I heard a theory which patches up the Hyrule historia which is that instead of the fallen timeline being a what if scenario the three timelines split when ganon transforms as the combined triforce grants the wishes of the wielders, ganon wishes to slay Zelda and link = fallen timeline, link wishes to slay ganon = adult timeline and zelda wishes this never happened = child timeline but I haven’t seen what you have said yet and is probably very plausible

Someone made the arguement that technically Minish Cap has a bad ending if you don't reach Zelda fast enough in the final temple which spawns the third timeline and is its own thing.

I personally think similar, but with Link instead wishing to continue his adventures, and Zelda wishing that Link could go back to have a second chance to live his missing years. Buuuut, yeah, similar belief that it's a split timeline due to the Triforce wishgranting... namely, granting CONFLICTING wishes, and thus having to undo the usual time travel capabilities in the series. Namely.... time travel through weaker powers, like in Oracle of Time and the time gate in Skyward Sword, it does so that remains in a single timeline. But... time travel by higher powers? Like the Triforce in Ocarina of Time and Zelda's inheritted Hylia power from Age of Calamity? The use of these higher power things creates actual timelines. Though, for this to be so, then the time gate in Skyward Sword would have to be an artificial creation, likely created by the Sheikah in attempt to replicate the magics of Hylia. @@AbsurdZeldaTheories

I think that the timelines loop so in the final battle between Link and Ganondorf in oot link actually dies then the downfall timeline plays out then it somehow goes into the adult or child timeline and after that it converges where botw and totk happens

It always seemed like Ordon being a Province, is something akin to how Canada used to be part of the United Kingdom (as was Austrailia) and the "states" that those countries were divided into were Provinces, a colony under Hyrule but not of Hyrule. Essentially, an expansion currently inhabited by farmers and ranchers who produce goods and perform services for the motherland/homeland.

I think that the so-called “fallen timeline” isn’t the result of the Ocarina of Time at all but the result of a timeline split from the end of Skyward Sword. One where it was agreed to keep the Triforce a secret and one where it wasn’t. That the wars fought over it, mentioned at the start of Link to the Past, took place the same time that the Hyrule Civil War would have taken place in the other timeline.

I love the idea of 1 line. My time line is Ss Oot Twilight Ww Ph Train I always felt because ww link left the master sword in Ganondorf when the sea took him it ment there was no long a master sword. So by the time the train game happens theyve established a new hyrule to live at. Making a new blade because no matter where the blood line of the goddess goes the curse follows. Allowing a new champion to rise and once again defeat an age old tail. I love that in yours then never leave and get og hyrule back. I never really thought if adding botw to my timeline untill now lol

I feel like Zelda Lore's timeline is still the most solid one I've seen. It's mostly the same as the official one but it changes the placement of Four Sword Adventure flips back the Oracle games and Link's Awakening to where they're supposed to be and puts the "downfall timeline" to after Minish Cap instead of after Ocarina of Time.

Instead of being the descendants of the Loftwing and Occa, I like the idea that the Minish are the descendants of the Korok. Like the Korok, the Minish can't be seen by most people, they can be found all over Hyrule, and the first place you meet them, and the place with the most minish iirc is the Minish Woods, which could very well just be the Lost Woods where the Kokri first came from.

The difference between OoT and SS time travel is that OoT undoes everything you did by being sent back to when you met Zelda. They are 2 different types of time travel, OoT essentially creates 2 versions of Link, SS doesn't. It's been a while since I've played SS so I could be forgetting something.

I'm with you in that I think the official timeline is wrong. But I do hold to most of it, and I've borrowed various fan theories over the years to build my own concept. I view the Zelda planet as a disk with lands on either side. Hyrule and Lorule. Both worlds are 3-tiered-Sacred Realm, Surface, and Twilight Realm. These are spiritual planes, not necessarily physical layers. Separating them is an impregnable rocky divide. In Lorule, there are 3 Gods-Demise, Majora, and Malladus. The kingdom of Lorule is at war with Ikana over their Triforce, so Lorule destroys it. The mages who could produce magical masks all fled west to Ikana and, eventually, Clock Town. Lorule kept up ceremonial masks, but not magic ones. The Gods of Lorule were angry and wanted a new Triforce, so they broke through the center of the world to enter Hyrule, causing the cracks that Ravio and Yuga would eventually use to cross over far in the future. (However, Majora was restrained by the magic wielders of Ikana who bound him to a mask.) Malladus emerged in “New Hyrule”, and Demise emerged in the Hyrule we know. Demise also brought some Loruleans with him; most of them were sealed in the Twilight Realm, but some of them escaped deep into the desert and formed a cult worshiping Demise. After Demise was defeated, they created a Trident from the shards of Ghirahim's blade form and hid it in their pyramid temple. Then you get _The Minish Cap_ and _Four Swords._ After FS, a young Gerudo prince meets the cult of Demise in the desert, and he steals their Trident, becoming possessed by Demise's spirit. He releases Vaati again to cover his tracks. With the power of Demise, he was transformed into Ganon and attacked Hyrule. Using the power of the Four Sword, Linked stopped him and sealed him away. But the result of this conflict led to Hyrule Kingdom going to war against the other tribes-this is the Civil War predating _Ocarina of Time._ Hyrule wanted to capture the Spiritual Stones to have total control of the Sacred Realm to prevent Ganon from attacking again. (At this time, Hyrule was unaware that Ganon was the Gerudo prince.) Ganon was freed in the chaos, and he returned as a man to his people. Since they were leaderless for so long, they made him their king, and he went to Hyrule to broker peace. But of course, the war set off the chain of events leading to OoT. Link went out to gather the Spiritual Stones himself, and he won the trust of the other races. But he did not realize that he was merely Ganondorf's puppet. The moment he withdrew the Master Sword and opened the gateway to the Sacred Realm, Ganondorf ambushed him and killed him. Then the Sages, who were watching spiritually, sealed Ganondorf within the Sacred Realm so he couldn't cause damage to Hyrule. After many generations, one of the cult of Demise, Aganhim, postured himself as a priest for the people of Hyrule. Then he set about releasing the hold of the Sages to free Ganondorf, who was in full possession of the Triforce and at his greatest power. ALttP!Link defeated Ganon and claimed the Triforce, wishing to undo Ganon's destruction. This created the first timeline split going all the way back to OoT. In this new split, the Master Sword wrapped Link in a cocoon of protection to prevent Ganondorf from killing him. This is the version of events leading to the CT and AT. After these events, my timeline follows _Hyrule Historia_ (except that FSA predates OoT). The reason I do this is because FSA tells a much more compelling version of the Sealing War-something which others have pointed out in the past. OoT doesn't really cover those details, despite supposedly being the direct prequel to ALttP. So in my version, FSA!Ganondorf is just a slightly younger version of OoT!Ganondorf. They are the same person. And since ALttP exists on the original timeline (where OoT!Link is killed after opening the door for Ganondorf), the only thing people remember in ALttP's world is a condensed history that merges FSA and OoT into one brief episode. Another benefit of this is it eliminates Vaati entirely before the split in OoT. The other thing I implement is Game Theory's ideal that _Hyrule Warriors_ merges the three timeline branches. It follows the events of _Twilight Princess_ by some unknown length of time, but it opens borders in the multiverse to bring in elements from the other two timelines. (The exact events aren't necessarily canon, but the essence of the story is. I also consider the Adventure Maps to be loose canon, since they bring in even more areas from the other timelines.) Then finally we get to _Age of Calamity_ and _Breath of the Wild._ Like in my version of FSA and OoT, where the original ending of OoT has Link dying as a child in the Temple of Time, I see _Breath of the Wild_ as a “Downfall Timeline” version of events. The Champions die, Link falls in combat, and Zelda's power caused a rift by awakening Terrako. Terrako thought it was going back to the beginning of events, but it actually split the timeline, leading to AoC. The advanced warning it brought allowed Link et al. to prepare and stand a chance against Calamity Ganon. And finally, in the new Downfall Timeline, Link awakens after 100 years of restorative hibernation to combat Calamity Ganon again.

As much as I am looking forward to playing _Tears of the Kingdom_ (my hype level is off the charts), my secret hope is they'll make a second edition to _Age of Calamity_ (basically a full game but as DLC and not a new cartridge) which parallels TotK but in the AoC timeline. After all, Ganondorf is still out there. The benefit for doing it this way is they could just add additional stages and characters as necessary, and maybe use the TotK Champions as new skins for the characters in the base game. In Adventure Mode, you could play any stage from AoC or the DLC expansion using any character.

I'm not the most well versed in zelda lore but *slight spoiler for totk but nothing past characters met in the first cutscene and first few minutes of the tutorial* the existence of both Gannondorf and Rauru(as a zonai) seem to contradict the idea to oot being Gannondorf's rise to power in my eyes

And I don't know how the Gerudo could be the Twili if there's still Gerudo after TP. I like to think that Termina is actually Lowrule, the Twilight Realm, and possibly the place Link's Awakening takes place, just at different times

I subscribe to the theory that BOTW and TOTK are the only two games which "actually happened", with each other game being a sort of Chinese whispers style corruption of that story told by people from the future who half remember the events of what happened (or at least claim to) and are telling it to their grandkids who tell to their grandkids, with certain details being focused on more than others. For example, someone who saw Link sailing on a boat with a dragon head during the events of TOTK (the dragon head is one of the new flamethrower thingies) came up with the story of Windwaker and its subsequent games or maybe someone else focused on the sky islands that appeared during that game and came up with Skyward Sword. Make sense? I hope so, I had fun writing it out. Loved the video and your timeline!

My standard rule is this; If it appears in the games themselves(and/or in the official game guide that came with the game itself), then it is Canon. If it doesn't appear in the games/official game guide that came with it, then it isnt officially Canon. Same rule for any Official DLC/Add-ons.

Personally I believe that the generally accepted timeline pre BOTW where it splits into 3 in oot is still cannon but the convergence of timelines from the original Hyrule warriors is also cannon and explains why BOTW has references to all 3

I know it’s less fun, but my version of the timeline doesn’t have a definitive placement for a lot of the games simply because Nintendo wasn’t trying to build a timeline at first. I also agree with Ratatoskr that the downfall timeless isn’t a real timeline. It’s a theoretical parallel universe that doesn’t actually happen as a consequence of time travel in Ocarina of Time. That said here’s my timeline. PRE-SPLIT 1. Skyward Sword 2. Ocarina of Time CHILD TIMELINE 1. Majora’s Mask 2. Twilight Princess ADULT TIMELINE 1. Wind Waker 2. Phantom Hourglass 3. Spirit Tracks POST ERA OF MYTH 1. Breath of the Wild 2. Tears of the Kingdom People usually use enemy types, geography or Ganon’s appearance as concrete evidence for the rest of the games but I don’t buy it, because I’m really not fun at parties.

Just now watching this video as I've recently discovered your channel a couple days ago and frankly I still believe in the timeline split but I believe it reunited at some point in some way. You've ever heard of a dragon head timeline break from elder scrolls then that's what I mean. I believe breath of the wild and tears the kingdom somehow connects all three timelines back into one timeline but it's kind of hard to explain so I would recommend you Google search a dragon break timeline as elder scrolls describes it.

I'm personally interested in coming up with a timeline that tries to chronical the 'history' behind the legends. Basically taking an anthropological and comparative mythical approach to try to order the events and culture these legends are trying to represent rather than order the games themselves. Not that I'm saying I don't like the attempts to order the games. Goodness, I use to be obsessed with Doctor Who - I fully appreciate the appeal of wibbly wobbly canony wanony - and a large part of the appeal of LoZ to me is that it's very open to holding multiple interpretations of it at once. I quite like the official order and I quite like this order as well and I would be quite happy to follow them both. But I also like actual history and mythology and anthropology and the challenge of taking this series from this approach sounds like fun to me.

The one thing, which I think could have fit nicely with a couple of tweaks, has to do with the four sword. I think they should have made that a separate timeline, one that was split off due to timeline shenanigans in Skyward Sword. When Link goes back to the age of Hylia and defeats Demise, there are technically two Goddess Sword variants: the Master Sword, and the Goddess Sword that is still up in the sky (having just been sent up there by Hylia). They should have split off the timeline here, and had the sky people (called the Picori in the Minish Cap) bring the Goddess Sword down to the people of Hyrule, which would become known as the Picori Blade). This would explain the similar evil sealing powers of each blade, while explaining their differences via their different power up methods.

My main thing with the Adult Timeline of Ocarina being wiped out is this: why did we bother sealing Ganon in the future if we could just go back in time and overwrite it so easily? Ganondorf vowing to break out one day and cursing Link, Zelda, and the Sages is effectively meaningless cause he doesn’t exist anymore.

I certainly don't think the Fallen Hero timeline exists. If Ganon were to have won at the end of Ocarina of Time, I think it's more likely that Zelda and the Sages would not be able to fight back, Hyrule would be destroyed beyond repair, the Hylia bloodline would end, and the timeline overall would just end. You did a great job outlining a smoother transition between the N64 games and ALttP! I think I'd have to watch your Picori Blade = Master Sword video before I can say I agree with Minish Cap being after BotW. Either way, I did enjoy this video!

I'm not sure we know enough about how the triforce works and how possession of it operates. Could be the case once Link leaves for Termina or becomes Fierce Deity the piece leaves him to remain in Hyrule somewhere.

My idea based on this idea that ALL THE GAMES before BOTW and TOTK are ultimately myths and legends, exaggerations of real events: The important points are Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time, which would correspond to the Founding of Hyrule during Rauru’s time (mixed in with the period in which the Zonai descended) and the First Calamity War respectively. From there, 3 trios of games are present: (ALttP, LW, OoSA), (MC, FS, FSA), and (TWW, PH, ST). The first being the story of the first Hero after the First Calamity, the second being recounts of Post-Demon King Hyrule with the descendants of the Zonai, the Minish, and the third is to explain Hyrule’s salt rocks and large whale skeletons littered about. This would have Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess, and A Link Between Worlds as recounts of countries outside of Hyrule itself, while the first 2 Zelda games are merely generic legends about the Hero. And then the present with BOTW and TOTK

I believe that the timeline split specifically for the Ocarina of Time makes sense as there are anchors. Zelda is the anchor for the Adult Timeline, Link is the anchor of the Child Timeline and... Honestly, I never cared for the Downfall Timeline, as that is the only timeline that does not make sense to me for reasons a lot of people have already agreed with. Though, I do like Bandit's theory on the Abandoned Timeline. I do believe that all the Link reincarnations share a blood connection through the Knights of Hyrule Clan, with the Hero of Winds being no exception. Outset Island in Wind Waker has a lot of references to knights and traditions that ties in nicely with not only the clan, but the heroes of legend. If you have reasons to believe that this is wrong, do feel free to point it out to me. So maybe more than one hero can be around at the same time, going by different names, as they all may not have always been named Link.

I have no reason for my time line other than it’s the order I’ve played them in. And I’m trying to get in to Zelda games now (full disclosure I never finished any of them) 1: phantom hourglass ( I for got how far I got) 2: breath of the wild ( got the master sword then I got really bad joycon drift and never picked it up again) 3: links awakening ( got to the very last transformation of Gannon died then got distracted) 4 : Majoras mask( I’m at the ice place and for got the music notes and got bad joycon drift making it impossible anyway) and 5 I pre ordered tears of the kingdom.

I typically place Botw as a new timeline, because from details in Tears, it feels like Botw/Botw 2 are a soft reboot for the franchise because it disputes even Skyward Sword information, I do think all of the Zeldas are related because Demise says "Blood of the Goddess" and "Spirit of the Hero", meaning Link is just reincarnated, but Zelda is related to other Zeldas What I find interesting is that the Gerudo were split in two in this theory, you have the interlopers who became the Twili, then you have the Gerudo that stayed behind, those who remained likely followed Nabooru meaning that could be the start of them having female leaders, and the Twili would have forgotten their male leader heritage over time which is why Zant thinks he deserves power because he's a male among the once Gerudo now Twili
