary reason families pass property to beneficiaries upon death via Will or Trust. A transfer of ownership prior to death could cost an extra several thousand in taxes due to no step up in cost basis. I simply can't believe what I'm hearing. A better approach would be to use the property, and simply limit investments until the property eventually transfers. My father owns a farm that my sister rents as a third party. The rent covers improvements and maintenance, as it would if they were not related. The arrangement works fine.
