I bought a ladder from a salesman once. It looked like a cheap aluminum thing and the price was low so I was gonna pass on it. But the salesman was about 450 pounds. He unfolded it, climbed up to the top, and stood on the little paint shelf. If that had been some slim guy with abs I would have shrugged it off, but that absolute unit of a man proved beyond a doubt this was a great ladder without a word. If they required their salesmen to have abs, he would have lost my business.
@lildemonchan76907 ай бұрын
I'll be honest, as a woman who is quite short and slim, I feel more welcome to buy from a salesman who is hospitable and likely over the average weight. It seems like every time I meet the young and muscled up salesmen like the guy here, they automatically see me as a target and start pressuring me. Meanwhile, with more gentle and helpful salesmen, they make me feel like I'm family. The salesmen like this one just me feel like a child and come across as embellishing the truth to get a sale.

To be fair, there's a presentation style I look for in different salespeople. I would want someone selling their gym personal training services to have abs or a strong core to show they practice what they preach and will be able to hold me accountable toward my goal of building muscle. And they also have to be personable. It goes case by case.
@oggyreidmore6 ай бұрын
@@aaliyahfoster2705 I don't think it's necessary "to be fair" to this guy. I would imagine with the exception of the very niche example you gave, most salespeople you meet wear shirts. I saw a husband and wife relationship tiktok channel where the husband was answering a viewer's question about why men will wait until the relationship is essentially dead before trying to save it with counseling or whatever. He said it's because men and boys are often conditioned to only consider something important if it's screamed at them, through coaches, teachers, pastors, etc. Verbal abuse and public humiliation just become a familiar part of the learning process and they come to expect it, meaning their wives' complaints and needs are taken as idle conversation until she gets frustrated and angry enough to start shouting. I was a little skeptical, like I knew that kind of treatment was more common for men, but to that level? Now I believe it.

Definitely an abusive parent/parental figure thing and not a man thing. If you mean it’s usually men who are the ones yelling and screaming, then yes, it usually is a man thing. Of course that is understandable, but I'd like to think a lot of people can see through that and can't respect people who do that if the person states a budget. I would be a horrible sales person if I made a majority of my money through commissions because if someone instantly says I can't afford anything more than *set amount* I would straight up not be able to tell them to spend more money unless I truly thought it could help somehow. I always like it when a sales person has obvious passion about the products he is selling too. Like knowing the history of the company, owning products himself, knowing way too much about any given product, etc.

The best salesman are the people that look and act the kindest. Their customers will have a higher opinion of them, trust them more, and be more willing to buy whatever they’re selling. Going out of your way to be intimidating towards your customers will cause less sales, not more.

you know the seminar is going well when the guy you paid to teach you tells you he knows literally nothing about the things he's trying to sell, real vote of confidence there.

I was in sales for a couple of years and hated it. I knew that it wasn't for me. There are techniques you can implement to get better, but it's kind of obvious that you have to be the type of person that enjoys sales to be good at it. This guy is so ridiculous. P.S. Chad reminds me of Frugal Aesthetic and that's a great thing.
@bec7080 Жыл бұрын
There's two types of people who love sales. The best kind of sales people, people who LOVE to know as much about the products as they can so that they can out intelligence and out sell as many people as possible (positive competition) and people who will lie to get whatever sales they can get (negative competition). Good companies reward the first, bad companies reward the latter.

Same, I got talked into a sales position at the company I wrote my thesis for. They needed someone and I did research at the sales department for my thesis. It went terrible, I've never been that unhappy, and it made me so incredibly insecure. I'm good at thinking about what needs to be done and how, but actually selling it... big nope
@170AndBeyond Жыл бұрын
@@jonnnnniej I feel you on that. In the setting that I was in, I also just didn't like manipulating people because it was a product that I didn't care about or believe in. I got out of customer service and sales altogether and I'm never, ever going back.

Yes like I want to know everything about what I’m buying especially if it’s a big purchase and something you’re using a lot. That’s the worst advice. I also wouldn’t want the salesman wearing his 9 year old sons shorts.
@zimbu_ Жыл бұрын
The importance of that does depend on the product, for a really crap product seeming like a trustworthy authority figure can be more beneficial than knowledge. Like, a high-fee mutual fund salesperson doesn't really benefit from knowing how the product works past what can fit on a small leaflet.
