Team up was the shortest print ever in Pokémon history, I remember watching TCA gaming saying that team up was pull out of print within 6 months later, so it’s reasonable that those cards are very expensive, not many booster box where open during team up, so I see the price is going keep on growing and growing on team up till maybe it reaches $2,000 for a raw near mint card

This is actually false. The most short printed set is actually ultra prizm. It was out of print pretty much at set release. Yes there was a small reprint but nothing massive at all.

Team Up is also my favorite set ever. The base Gengar & Mimkyu is my favorite card art of all time. When I got back into Pokemon during the pandemic, Team Up dollar packs were everywhere at dollar stores in my area. The amazing art, the comfort of nostalgia during the weirdness of covid, and the thrill of getting to open a set that was already OOP and getting stonked all combined to make me love Team Up. Sucks that I'll have to sell my kidneys on OF if I ever want a master set.

It’s crazy what’s going on with tag team gx cards! I just sold my entire inventory of alts and regular gx over the last few weeks. I raised the prices a little above tcg nm market and still sold out. Many tag team gx alts and holos are still affordable imo. What’s more insane is the pop reports on these is fairly low compared to moonbreon or SwSh alts. So I could see gengar mimikyu or Latias & Latios breaking modern records for pack pulled cards.

Holy hell dude… i was on the fence about buying that Gengar & Mimikyu GX for like $80. Well RIP now 😂. This is pretty cool to see though cause i pulled a couple of alt art GX’s from dollar packs like the Gardevoir & Sylveon GX and Marshadow & Machamp GX and Pheromosa & Buzzwole GX back when they were like $50 and $16 and $8. These cards are beyond beautiful so i am glad that they’re appreciating Atleast. Just wish i pulled the trigger on some of them tho lol

I think collectors are starting to realize just how rare some of these sun and moon tag team cards are compared to sword/shield, especially graded copies. The pops are quite low on those cards. As an example raichu/alolan raichu alt has 431 pop 10 and ttar/sableye has 333, which is crazy low for modern. In contrast umbreon vmax from evolving skies has over 6400 in a PSA 10. I've been collecting tag team cards for years, I still haven't finished my collection, am missing some of the alts. I think I'll just have to accept that some cards (latios/latias, gengar/mimikyu) are just out of my price range now.

Tag-Teams are some of my favorite cards, and they really make me hate the fact that I wasn't back into the hobby yet when they came out. It's a shame that they're trending the way they are, because it makes it difficult for smaller collectors like myself to get my hands on them, but you're right about this trend being just the beginning. We're already seeing trends like this in SWSH with cards like the Giratina V Alt Art creeping closer to the $400 mark.

This is so true!!! I remember S&M being on clearance at Target. I can't imagine that now. I mean, even Hidden Fates was on the shelf at my LGS for a while. There aren't enough team up alts to go around. The pull rates were pretty bad and the boxes are $1500+ a box, so the number of new cards hitting the market is super low and people are realizing that. Sure people could be buying them out, but I don't think that's the only thing going on.

Tag team cards are THE reason I got back into pokemon card collecting. Hands down my favorite modern mechanic, hands down; not even close. I was buying that gengar for what, 15-20 bucks back then and absolutely LOVE how these are getting the hype they deserve 😊😊

Card price manipulation is gravy. A lot of people run these cards like pump and dumps. I know some people that can run up any card to basically any price, you just buy out all of the bottoms. Happened with Umbreon when a few guys decided to buy out every single one under $500 and people began to chase it. Rainbow Vmaxes will run harder than these pretty soon. Collective small groups of people can throw out $100K and basically take any rare hit and make it look like it's going to the moon... then they'll begin to offload them in due time, but slow enough to maintain the price hike. Evolving Skies Vmax rainbows, notable the Rayquaza and Eeveelutions are just as rare as their alt arts and rainbows are gone for good. Just a matter of time and decision before deciding... does everyone buy out all the Rayquaza rainbows that are below $500 and let the other rainbows just naturally follow suit? It's like a $30 raw card and equivalent in rarity to the alt art VMAX. Once people watch them start running, their fomo kicks in and they chase it. The guys who bought them out will then be able to offload at even higher prices. It's crypt/stocks, but on easy mode.

It could also be the fact that a lot of Chinese players are buying a lot of tagteam cards because it is the current meta here in Mainland China. The prices are insane for them here as well. I was trying to pick up the Alt Arts of the Tag Teams like two years ago lol. I didn't get nearly as far into it, but I picked up all the Eeveelution including garde and sylve (mainly for my Eeveelution collection) as well as Zoroark and Greninja, promos like the Lucario Melmetal, Charizard and Braixen, etc. I kinda do regret not getting more before I noticed the first price hikes. But it is what it is. At least I have what I absolutely needed for my Eeveelution binder as well as most of my favorites. (LatiTwins sadly were too expensive for me even back then...)

Unbroken bonds counterfeit booster boxes have been in circulation for at least a year. I bought a lot, that had tag teams from Unbroken Bonds, through an auction and the cards turned out to be counterfeit. They were pretty decent fakes, not super easy to spot, without seeing them in person.

Back then, I legit bought quite a bit of the Tag Team sets and I never got a Tag team card, my luck was ass for those set and I always got the normal GXs or GX full arts. For Unbroken Bonds I had all the non team up ultra rare mons and no team up ones. One day I will get a tag team card…

I just graded my gengar and mimikyu alt art intona psa 10 last month, as well as my rainbow lugia gx. BOTH came out of 1$ mini packs. Talk about a come up.

I also believe the reason these people went back to SM is because they couldnt keep up with the SV japanese market and the english market for SV isnt going up like they expected so they had to find a way to mess with the english market.

Prices have been weakening on modern due to supply. It's much easier to manipulate/"invest" in these older sets that once were considered to be large printruns, now considered short printed sets.

I paid $40 for that Gardy and Sylveon gx alt around a year and a half ago. Crazy how much these all exploded. When hype hits then FOMO starts taking over. Makes more sense for some of these to blow up in price over some of the Swsh alts, but either way it’s ridiculous.

A couple of the kids coming into my work have been exclusively asking for tag team cards. I’ve really liked them and unfortunately I wasn’t collecting at the time they came out. Got the Wailord and Magikarp full art and added it to my mangled binder because it was destroyed but it was $2.

Gardevoir and Sylveon GX AA's price really surprised me though. I remember looking to purchase a bunch of Gardevoir cards about 4 months and I kept running into this AA but the price was about $220-ish back then. I have a few purchases that i'm planning to make over the next couple of months and at least they are stuff that hype bros won't randomly decide to touch.

Wished I kept my Team Up booster boxes and other products sealed. Didn't go too hard on Team UP and I've only pulled the Magi & Wailord alt art. Also regretted not picking up the other alt arts when it was really really cheap.

Love the flex showing off your awesome collection! When i got back into pokemon last year I made it a goal to collect all of the tag teams. Now i move the goal to modern alts lol those are more attainable than the TT right now.

I honestly hate seeing this so much.... I bought the Japanese Gardevoir & Sylveon GX alt art for $40 a few years ago. Finally decided to get it graded with PSA and it got a 10. But of course, PSA lost my entire order and the card is nowhere to be found. They compensated me $199 for the card even though it sold for over $1k on eBay recently 🙃 Just sad times in the PTCG market. It's impossible to keep up unless you're swimming in cash or are lucky enough to own cards that happen to be surging in price.

Hey Oppossum do you think these price spikes justify opening up some of this Tag Team stuff that sealed collectors have in their collection? Or is it wiser to leave the old booster boxes, ETBs and other product from that era sealed and not risk looking for the Tag Team cards in them?

my fav set in the S&M era was Cosmic Eclipse. Now seeing the booster and packs becoming more and more expensive and sought after makes me slightly anxious that it will become super rare once the years go by. I'm definitely willing to invest in a booster box but need to save the dough for it😁

To be fair the latios and latias specifically has been a high dollar card for a modern card for sometime big price increase recently? Absolutely but it was chilling at 500+ for a good long while. Before the covid bump cards would increase in price the further oop they were. I think we are seeing the supply outweigh the new demnad from the bew crowd that is sticking around added to the the massive price hikes we are seeing that wasnt the norm before.

And even then we were like what the hell? It wasn’t moving at $500 it was hanging out there for a long while. But then they got bought up and slowly pushed up to numbers beyond that. I will say I agree new people showing up and expressing interest isn’t helping at all with prices, but it’s nuts how far that has gone 👀
