Late to the CNYE party, obviously, but loved learning a little more about the culture of food in your own words etc :) Also thank you for teaching me that pistachio is happy fruit!! I went to this amazing food talk in Toronto, run by a Canadian food writer and broadcaster and focusing on a family who run a local Hakka Chinese restaurant and invented one of the main Hakka dishes! The talk was followed by a showing of In Search Of General Tso, which is on Netflix if you haven't seen it?! (You probably have though, like, surely Netflix will have recommended it to you if you've been watching food stuff!?!) I got an Uber Eats delivery from a Xinjiang restaurant in Toronto too. It was soooo out-of-leftfield and interesting, like nothing I've had before... barbequed meats but in a completely different way to say, Char Siu. Lamb ribs were probably the highlight... Greasy, spicy and salty but in a good way xD I hope the rest of 2019 brings you much awesomeness, you're super special and it's great to see you making shizz work. I ordered way too much and wished I could have blinked a food-loving KZbin friend to help finish it ;P Also nice red envelope outfit, you! I've only been to HK once and so want to spend more time there one day, so thanks again for sharing your journeys.

Hello! Hope you had an incredible time in Toronto, it certainly sounds like you did! The talk sounded great too especially to meet the family behind one of the classic Hakka dishes. Do you know which one it was? The Chinese takeaway sounds delicious too!
@TheAmishGamer5 жыл бұрын
It was Chilli Chicken!! I actually preferred their crispy beef dish, it was like a super-crunchy, dry, Hakka-spiced, less "refined" cousin between the UK takeaway standard crispy chilli beef and the original Sichuan beef dish that inspired it. The restaurant is called Yueh Tung, for if ever you're in Toronto again. I think you'd find the story of the restaurant, and the two daughters who have now taken on head chef and head of front of house from their mum and dad, interesting so hopefully Suresh Doss posts the talk on his channel sometime in future :) Did I ever tell you about my (currently shelved!!) poetry project about Chinese food?! I put it on the back burner because it'd involve learning Mandarin and/or Cantonese to do the project justice, but your Cantonese vlogs make me want to try and learn again one day!
