Don't beat yourself up over it. 1938 is a great time and the jump to 36 isn't that big, once you understand what mechanics to use to your advantage.

One cool thing when you form the Empire is that you get access to naming templates modelled after real Roman Legions, and it even extends to motorised, marines, paratroopers and the like and gives you Latin names and Roman numerals for all of them. Pretty cool!

Hey, thanks for making this video! I discovered your channel after finding your reddit post on the same subject, and have been waiting for it! Question: What is your reasoning for suiciding paratroopers instead of simply tac, or even strat bombing to bring them to the peace conference?

Good question! During the first war, you don't get air superiority everywhere, since the Allies outnumber you in planes which makes damaging buildings as an annex condition a bit unreliable. I nevertheless find the idea quite tempting to do a no casualties campaign by utilizing strat bombing more excessively. Paratroopers are mostly a tool of convinience, but if you really want to, you can achieve the same results without using them.

Man you gave me a lot to think about, with the strat i use, I get done with roman empire in mid 1937 and i also don't use paratroopers(i don't feel good using them for some reason), some of the optimizations you used are absolutely insane and i would also try and insert them in and see if i can do it by end of 1936(no way in hell i can do it as fast you tho). Kudos mate, thanks for the tips.

Thank you! It's totally doable without paras. I use them only to keep a little bit of convinience. Main issue without them is capping France at an ideal time. Since the invasion of the UK does not rely on a big fleet (a single vessel is basically enough to get the invasions on their way), you can use the majority of your ships for additional invasions into Gibraltar (to get supply to the UK) and southern France. Alternatively, you can engage the British fleet early to make them return to port for repairs, allowing a brief window of opportunity to stage a naval invasion into northern France when they enter the war. I've done it! Following your guide, and messing up badly along the way, I finally managed to restore the Roman Empire to its old glory. Along the way, I accidentally capitulated the UK too early, meaning the Spanish Civil War fired and I had to fight the entirety of it alone, with constant Unplanned Offensive modifiers and sadness. Then I tagged some other countries to get them into the Allies, not realising that Sweden would take over faction leadership so I had to actually capitulate them which took way longer than expected. I took over faction leadership from Germany, but then resistance got so high that Czechoslovakia broke free, joined the Axis and called in Germany at the last month before I had taken down Sweden, meaning Germany took several of my needed states in the peace treaty - so finally I had to turn on them and take them out to be able to, at last and after four years, form Imperium Romanum. (Then I went for the US, decided to release some puppets to ease up on garrisons after eating Poland, and the Soviets promptly invaded Latvia and forced me into a two front war for which I was not ready. Seems that if you take out every country they border in Europe and the Middle East, they don't start any wars...) Next time I'll just follow your guide to the letter and it will save me a ton of pain and madness. :P

Wow, sounds like a fun campaign overall! =) Thanks for sharing! If you go early for the Soviets, it's all about mass divisions. Try to get one full army group of 20w and at least one army full of motorized for fast encirclements. If you're past 39 but not lategame, you should instead go for a 20w template of light tanks and motorized for the encirclements. That's at least how I'd try to do it, but I play very micro-heavy.

How much time do you lose if you justify on Yugo without the claim? I'm thinking you could annex/puppet Ethiopia and still get the 10% stability/WS without losing much time, would be better if you intended to continue past the speed run date.

I mention that somewhere in the video I think and in a more general sense at the end. It's really not worth sacrifycing the bonuses from the focus if you intend to continue playing. The time save is 20 days (10 instead of 30), plus free war goal on Greece. Just make sure that you end the first war before the Spanish civil war breaks out on the 17th July or you'll have to deal with multiple Spains.

@@m3an Free war goal on Greece is definitely something to consider. I do love runs where you have one goal in mind and it doesn't matter how fucked up your country is once you finish. Feels like a True Heir of Timur run where you end in the early 1500s with 400% overextension and bankruptcy looming. You could do it slow and stable but that's not the goal of the speedrun! All in all, incredibly impressive Roman Empire run. 10% stab/WS is nice but it's not crippling to miss out. Pretty trivial to turn Roman Empire into world conquest if your really wanted to, regardless of stability. More a matter of waiting for war justifications on South American nations.

Wow, that was amazing. One suggestion though. If you only care about bypassing the Triumph in Africa focus, why don't you just satellite Ethiopia in the peace deal. It will still let you bypass it, and you can get a few factories and units off of them.

This time around it's Italy defeating Germany's enemies for them. Really well done on the planning and execution of this strategy, with a time window that narrow so many steps and micro-steps have to be in place and every decision selected carefully. Amazing! I'll give it a shot just for fun, but aim for Before January 1st to be in a better place for wars against Germany, USSR, America and maybe even Japan/China. By the way, if you wanted to do an old world conquest of just Asian/European/African/Australian nations, which starting country would be quickest? I'm thinking USSR but haven't decided what kind of strategy I'd make.

It really comes down to the amount of cheeky strategies that you're willing to use in your campaign. Soviets are fun, but have a hard time in speedrunning due to the relatively long justification times from communism.

Thank you and great to hear! I mention a couple of things throughout the video and towards the end. Most importantly, I wouldn't skip Triumph in Africa for the stability and war support and would puppet UK and FRA in territories that aren't required for Roman Empire to gain control over their fleet later. I would also not do Luxembourg seperate, that's just to save a couple of days and leave the war running until Canada joins in voluntarily. And of course, before the last war ends, start justifying on a new target - ideally the US or a nation guaranteed by the US, since there's a chance the US might join the second war if it's still ongoing and they feel threatened. But they are so weak at that point that you can just overrun them coming from the Canadian border. If you want to go for the Soviets instead, I would drag Poland in the previous war to already have a direct border with them. It's also rather easy to take out Germany at that point, since you have such a long border and naval supremacy, that you can also just overwhelm them. The US is the most easy target to go for next, though.

MP Italy: ok, so. i need to slowly build up my industry and Army to join the Germans, improve my generals in Ethiopia and the Spanish civil War, while at the same time Rush for fighter 3s and tac 3s (is tactical bombers meta?) Improve the north Africa infrastructure and escort the German tanks during the transfer from Sicily, so I could take over Egypt and blockade the UK Navy from leaving. And mostly spam 20 with shovel units, also get Marine 14-4s to Naval invade the British islands in the Mediterranean... SP Italy: skydiving soldiers go brrrr. (good video by the way, here's a like)

Very good video and detailed explanation, just this one tip: you use a lot of keybind commands to do certain stuff (join fleets, armies, select etc.) which may not be known by the viewers, so you should take some seconds to explain the most complex ones

I have a strange idea: would there be any benefit to adapting TAS techniques to HoI4? Scripting inputs might be one thing, and certain programming languages like AutoHotKey might be worthwhile to look into

I like the idea and would love to play around with it, but full TAS runs would only work in situations where individual placement of enemy divisions doesn't matter much. Unfortunately most RTA runs have some form of RNG in exactly where enemy divisions are placed and moved to, making on-the-spot decisions necessary.

This may be more of a burden than of any value, but if you switch one of the units in Africa heading towards Harar in the beginning, it'll get there before that one division can reinforce it saving about 5 days

Very impressive run ! Did they change something about Britain calling instantly all theirs subjects? In my games they are all at war at the same time, meaning that I can’t raise the world tension to 100%. Am I doing something wrong?

That's been changed with the Barbarossa update, unfortunately. The overall strategy still works, but the end date is now a bit later, sometime in december most likely. Just make sure that you cap Spain before the civil war breaks out.
