Hey I was the other lucky guy, I bought the 20bore version that was in the same Holts auction. As a massive Winchester fan I couldn’t resist it. It’s brilliant, I’ve more guns than fingers and toes but I keep reaching for this one. It’s even won a sxs comp with me behind it so it must be good!

Another interesting video. I have had a Winchester 101 with 26 inch barrels with IMP and MOD chokes that I bought for shooting Skeet a long time ago. I have used it for driven pheasants and partridges, duck, rough shooting and pigeon shooting. It is not great on long crossing targets, but what the heck, it's original and fun. My advice is to leave your gun as it is and enjoy it for what it is.

The nicest gun I ever came across as a sleeper jewel was a side by side .410 from an outfit called F.I.E. from Brazil. Modified & full, I could not get over how tight & well made it was. The wood was gorgeous.

Thanks for the video. It looks like it borrowed elements from several good designs. What I see most in it is Winchester model 21. Take a look at several photos of 21 barrels, frames, stock/forend shapes, lockup, vent rib, and such. The black metal piece in the barrels where it slots into the frame is a positive barrel stop if I'm not mistaken. Probably the 21 models you would want to see photos of would be the vent rib Trap models versus the solid rib guns. I have 2 21's and the stock finish on each one is different. I have one that was built on the eve of WW-2 that has the standard Winchester gloss finish of the day. My other one has an oil finish. Both are very nice but the oil finish fits with the gun better I think. One of the neat things about the 21 is that it was made to be rebuilt by replacing worn out parts with oversize factory parts. There are if I remember correctly 4 sizes of joint roll, and 2 or 3 sizes of locking bolt.

Do it ! A 30mm butt pad & super extended chokes - all reversible. An oil finish on the stock is always good. What a strange hybrid of ideas - so glad it shoots ! How about a follow up video once you've made some changes ?? Maybe TGS gun Mk.II .... 😲 !??

I used to do a lot of duck hunting over decoys. Convention would suggest a long barreled gun. On a whim, I started favoring 26" over & unders, or a 26" Remington 1100. Plenty of heft, but a bit quicker on the unexpected bird that sneaks up on you. Don't underestimate 26" tubes. Great review, great video.

Fun video. I have owned a few Classic Doubles O/U and they are a great guns. My only complaint with the 201 is the 26” barrels. You are correct whit your statement about the screw in chokes. There were not many made. Most had fixed chokes. You are a tall guy. My opinion would be trick it out to suit your shooting needs. You don’t have much money in it and they are fun to shoot. 👍 Regards

I have always loved a side by side more than any other gun but waited most of my life to own one! That being said I finally bought a cheap American double, to which I admired the more I looked at it! I bought a CZ Bobwhite for a hunt and liked it immensely, but kind of longed for a 16 bore; I came across an old Savage Fox 16 bore and fell head over heals! No it’s not an original Fox and no it’s not an expensive gun, but I got it at a steal, and it suits me! I know the deal with over under’s but I swear I’d rather miss with a SXS than shoot an O/U, there is nothing classier, or more appealing to me than a classic SXS!

I always heard the plant was closed and tore down for the Japanese to build a golf course. Seems in the 80's the Japanese developed quite a fondness for the sport. Anyway, Classic Doubles made some nice guns, there is a following of people who collect them. A few months ago on Guns International there was a 16 gauge Model 201 listed. It had been a prototype. The most famous of the CD's was the sporter. Back in the 80's sporting clays was just getting started. After they closed and sometime in the 90's, a company here in the US started making a copy of the sporter. It was Connecticut Valley Classics, I was one who bought one of the early models. Shot it for a quite a while. What happened here in the US was in the early 90's a group called the Vintagers started a trend of dressing up in the English tradition and shooting English side by sides. That took off big time and for at least 15 to 20 years people were buying everything English. And yes JC at big prices. But alas now all those guys that could afford these guns are getting old and have sold off all their English Best guns. The new generation does not care for a Purdey or Boss. ( Sporting Clays trivia, the first SC National was in Texas and the guy who won it was shooting a Browning Hump Back auto

Next time you visit the USA Make sure to try out a CZ USA Sharp Tail Target. It's a Side by Side 12 gauge fitted out so that it shoots like a Beretta 686. This means the stock has a modern comb height and a pistol grip quite similar to that on a 686 Sporting. Note, it's an extractor gun but that is not a problem for me because I load my own shells. As for Specs, raised Target Rib with a mid bead , 30 inch multi choke barrels, select able single trigger and a color case hardened action. Also noteworthy on my ex salesman's sample the wood is quite pretty not EELL grade but definitely a EL grade stock. Also worth noting is that CZ insists on top quality from their Turkish suppliers so the quality is a match for Yildiz or Beretta.
