A sprinkler system around the house. Especially during fire season. Run that bad boy every so often during fire season to keep everything around the house wet in case of fire. I wish I had one on my property a few years ago during the fires and unfortunately lost my house. Now I have one that during the fire season I I use every other day. Congrats on the property. If you haven’t done it then I strongly suggest you to do a survey of your property. The survey will identify all boundaries and corners of your property. Please buy some strong metal posts to pile down at all corners and use concrete bags to enforce the post base. I would also use orange paint to paint the posts for easily identifying in the future. That’s way, you always know what is belonged to your property. Please do it and you will thank me later.

Nice piece of property BUT As a former forest fire crew member in southern Oregon, PLEASE get a lot of advice on IF (or HOW) to burn that scrap wood. There are WAY too many overhanging conifers right there, and I'm guessing you get a lot of wind/breeze. Even in wet times, you can light your property on fire if there are enough flying cinders and overhead branches. Please get some professional advice first, cuz you'd probably be liable for any off-property damages you cause. Just be safe. I can't bail you out. I'm too old to dig fire trail any more. How are you with a hazel hoe or pulasky? BTW, I live in the woods too, and I love it. When it's Green...charcoal-grey? not so much. Enjoy the new place. It looks pretty amazing. Think about making a big clay-oven back on that electrical stub-line.... check you soil, cuz you might have the right kind of clay right there. All you need is a fine, flexible-when-wet clay, a little sand, and some straw (that dried grass around you, cut a couple sheaves of hay. There's a great book on how-to-build ovens, etc by Kiko Denzer (Earth Oven). There may be a side job in making those things and towing them to the rich folk in a 30-40 mile radius.

I lived in Redding California for a bit and I recommend clearing the trees away from your house to avoid wildfires it’s nice you have metal roofing

That is a really cool property! It reminds me of the 5 acres that we lived on in the 80s while growing up in Sooke, BC. Though it was wetter and fewer cedars, but more fir and hemlock trees. Best thing is having fruit trees, berries, and growing your own food!

I am so glad for you! California can be expensive. I'm helping my nephew get into a home in Ferndale. It's over a 100 years so getting home insurance is a problem - but from the age of the property. . I'm sure you're having that problem but from fire risk. Cali has to fix this this, if you have a loan the bank will require the insurance. Frankly, even if you cut down trees etc. close to your house, with the type of fire storms we have now, traveling sparks, nothing is guaranteed. Just be ready and enjoy what you have. Your home reminds me of the home Edward Weston lived in, in Big Sur in the 30's. He was a phenomenal photographer. He kept a journal, his "Day Books".

Highly recommend rain barrels!!! I have mine set up to my gutters, and then they all run self sustaining with an "on demand" pump connected to a solar panel and battery. So i can just water my yard and garden as needed! Totally "off grid" and super sustainable! Love watching both your channels and thank you for sharing your lives with us! Sprinklers are the answer for that wood and dry stuff. My grandparents live outside Leavenworth,WA and grandad always had his sprinklers going. When the biggest fire in history went thru the Icicle Creek canyon only their houses and property were soared. Literally bounced over it and we are talking 15 foot flames. Best advice I can give plus you will see all kinds of mushrooms year round. Awesome to see you guys planting some roots but still going to travel!!

Beautiful!! Shrooms!! Make sure you have a very large defensible space to protect your house and such from all the fires. All the brush and trees surrounding your beautiful areas need to be cut back and opened up to protect the things you want to improve. Dead wood also needs to be removed. I have seen the fires and how fast they can destroy tons of acres quickly. Will be following to see how things progress. Heres to new adventures!!

Pop-up restaurant on your property sounds awesome, you catch the fish, forage for greens and such, use veggies from your garden! You could have a great experience. Also, the mortgage, make sure you do the paperwork to have any extra payments go to PRINCIPAL! The banks love to apply it to your interest to keep your principal as high as possible but it's your choice where the money goes.

You know the very first thing I thought of when I saw that powered space down down by the river? A high class seculded event space for weddings, birthdays, etc. With Taku as head chef setting the menu using local and regional seasonal foods for the menu. Offering a menu of Japanese fused with worldly cooking based from his travels.
