Another nice tip: do not clench your fist. It may sound dumb, yeah, but when you close your fist tightly, then all the muscles in your arm tighten, which stabilizes your bones and joints, but at the same time it slows you down a bit, or at least makes your punches consume more energy. Practice throwing punches with loosen up hands, and after some time try to close your fist just a second before it connects to the target. It definitely helps with speed.

Shane id like to say i really like your channel, you create very good content and its always entertaining and informative so thank you. I have more recently started to explore my interests in boxing. Everything about. The foot work, the head movement, the determination to show your opponent who is going to walk away from the fight not only victorious but proud. Even more i love the way boxers train. Its very intense but bassic at the same time, something like jumping rope looks so smooth with such finesse. As a former athlete in highschool i surprisingly do not represent one considering the short amount of time its been. I struggle to keep to a routine and tend to make poor eating choices. These are things id like to change in my life and have been trying to stay aware of on a daily basis. I would love to learn a workout routine that somebody as myself can implent to their life and push themselves. Boxing is such an interesting sport from its stance to techniques, but in reality im not looking to become a boxer. Im trying to spark my interest and desire to work out and change myself into a physically satisfied person.I believe a good boxing workout and proper eating habits will get me where i wanna be. Once again shane very great channel and we appreciate the effort that you put into your videos.

As a beginner in Muay Thai, as soon as I adopted the rhythmic "marching" motion that they teach in the TBA curriculum, I started flowing better and defending myself more easily in sparring. Just those little motions are huge for keeping yourself loose and responsive.
@Fim2211 ай бұрын
what is that?
@Enthymene10 ай бұрын
@@Fim22 "TBA" is the conventional acronym for the "Thai Boxing Association" of the United States. They have a curriculum and grading standards set down by Ajarn Chai. If you mean the marching motion, it's the kind of foot-to-foot-shifting and/or foot-tapping you see from Muay Thai practitioners. In my own gym at least, there isn't a super-strict rhythm or motion we do, but it's emphasized that you SHOULD always be moving.

Very helpful! Thanks! My coach is always telling me to relax my shoulders
@knuckle-sandwichmma6816 жыл бұрын
The way I got myself keep especially my upperbody loose is do shadow uppercuts, try to keep your shoulders loose. if you have loose shoulders you can fire off still very easily, it makes you do the whole body movement and it does the snap which makes the punch even harder. u can even do it with straight punches and hooks but hooks need a lot more whole body movement and you can gas out very quickly. Uppercuts are great. best way to improve certain strikes is repeat them over and over again and its never bad to improve your uppercuts especially when its kind of punch that you can do even in a mile walk. you will feel it in your shoulders but its a good thing to me at least. when you walk hit the uppercut always with you opposite leg being in the front which means: right leg forward + left uppercut, left leg forward + right uppercut

It’s best to just block while moving, the “while moving” part is crucial. Or you can slip and go for a counter punch, the worst thing you can do is stand still and just guard, this is because your opponent will just wail on you because you are only guarding. Also you are a still target, basically don’t be a punching bag
@anthonysiu60106 жыл бұрын
Hard counters to discourage him entering the in-fight range, in order to throw long bursts of punches they need to square up their stance which means they are open for knee strike to the body or a cross counter like mayweather he remains calm when opponents swarm him

*I do Kung fu,* I focused too much in making the appearance or *form* of the delivery of my punches look good and "proper" as my coach said that I forgot that the most important thing is simply "To hit and not get hit". I felt that I was held back. My preferred stance is sort of a Philly Shell stance, a stance which which makes my hands go free to wander around if possible. I'm not used to the 2 hands raised stance and Everytime I punched in that stance I felt uncomfortable and held back, but I still did it nontheless just so that I would follow what my coach told me to do.

I'm not so sure whether being too stiff or too tense is the problem ? I'm actually quite relaxed while throwing punches, but my coach kept telling me I'm not relaxed enough. I'm not sure why is that, is it because I'm more muscular built, So it's difficult to tell the difference ? Or something else? Does this problem go away on its own eventually ? Or does it stick with ya , even after training for years ?

Hey Shane awesome videos. I’ve got a question, I broke my wrist twice in the past and while hitting the heavy bag for my first time, my bones in between my wrist and fingers hurt whenever I punch. I know it’s not because it’s my first time because it’s not the muscle, it’s the bone. I’m positive I’m hitting the bag right. Does that have to do with my broken wrist in the past? How can I fix that pain and get back to the heavy bag. Thanks

Yo Shane! I was wondering, is there a defense when someone catches your roundhouse kick or teep? Great video Shane!
@jayroyalmc49613 жыл бұрын
Yes! Turn your knee upward (if it's not already if you're doing the front "teep") and violently pull your knee to your chest as you would naturally on a retraction. So step by step: 1) Kick is thrown; caught 2) Turn the knee upward 3) Pull the knee to the chest violently and quickly 4) Reset However, you can also use the caught roundhouse as a pushing knee. Just turn the knee upward as stated above then violently thrust your hips forward making sure to keep your head over your rear leg for balance, then retract it just as violently as your push. You can also use your arm as a base on the shoulder and wedge for added protection and balance. I'm no award winning coach, I may also be missing a few minor technical details so I'd make sure to run this by your coach and get his opinion. Remember, when in doubt just ask your coach. If you don't have one, there's tons of them online that would break it down for you. I hope this helps!
