A few years back I was using Cubase 7 Elements to record a project with a student and my elicense glitched (again!)... I couldn't open Cubase and my student was set to arrive in 10 minutes. Remembered about Reaper, and out of desperation downloaded it. Had it running in 5 minutes, and was able to do the recording session with my student; I was shocked how easy it was. Have used Reaper since and never looked back didn't even bother to get Cubase working again. Reaper runs as easily on my 7 year old HP laptop as it does on my beast desktop, and it has NEVER crashed on me! The price for a personal license is a steal! Thank you for your videos, Kenny. I'm a freelance classical musician. We spent most of our art getting the sound right at the source, not fiddling with software or equipment which compounds us with another technical hurdle. Most of the time, we can't afford to hire recording engineers during performances, so we have to record them ourselves. I've tried several DAWs before REAPER, they didn't click with me because their interfaces are not easily understood. After watching several of your many tutorials, I have recorded many projects, from solo to string quartet to even a chamber orchestra. Post-edits can be done in a breeze. And I can just sync it with my performance videos. With this software, there is always a new project to look forward to. With this level of ingenuity, I could not imagine this software was made by humans.

I've used and owned SEVEN other major DAWS over the past 15 years and I still had to watch this video twice to wrap my head around how unique it is. Many of the functions mentioned are available in one or more other DAWs (usually only one other) but these are the things I noticed that no other DAW I know of can do. --Portable Installations: Multiple!!! installations of Reaper on the SAME machine that can be run at the same time! --Huge number of settings and actions... over twice as much as some DAWs that already allow control of thousands of actions. --Changing mouse modifiers... not sure any other DAW does that --Any type of media on any track: MIDI, mono audio, stereo audio, video, etc. --Automation items with names --Sub projects --Side chaining / routing any audio to any other audio --Powerful MIDI routing that's relatively easy to use compared to other DAWs (Logic) that can do similar routing P.S. Pretty much only excellent DAW marketing managers (and people at media outlets like SonicState) would have time to keep track of all the latest features of every major DAW so corrections to my list are welcome.

That was a fantastic overview! The only thing I would’ve included is how you can create a marker that you can jump to and if smooth seek is selected, it makes it really easy to come up with lead or vocal melodies and be spontaneous with your arrangements. I used to have to move everything and then copy and paste (fearing something might go wrong and not paste over). Now between the markers and the region options, I can quickly test out ideas and then drag them around within seconds. I had purchased FL studio a few months before I discovered these things about reaper and now it’s just a piece of software sitting on my desktop that I have no use for. Reaper rules!!!

I LOVE Reaper. I use it primarily for mastering and audio editing/sample pack creation. The things that keep me using FL studio for composition are the piano roll and midi tools such as the 'scale levels' tool as well as the step sequencer. The sequencer in reaper you mentioned is cool but after trying it, it's just not very seamlessly integrated into the workflow. It'd be great if it automatically created and reserved tracks for mixing and if I could create separate patterns for individual drum sequences. In FL, I like to make each sequencer pattern specific to a drum group (eq bongo sequences in one pattern, kick snare on another, hi hats and cymbals in another) which I can then mix and match later to create my compositions.

Did you know that you can use FL Studio as an inserted VSTi on a Reaper track? That's what I do because I also love the MIDI implementation within FL Studio, but hate pretty much everything else about it. When you insert FL on a Reaper track, you just click the little fruit icon on the window that comes up and it opens a window containing FL which you can then add VSTs to and write MIDI, which is automatically piped to Reaper on that same track.

I wanted a pick a daw that was easy and powerful at the same time, but has a lot of tutorials I can learn from easily. You guys know the rest of the story.

Reaper is the winrar of DAWs. Even though nothing happens when the trial is over, you feel guilted into finally buying it

Very well said, exactly my view! And as I'm quite new in using Reaper, I just learned some things in this video - thanks a lot!

Is that live waveform feature new? Where it shows waveform amplitude relating to the volume envelope? Anyway, one of my favorite features is how it handles VCA groups - it doesn't move the visible fader! I love that and no other DAW I've tried does that.

Next month, I'll kick out ProTools MP9, It's a light version of ProTools anyway, and they gave me zero discount to crossgrade to a full standard license. So Reaper charmed me many times, especially how you can route tracks, makes it very versatile. So you guys have a new costumer. And thanks Kenny to put me over the line. Another thing, I'm done with dongles, which always fills up my USB ports. Thanks again.

Kenny is simply the best tutorial presenter in history!! If you cannot learn with that man leading the tutorial, then you are definitely in the wrong field.

That was a very well put together overiew of the advantages of Reaper! The only thing I miss is an Ableton / Bitwig style clip recording mode - being able to record any length of clip alongside other audio clips of varying lengths and have them loop playback is great for sketching out ideas, especially when jamming / overdubbing guitar parts for example. It's also a good way to store recordings that don''t take up space on the main project timeline until you're ready to use them. Other than that, Reaper kicks every other DAWs butt - at least for me that is!

I was using ACID since 2.0, they finally dropped the ball on some things and I was done. Reaper was very easy to get into, I paid for it after about 2 days of using it.

I used ACID from ACID Music 1.0 (back when it was a Sonic Foundry product) to ACID Pro 2 thru 7. As it became orphaned by Sony, I drifted away from doing loop-based music into straight rock music (which is my original forte) and began using REAPER back around v.3.75 or so. I see Magix resurrected ACID Pro after a decade, but haven't heard anything about it beyond promo hype. Is it any good or best to stick with the ancient AP7? Thanks.

@@DirkBelig If you're doing loops & not doing vocals the new version is good, but for vox with 5 plugins on 40 tracks it lags and skips really bad. that's why I like Reaper.
@DirkBelig4 жыл бұрын
@@Btvstudio Thanks for the reply. My Acid music is just instrumental, though I'd possibly add guitars and stuff. Wonder if I can just ReWire it to REAPER?

with apple and avid both making suicidal decisions over the last few years, I've been looking for legitimate alternatives. You've done a great job at showing some features that I've never seen implemented in PT and quite simply, amazed me. I've seen a lot of ppl switching to Reaper, but seeing this makes me realize why. Just being able to have multiple sessions open...that alone is incredible. Thanks for posting this Kenny!

EVERYTHING I like very much. I will give it a try maybe next December that I've got time, but I was also thinking of trying Digital Performer (from MOTU). Onlly thing I would like, if I will be watching it all day and sometimes night long.... couldn't it be more nice looking!

Reaper sets the high bar for the most cost effective, open and extensible platform for those ready to make the commitment . Thank you Kenny and the Reaper community for the continuing journey of keeping me focused on a single product that continually delights and surprises me year after year after year. It's the gift that keeps on giving. Gratefully.

Ive been looking at Reaper for a while. One of the main deal breakers for me is a dedicated control room mixer in Reaper. Yeah...Ive seen all the responses in the forms that you can set this up depending on the template, but Ive never been able to. This is why Im sticking with Cubase 10.5 . Id like to try Reaper but the one time I put it on my machine I spent most of the day trying and failing to hook it up to my Motu 24 I/O boxes.Everything is easy when you know how but as a newbie on Reaper, 6 hours of noodling with it to not being able to hook it up to my audio card is a bit much.
