Wow. Kenny is amazing. He's going to start from scratch with the instructional vids for v6?! Unbelievable. Kenny Gioia and the rest of the REAPER community are truly it's best feature, and that's saying a LOT! Much love and thanks to Mr. Gioia, all the dedicated developers, and script/action writers who make REAPER absolutely incomparable. I can't believe anyone still uses Pro Tools. I genuinely pity them. I take a mixing course from an instructor who still uses PT, and has teasingly vowed that he'll never use REAPER. It's utterly maddening to watch him struggle for 3 minutes to do something that takes 3-30 seconds to do in REAPER. I estimate that it takes at least 3 times longer to get the same amount of work done in PT or Logic. Avid ain't got no love or Gioia!

So clear and mature. Lots of "beginner" tutorials jump immediately into recording; they don't teach the fundamentals of the program for those who just want to edit and correct. Well done, Kenny, and thanks!

Hey there reaper mate :) random Q would you happen to know how to edit a midi item so that all the string of midi items (or events/patterns) in a track changes accordingly? In FL studio this happens automatically, but in reaper nope. Thanks

This is what software was supposed to be in 2020. Most software today are created for the whims and conveniences of big corporations, at the expense of the user's satisfaction. The 64x Windows version of Reaper is 13mb! Pro Tools has a giant installation file and it doesn't even support drag and drop! Enough of "surveillance capitalism", as they say it. Thanks, Reaper team! You make the world a better place.

@@user-hy4xz1qt9h No it's not. If you're referring to lack of vst instruments, that's not an argument because nobody uses stock sounds anyway. I'd say Reaper is more for advanced users who know what they want to use and customize.

@@user-hy4xz1qt9h D Gaz Your criticism works with absolutely any software, or human creation for that matter. I cannot see anything better in competitor's software. Reaper is the best. Are you complaining because it doesn't do your laundry, or something like that? I think operational systems and search engines should be managed by the Reaper team. Can you name a better software for the user? Can you pin point problems other software doesn't have? I can't.

This awesome tutorial solved one of my huge issues with Reaper 6! THEMES!!!! I completely lost all sound coming from my interface into Reaper when I switched to 6. I banged my head for 2 days on this uninstalling and reinstalling the interface and watching every Reaper tutorial I could find. Decided to search "Reaper 6 Tutorial" and start from scratch. I had noticed the input selection for tracks did not show any way to designate which MIDI channel was the input. I was getting NO SIGNAL. Used themes to switch back to the v4 theme and BINGO, the designated inputs were back. I was able to select Input 3 for my mic and sound was flowing freely. I am sure there is another way to designate inputs but I could not find it anywhere. Thanks, Kenny!

I remember, back in 2013, getting through similar videos for Cubase. This was a pretty good course, and it was not free at all. And it seemed right and fair. And then when 2 years ago or so, I’ve discovered Reaper and its amazing community, with people like Kenny... that was and still is pretty overwhelming. There’s something about our current timeframe where something like that very video can be accessed from anywhere, for free... I don’t know, man. It almost doesn’t feel fair! :) Go Kenny!

I only use Reaper. I've been in the audio engineering game since 1987 (tape machines, analog gear, [expensive] commercial recording studios...) and various times I've used a handful of DAW including, for many years, Pro-Tools, which was an expensive system that was not easily accessible in terms of learning and even to simply play around with for demonstration prior to actually using it for professional work. Years later, Fruity Loops, was created as a free drum-machine/sequence style app and, I think, this helped to usher in the age of Reaper. I use Reaper simply because it is $60 and gives me access to (nearly) every possible in-the-box plugin for audio recording. It can be easy to use or very complicated depending on what you are trying to accomplish. I won't pay for expensive systems like Pro-Tools anymore or any external audio interface that is beyond the price range and expertise required by beginners to start making music right away. We are at the point now where powerful technology like Reaper makes it easy for anyone to take up audio production for any reason at all and the outcomes are beyond anything I could have imagined 40 some years ago when I became aware of synthesizers and audio engineering. So, I second your support, bro! I hope Reaper continues to do great work and folks like Kenny find the wherewithal to continue educating us all on the deeper aspects of this marvelous, miracle machine. Have a great 2020!!

In the military you learn to speak slowly and enunciate clearly for better communication or at least you are told to. That's what his cadence reminds me of and it's really working and is much appreciated. When I do it people think I am being condescending but I don't care about their misplaced anger issues so I guess that is actually not unfair. If you really want to make someone angry repeat yourself more slowly and clearly. There's an advantage to speaking slowly and clearly the first time.
