Trance state. I love the way that the song is allowed to breathe and reach a melodic resolution without being forced. The arrangement is sheer genius. The song resonates with me deeply. RIP to my dear father Winston.❤

Im in A full and 100% agreement with you! Harri’s right, MJ didn’t have the age or experience to sing this as well as the Stylistics...not even close! Such great music, I miss it so much!

Agreed! Why could this music occur for us when it did, but then it’s faded from the producers minds. I can’t deal with what is generally produced now. RAP doesn’t do anything for me, except as a small part of a real song, with real music.

Their amazing falsetto and harmonies blended beautifully with the band. Amazing instruments, even a xylophone. 🎶🎶🎶A magical time in music that has disappeared. Great reaction Harri. Loved your groovin'.😊 Thanks Harri and Brooklyn Mike. Another winner and great memory. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

This is a Stylistics original! 💯 I believe it was written by Philadelphia songwriting legends Linda Creed and Thom Bell. This is definitely a Thom Bell arrangement.

The Stylistics are an American Philadelphia soul group from the 70's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Stop, Look, Listen", "You Are Everything", "Betcha By Golly, Wow", "I'm Stone In Love With You", "Break Up To Make Up", "You Make Me Feel Brand New", "Rockin' Roll Baby", "You'll Never Get To Heaven (If You Break My Heart)" etc.

It's really hard for me to believe, I actually met those guys, and even though they were all over the radio at that time, I was ..24 and I knew really nothing about them. To think they put up with me, even listened to some scratchy cassette tapes I had recorded songs I wrote. Just such awesome people. I'll never forget that.

My new neighbors were Black! I was a 13 year white kid. My worst enemies became my best friends for life. Fifty some odd years ago now, everytime I hear these old R&B tunes it takes me back. We'll never get this great music ever again.

The song was first recorded in 1971,at the Philadelphia studios under the late great Thom Bell(1943_2022).This was from their debut album entitled Stop,Look and Listen and they certainly made the music aficionados stop and listen. Is Russell Thompkins Jr. the greatest 1st tenor/falsetto in r&b/soul ballads? That is a very difficult question to answer but there I one thing that no one can dispute,he was certainly up there at top of the mountain with the other great first tenors.During the 1970s there was a deluge of great first tenors in these groups.Russell Thompkins in a you tube vid.said as much paying tribute to all of his fellow first tenors during that time. The falsetto is not new to male vocal groups, just go back to doo wop,you can even go back to the 1940s with the Ink Spots. The 1970s however, was the time when record producers placed a special emphasis on the falsetto lead.It became a trademark of all the r&b/soul groups with Russell Thompkins.Jr. at the zenith.

Marvelous my brother, you have now entered the Philadelphia studious in the year 1971.This was their debut album entitled Stop,Look and Listen. The lead voice is that of Russell Thonmpkins Jr.,what a melodious 1st tenor/falsetto,wouldn't you agree? The album was produced by the late great Thom Bell, who conducted the orchestra. The songs were written by Thom Bell and the late Linda Creed, though I don't think they wrote this one.The Stylistics in the 1970s. were part of the Sound of Philadelphia together with groups such as Blue Magic,Harold Melvin &The Blue Notes,The O Jays,Jay's, Delfonics just to name a few. These songs were always backed by rich orchestration along with great lyrical compositionsPhiladelphia was a worthy rival to Motown. You need to do some more reaction videos from this album, continue with You Are Everything and Stop,Look and Listen.Do this ASAP ,you will not be disappointed.I Look forward to your reaction.

This is their definitive statement of a song. Fantastic record! How is it that Bacharach and David didn't write this? I just listened to Michael Jackson's version (never knew of it before) and it pales in comparison to this Thom Bell masterpiece.

One of the very best bands of my youth! Could only hear them at night when the AM radio would skip off the atmosphere and into my little transistor hand held radio...the size of my young hand. Love these guys so much! It immediately takes me back to my upstairs bedroom on the far south coast of Ore. I’ve NEVER heard this done by anyone other than the Stylistics...at the time or at anytime since! No one could do better!
