Think of doing cardio as earning money and think pacing as spending money with a budget and a plan. Both are equally important.

This is 100% true, I used to run miles and sprint and swim all the time when I first started boxing and I would still gas, but it's not until I went out to another gym sparring that I realised it was more nervous energy burning than fitness, so I paced my self and stayed calm and havnt gassed out in my last 15+ spars and I spar minimum 6 rounds 👍👍

Something even more important then Cardio and Pace is proper footwork and training. Besides that you are 100% correct pace is very important as well especially as you age and get older.
@DoomRater7 жыл бұрын
Training pace more than cardio was something I learned at Noe's gym. We did 5 minutes rounds with 45 seconds rest but we always ALWAYS tried to finish strong and the only way to do that was to scale back your speed and energy usage so you could do your last action as powerfully as your first, if not more so.
@mg14683 жыл бұрын
Had the same problem. I was running twice a day and then at my boxing gym 4-5 times a week aswell and pushing myself as hard as you could. Was at Peak fitness don’t think I could’ve been fitter if I wanted to be, went into my 1st amateur fight and put 110% into round 1. By round 2 I was fatigued and not even able to keep my hands up. Pacing yourself is so so important

I can´t believe you made this video exactly today! :O What a coincidence, I went to a 10Km race this morning and didn´t pace myself too well, then when I got tired I was like: "shit, and I still have 6km left to go o-O " So a lot of people who were actually fatty and I had previously left behind left ME behind and had a bit of a hard time catching up again. It was surprising for me how much strategy, in this case, pacing one self, was WAY more important in a race than just being in good shape. Strategy beats shape.

in my opinion the 4 important things that should instinctively pop in your mind in a possible street fight or a surprise confrontation is 1. size of your opponent (does not mean the size of one individual who seems to be confronting you but the size of the group if he's with anyone because if u get lured into a fight with someone who has friends there with him they will eventually gang up on you) 2. the environment (fight or flee) or to put an object between you or a shelter or escape route 3. weapon (any thing you can grab on that u think can do damage or distraction) and 4. HELP any one that could help you or call someone to help ....at least by calling someones attention u have a potential witness.............then fight like your life depended on it....this the time u start using your skills ...pacing and hitting etc.
@edwardstanulevich17647 жыл бұрын
Look at the best professional sports fighters. They always pace themselves in the first half of the bout and make their opponent work. When their opponent is running low on gas, they press hard for the win. Pacing makes or breaks a fight!

Hey Shane. I just had a video request; I do understand you may have touched on it slightly but I would like a very detailed video on cardio. (Example: Best exercises, How long to do the cardio exercises, how far in distance I should achieve per day, how often I should do the cardio exercises, what conditions etc...) I really dislike cardio so I don't run, but I understand without doing cardio, I won't get very far in martial arts. My technique is alright but it's my fitness that limits my ability. Nice videos by the way 👌

All well and good, as long as your opponent allows it. While for sure you are not going to go 100% non stop, but training so you can keep the pressure on non stop at the highest intensity YOU can maintain without gassing. This is the far better approach for victory over those that are coasting, or are using on off strategy..So no, pacing is only more important than conditioning for the weak fighter...just go ask Dan Gable.

Hi Shane can you do a video on how to fight someone who is pretty good at throwing kicks like someone who is skilled in taekwondo.
@JourneyToTheCage7 жыл бұрын
Red_ Clouds try to close distance. Practice wrestling and BJJ to neutralise the kicking power and even just practice body shots, hooks, uppercuts, knees and elbows. Kicking relies on distance to work, so try and restrict the space and you will counter that strength.

Hey Shane, I’ve been training Muay Thai for about five and a half months now and I do really well during sparring with people that have more experience than me and i do pretty good sparring against my coach even. However, my coach clinches me a lot when I spar with him and I just don’t know really what to do in the clinch. I try to swim in and clinch him but it’s hard with the gloves, basically the only thing I am able to do is the move “china wall” to escape it. I know what I should be doing in the clinch but can’t seem to apply it during sparring, could you give some tips or make a video showing some effective things to do when clinched? Thanks man, love the videos.
