Violet was a quiet girl, as was Jenny. Stevie was violent, as was Screech. History repeats.
@curmudgeon1933 Жыл бұрын
...also Violet's mother was silent in the face of her partner's abuse of Violet, and the generational cycle of abuser and abused continued. Who knows how far back this pattern went...or how much longer it would have gone, if Jenny and Screech hadn't broken the chain so tragically? Maybe, with the conversations around Ren's art, we can start really speaking honestly about many things which have historically been taboo, such as generational abuse, suicide, over-prescription of psyche meds, and the undue influence of money in politics.
@AversaS2 Жыл бұрын
Also, Screech and Jenny were twins. Both were 14, which means Jenny was a 14 year old sex worker. The entire thing is just so heartbreaking. And the dichotomy of such a tragic story told so beautifully. It’s pure genius.

I’m a 51 year-old Australian who served over half my life in the military as a high-ranking officer. I’ve seen shit that would make your blood run cold in my life having done three tours yet when I first seen this music video the tale of Violet and the way it ended. I ended up with tears in my eyes and a massive lump in my throat. This is probably due to the fact that I grew up in a family of multigenerational abuse and violence me being one of the worst victims of that circumstance being abused in every possible way by my parents. this song hit too close to Home for me showing you just how real RENs stories are. The simple fact is stuff like this happens every day all over the world and we just ignore it and get along with our lives as best we can pretending it doesn’t exist and REN is shining light on it for all of us to see clearly

Thank you for this reaction! It's one of the most versatile Ren's package, featuring so many amazing flavours... Ren is an amazing storyteller. Violet's take sucks you in so well, that you forget about orevious ones and the fact it must be somehow connected - what ends up with listener being caught offguard ❤ What's even more tragic... They were twins, right? 14 years old? Imagine what 14yo girl was doing late night in the streets, wearing high heels? 🙁

Hey, here at 19:59 while listening to you two talking, I just now noticed the horror memorabilia in background! A friend of mine's aging dad has a huge horror collection he's trying to find a buyer for, and judging by the memorabilia behind you maybe you know someone in that genre who might want it? Let me know. Anyway sorry for the interjection I just saw your stuff in the background and thought I'd mention. Ren's mad talented. Your journey so far has been interesting, but you should know that Ren has many (*many*) sides musically that aren't so serious, though still very cool. Some of my faves have an island feel ("Humble"): or a bluesy sound ("Ocean"); or a 90s hip-hop sound ("What You Want"); or an indie rock sound ("Hold On"). His faster raps tend to be more word or syllable play ("The Hunger" or "Losing It") and simple fun. His "Money Game" series is a different kind of storytelling and 🔥. Part 3 just came out and is amazing (if you do watch the series, be sure to watch the official lyric video for part 2) Great reaction. Thank you for being honest and vulnerable in your reactions.

The do transfer to just audio just as amazingly, as you've seen the videos you can concentrate on the music more so has another feeling almost. Off the top of my head - Losing It (retake) (this would be my first choice); Right Here Right now (retake); Down on the Beat; What You Want; Power Still all have powerful lyrics as you would expect Also, songs he's done with Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live) and How To Be Me (live) absolutely incredible songs and performances, in typical Ren one take formats Honestly I could go on and with you both react to his lyrics and videos, there isn't a single song you won't enjoy and appreciate

What the world is learning is that this is NOT a 'song'! It's a { Wholly Ren Style } multi-genre blend of Medieval Minstral / Troubadour [ Bardcore ] and modern spoken-word poetry Street Theatre. All created, composed, scripted, sung, acted, and narrated by this unique and mega-talented artist. BUT Ren is far MORE than simply an Artist, he's also a powerful Social Commentator, who's not afraid to tackle the hard topics. He wants us to not look away. To care. He is using all the skills at his disposal to say; "We know why this stuff is happening - and keeps happening. We need to do more to stop it!"
