Good and obvious idea, but: 1. You’re telegraphing 2. Problematic when you need to attack 3. Boxing teaches non-telegraphing.

"End the fight as quick as possible WITHOUT the guy knowing"..., I like that point. It's finished before it starts, the art of fighting without fighting. "Distance is your friend"....,haha..., your best buddy. Most professionals don't master distance control seriously because they are in a sport environment and application, so they have no worry of mortal maiming. Which is why they're always tied up, clinching, grappling, hugging, crashing into each other. Good point on stressing the uniqueness of real JKD. Like Tommy says over & over, JKD is not for sport, not for play. That's why there are realistic drills, no sparring..., sparring is playing...,unless you go all out to snap a knee in half or puncture an eye ball, or dislocate a jaw.

*Great video as always, Thomas! Just one correction. Master Wong who teaches Wing Chun and street self defense on KZbin shows a lot of these non telegraphic moves when someone moves in to attack but usually close range. Btw, please do a video to explain the details regarding using your hip when you use different kick types. I recall watching an old video on KZbin but I can't remember by who, who said you should use the hip in the last moment for more impact.*

Lots of other arts teach how not to telegraph. Telegraphing is a lot more than just winding up dramatically than what you see in a movie.

Not really. Most martial arts don’t cover half the stuff JKD does. Attack from a neutral position being just one of them.

First off, to say that all of these are techniques not used or taught in any other martial art is a bold faced lie. Almost all of these were basic kicks and punches used in most striking styles. Like seriously how do you have the gall to claim a basic front-leg teep-kick is unique to Jeet Kune Do?!? I watched your sparring video and you clearly have some skills. There's no need to try and mystify these techniques to try and sell yourself as some kind of master of secrets. The only moves in this that I've not seen in any other martial art style are the ones from the neutral position, and while these are interesting, they're also incredibly dangerous because they leave you off balance and wide open. The hook, or uppercut from the hip you show would indeed be very hard to react to, it's also a good way to get charged with assault if you throw it as a sucker-punch like you suggest. A much more practical approach to self defense would be to practice shifting to a proper stance while attempting to deescalate. Second, a kick isn't non-telegraphed just because you say "very non-telegraphed" after you throw it. Several of these kicks were telegraphed as hell!
@walterevans2118Ай бұрын
Firing shots of from the NEUTRAL stance in JKD would NOT throw you off balance if you see how Tommy throws it & how efficiently & fast he retracts the weapon....You need to look more closely at the body mechanics before you make statements like that. (Paul eating his dinner while typing)
@walterevans2118Ай бұрын
The striking styles don't pay as much attention to developing the body mechanics to the same level that Original JKD practitioners do....De-escalation IS the best option obviously. But going into a 'proper' stance would be infinitely more telegraphic than Neutral stance....& as Tommy said - 'Stance is a vehicle we move through'.
