Spright Elf kind of holds a similar spot as Halq in my mind; it's a broken card, that is definitely banworthy, but it helps SO many rogue strategies and I love being able to play a copy of elf in my Atlantean mermail deck, or in my punk libromancer deck to get multiple uses out of a diviner of the herald. It just helps so many rogue strategies that can use it, which is why I wasn't calling for a Halq ban even though I understand how strong both cards are.

I think the difference is that Halq summons from the deck, meaning it encourages you to run cards that extend off of halq. Like, any deck that could make halq would run o-lion, or then redrose. Spright elf helps out decks that already use level 2's, but doesn't really push you to run level 2s just for elf. With halq, you would have 6 decks that all go halq -> red rose -> rox rose -> rose shoot -> wonder magician for scythe. With Elf, you have spright which uses it to extend and summon back toad, Tear which uses it to summon merrli to mill on the opponent's turn, and Libro which use it with diviner. It's a card that sees play in a lot of decks, but doesn't overcentralize them imo. They do different things with it.

@@chibiraptor I get that, and I understand Halq is better, I'm just saying that both cards offer rogue strategies a power play that otherwise wouldn't have one. I know top decks use cards like these too, I'm not ignorant, but if you look at the best decks in the format pre / post Halq ban they literally don't change, whereas every rogue strategy ever that had Halq lines instantly became unplayable. I just feel like if you're going to ban a problematic card like Halq, it needs to be at a time when it will actually make the best decks hurt more than the rogue strategies, instead of at a time where rogue and below are relying on the card, and the top meta decks are just as playable without it.

I think part of the reason Tear is still the best deck in the OCG is because pretty much every other strong deck from 2022 was knee-capped on their list

Tear is the one that got knee-capped the most out of them, it pretty much got nuked into oblivion with 3 key main deck limited, 1 semi, and the most important card banned. Compared to that Spright only got 2 limits, Kashtira got 3 limits, and Floo only have 1 semi and statue ban, which is not a Floo card, and they all disappear yet Tear remains.

Tear isn't really the best deck persay, not because it is the strongest deck, but just because many people do have the cores already, it's relatively cheap, while still being decent. Basically people don't use it for meta relevancy, but instead due to it being the best meta decent deck for the budget. I am an ocg player, and thought many at my locals do voice their interest to switch decks, they are simply now stuck on Tear. Some reasons that they already over commit investment on the deck and trying to get some play value out of it before Switching, while some doesn't have the Budget yet to switch decks. Philippine player btw.

This next list will be similar to that OCG list that only limited 2 of the 4 Ishizu cards and try to surprise us all with some weird “different” hits like they did with Ronin

Please keep in mind that Konami wants to put all those POTE and DABL cards into the 2023 Tins and sell them like crazy. That's all they care about. So they cannot hit the decks too hard before they drained the last money out of them. Because of that I think we are only going to see small adjustments until then. Maybe they are going to hit the Ishizu cards since MAMA is sold out.

Not neccessarily. Konam isnt stupid, they know if the players leave, there is no one to sell the cards to. And right now, players are leaving in droves. The deck needs to be hit, and it probably needs to be killed immediately.

I overall really like the banlist, even though I'd be down for a Spright Elf ban and keep Beatrice at 1. However, the Ronintoadin unhit is massive copium, and also probably a bad idea. If you unban it, you basically have to ban Substitoad again, and while I would not be against that, it's just unrealistic to believe Konami would unban a card, leave it limited and completely unplayable for a few formats, then ban it again in order to bring back something, so I'm pretty sure Konami is decided to keep Ronin banned for a long time, and that might actually be a good thing for the game.

You don't need to reban substitoad if you unban ronin because the card is actually very mediocre even with it. Unsearchable one of that needs you to run an inherently bricky deck.

In order to do the ftk line, frogs needed to deep draw for mass driver, which could take a few turns, run 20 fucking frogs that you don’t want to draw, and most importantly, needed the normal, so you could not use canon soldier. If you’re still scared of the worlds worst ftk that dies to a single imperm, consider the following Ban canon soldier

However, I do believe there are other ways to abuse the pair, and not necessarily by going through like 20 frogs or something, but just by splashing Substitoad and One for One in a deck that already wants to play frogs and doesn't struggle too much to get some tribute fodder (maybe Spright, not sure if it would really work) and there you go, you basically play a regular deck but sometimes you're allowed to go through like 3 more extenders for no other reason than "I drew the limited card". Also Cannon Soldier and other cards with similar effects should be banned.

Imo those are not enough Tear/Ishizu hits, because tear will get more Support with Kasthira Tearlaments, which results in 15 Tear monster + Field spell. Then u have 4 Ishizu cards + scream + sulliek, which are around 25 cards which trigger or can use their GY effect. Thats way to much. Teardanger was already decently consistent but now they have even more cards. It probably wont stay tier 0 but even with these hits it will still be Tier 1 and probably still the strongest deck, because if u hit tear, u have to hit spright and flunder, which basically results in the same downgrade from all 3 decks but with Tear still being the best.

I did some research and looking into leaks Ishizu cards are all fair game for being hit. For Tear rn Scheiren and Kitkallos - are the really the only hits that can happen outside of *Merrli and *Havnis maybe. *OTS upgrades for Scream, Merrli and Havnis can happen keep in mind for this Planet, Kaleido and Rulkallos are secret rares and they rarely hit those nowadays Reinoheart is safe because OTS Ulti and won't get hit honestly as it doesn't need it. Spright Cannot hit elf because OTS ulti, at 1 could be possible. Blue and Sprind are safe cause secret rares But Jet and Starter are fine to hit

Limiting fountain kills every combo runick variant. The entire runick fusion line up is build around multiple fountains so you need at least 2.

I enjoy the technical points discussed for each card, the context they are in, the consideration of Konami's past behaviour, and the scenarios if the strongest meta decks are hit. A couple of general questions, commenters included: 1. What does it take for Konami to errata problematic cards? 2. Is there a world where Tear could come back? I've heard thoughts stating that Dragon Rulers could come off the banlist. Would Tear be similar or are the cards simply too broken to risk it?

I give it 7 out of 10, because, i only disagree in 3 things 1. Super Poly i think should be at 3, its a board breaking staple, and it cures the degenerate combo decks from time 2 time 2. More Bystial hits, I agree that they are fun in Branded, Dragonmaid, Dlink etc, but they are so splashable, and they I think make graveyard decks more unplayable, than Abyss Dweller. 3. NOT MENTIONING ELECTRUMITE!!!!

As long as we can agree that King of the Swamp is fine, we can be friends :) I do think its time to ban Winda though, its half the reason why Tearlaments is still hanging on. We need to be curbing back busted floodgates, and to compensate, we need to ban Knightmare Phoenix so that less powerful floodgates that aren't Skill Drain or Mystic Mine can still exist and be effective in this game. EDIT: I'm surprised he didn't hit Hugin. If you hit Hugin, the only Runick card that can search Fountain then is Tip and generic field spell searchers. It makes the deck completely balanced. Like, you still have 3 Demise of the Land, 3 Metaverse and 1 Terraforming. The deck will be fine if you ban Hugin and leave both Tip and Fountain at 3. That's like, what, 10 searchers? All that hitting Hugin does is ensure that they don't have in-archetype protection for Fountain, which is a fair nerf for a mill package thats this good.

Honestly it isn't that tear is still super strong, it is that all the deck in the ocg are very weak and Tears just happened to be slightly stronger than the rest (also non-linear play is really good).

Regarding Kashtira there are some easy and financially painless ways to sell the deck and hit it at the same time to make it more bearable. If you just ban Diablosis the Mind Hacker, then the deck can no longer banish a quarter of your deck turn 1 and looses multiple triggers for Shangri-Ira, meaning that the deck also can no longer reliably lock out your zones to the point of unplayability. Furthermore you can prevent your opponent from setting up according to your deck as without Diablosis they'd need to use Unicorn to see and banish from your extra deck, so just letting them play would be enough.

Joshua i think you don't play enough rogue to understand how toxic the bystial cards are for so many different decks. While dweller is counterable by handtraps, imperm, droplet, etc. , opening magnamut when going second against a lot of decks is a guaranteed win just by that one card alone. 4 interruptions for 1 hand card is just not fair and i don't see how people think this card should be anything else than banned.

i feel like the problem in set rotation is not just the fieldspell search, but also the additional value it has in countering other fieldspell reliant decks and blanking cards like imperm and evenly also in combination with rite of aramesir set rotation is so much better than terraforming since dracoback allows you to get and use both fieldspells (ie hangar and diskolloseum)

How does set rotation blank imperm or evenly again?

It puts a field spell on the field, conteracting the "if you control no cards" condition for activating from hand. Set Rotation used to be used in decks that could pop their own field spells to use as starters like Sky Striker, sometimes paired with Light Stage as a control tool if it didn't matter which side the field spell was removed from. I mistakenly said a moment ago it could be used to pop the other field spell but have deleted that post. Later on people started using it to shove floodgate fields like Mystic Mine and Necrovalley in peoples' faces, and it's probably because of that it's still limited in the OCG and I don't think has ever even been allowed into Master Duel.

You can also blank decks that need their fieldspell by giving them a field spell like oracle of Zefra which they can't flip up because the search is mandatory basically locking them out of their field spell zone

Tbh if they want to hurt Tear they also have to hit the names. What they should do is limiting havnis and merrli or maybe even straight up banning either havnis or merrli. Havnis gotta get hit either way since the kashtira tear is a havnis 2.0 and 6 havnis is way too much. And Merrli is one of if not the best name so that one has to get hit aswell. Imo they should ban havnis and limit merrli.

Greetings Josh, I want to express my love for this video as I really admired how you put an hour of your time in making this! it was really wholesome to watch it! obviously we do agree and disagree and stuff which is fine, so here are stuff that I disagree with personally (if you do not mind) I am definitely against banning dweller and Called by (scythe is a special case where I am just debating if it should or not) but the two mentionned cards earlier definitely dont deserve to get banned (especially Dweller). Dweller is a ""temporary" broken card. and it happens that we are in a tier 0 format heavy reliant on GY. but once this ends (even if tier gets hit and still tops) a lot of decks will raise, and none possibly will be as reliant on GY as tear is/was. (best example Sprights) Branded Fusion should DEFINITELY not get a hit (limited), I would accept a semi limitation but thats all, deck really dies to an ash (imagine hitting tear, handtraps will be back) so it is a manageable deck imo. Kashtira will NEVER get a hit, it is too wishful thinking imo. it is too new imo that I could see same treatment tear got where they hit stuff around the card (tear "lost" snow, curious but not a direct hit)so I can see pot getting hit OR if ever we want to be extreme, a semi limitation. Swordsould getting hit is ABSURD imo. they lost archenemesis, it is like Datascape that lost VFD and look where they are now. so yeah. there are other stuff I wanna discuss like floodgates but I think I am fine with this for now haha.

one big Problem I have joshuas lists and argumentations is that its only focused on the pure competitive scene and play which makes some sense but we have to keep in mind the biggest part of the playerbase are rouge/casual oriented. + Its sad but also reasonable that no big yugituber/streamer states the fact that even a List like this will most likely be unrealistic bc konamis banlists are only profit oriented

Unless you do actually ban sprind, which I think elf would be banned before that, and elf most likely wont get banned for a while. Branded bystial is a crazy ass deck. I think it’s more than playable now. People don’t realize how strong branded lost is as well as the fact that saronir, branded beast and lubellion all interact with it. With cartesia and 3 masquerade the deck just wins if piloted and built correctly.

Nah limit fenrir. It does all you say plus searches a tear name that mills and makes the same board. Tear will still be the best deck with a banlist like this because kashtira searches tear cards that keeps its consistency. I’m pretty sure that’s why kashtira got hit specifically the cards that search. They are just more copy’s of perlarino.

I understand Sprind being too new and right now tears does the crazy stuff with it, same with Elf. I think konami is eventually limiting elf so you can play it in other decks in the future. Which I think is cool to have a new archetype that synergizes well with older cards. Or maybe they'll just straight up destroy tear over here and I mean destroy, so they're immediately touching these cards even if their respective archetype is "fair" right now compared to tear.

I'll admit I'm a little biased towards Spright Elf but I genuinely like that card, outside of toad it can do some really interesting plays on your opponents turn (Dawn of Herald + N'tss, ghoti quick synchroing, merli mills etc..). So ban Toad, takes away one of the more degenerate interactions with Spright Elf and it also helps sell Ghoti as the side engine alongside Spright.

I think Beatrice needs a ban for the same reason Curious got banned: milling any select card in the game is broken, and everyone agreed on Curious needing a ban. Beatrice does the same thing as Curious, except it's a Quick Effect that makes it a lot more versatile, and it's pretty generic as any Deck that can make Rank 6s with ease can make it. I understand the mentality of BAs needing a Beatrice, but Beatrice is far more impactful in better Decks and is basically a better Lavalval Chain/Curious and those cards are banned

0:00 I disagree with the core idea that a centralized format is not a bad format. It kinda is, because it stifles creativity in order to play the same 35 optimized card list with 5 cards to attempt to spice things up, you even said the same thing yourself in your recent 2023 video. A format does not need to be all about bullshit 6 negates + 2 floodgate turn 1 boards to be bad or unhealthy. The absurd disparity of power between ishizu tear and other decks, the unreasonable power creep of 2022 all contribute to the horrendous format we have today. I also disagree with handtraps being good card design. While i also despise disgusting combo decks, hand traps are bullshit luck-based interaction that has no place in the game, especially not cards like Ash where it's impossible to play around them. Nibiru is fine. Ideally, neither hand traps nor boards that make you wish you had hand traps should exist. I think the tear girls should all go to 1. Ideally that would disincentivize the use of the Ishizu package because you're never milling them, while still letting you theoretically use all three in a turn. On all other counts, i agree.

Idk why people aren’t treating tears like dragon rulers. The power creep is genuinely unaffected by like the next 6 months of new releases, and at this point you have to ban the entire deck to stop it. Honestly after those hits to the top 3 decks I think it’s fine. I think Spright tear and flunder will still be better than decks like Despia and Swordsoul just brought down in power a little so it’s more manageable

Random question but would TCG Yugioh be able to work with an implemented Master Duel system? Have 4 or more formats/leagues that are seperate in power level to comb through the competition thus allowing people the ability to choose which format and power level they would like to play at? Have a higher tier format with decks consisting of the best meta decks (ie, tear,spright,kashtira,flunder etc) Mid tier format with decks that are strong but have been power crept by the top tiers( swordsoul,eldlitch,despia/branded, Average tier with decks consisiting of Plunder Patrol, or archetypes that are not great but not terrible either. Lower tier format consisting of your decks that are just fun to play and aren't really competitive. Also do you unban cards to make decks and archetypes relevant to join into those formats?

Could not agree more regarding Baronne; there are so many Synchros that it just flat-out invalidates. It'll probably survive the next F&L list, given that it's getting reprinted in Maze of Memories, but as soon as CYAC drops in the TCG, which has two new Level 10 Synchros, Baronne's days will be numbered.

Id say outside of not hitting another tear name, the list is pretty good. Id like havenis banned though. I think that is the most unfair part about the deck is just how much they plus on your turn through havenis. But thats just me

I have to disagree about gigantic spright. The issue is that it also restricts the opponent. It’s so weird to where I can’t use gamma, nib, or a bystial just because you resolved an effect to help you. Also, remember that sprind can’t be used as link material the turn it’s summoned. Banning gigantic means spring would have to sit there and it limits your plays a little more.

I agree that tearla needs to be hit but it may be yo soon to completely nuke the deck, imo if you hit the ishizu cards rogue are gonna have an easier time agaisnt tearla, specially if you hit the shufflers, because if we look back at the format before mama, tear used to be really powerful but inconsistent and i think thats the perfect point to have the feck at Obviously Konami also needs to hit the field spell and a few names to actually make the deck more inconsistent

In terms of tear I would appreciate it to ban kit limit the handtrap one as well as merril& reino. In addition they can consider the ishizus like in the ocg and mb ban the traps. If they let sheiren and the planet untouched other decks can also profit of their generic supp. Sheiren and planet are great for shadolls 👌

This ain't a realistic hit but ban merli or sprind it the best tear hit in combination with hits to ishizu (and kit if they go for that). Ban sprind stops you from going dark charmer into send merli shenanigans but keeps merli around so they have the 3 names for fusing. Ban merli stops sprind plays as well as getting rid of a name if you wanna hit tear even harder but IMO banning tear names would suck as then you lose a way of fusing which is a huuuge hit to the deck's plays and consistency. I'm a fan of limit havenis as it keeps the name around to send off reinoheart and (with tearlaments kashtira coming out in PHHY) helps prevents having too many monsters that mill on the opponent's turn. Probably a hot take on havenis but just wanted to give people food for thought

I just find it funny that people think Konami would even do half of this kind of list the last 2 years we have not had a list that does half of this so why expect more. Now for sure Tear is not walking away without some kind of hit but it won't be nearly this much. Honestly if Konami hits the Ishizu cards at all this hurts Tear very badly it would be like when we had Danger Tear again and no one was scared of that version of Tear. Spright will probably be hit and my guess would be Starter to 1. Statue is gonna go 90% sure just because Floow has been around quite awhile now and has never been hit and this alone makes the deck so much weaker. As for Tear hits realistically Planet to 1, Keldo to 1, Kelbek to 1, and wishful thinking Meri to 1. What I don't get is I thought I saw somewhere Konami isn't going to do mega tins anymore not sure what they would replace it with but I think they are changing it up so hoping for reprints in tins doesn't make sense. I honestly believe that this is the best were gonna get if we even get this much. The Konami balance team or whatever you wanna call them are so out of touch of the game they seem to get 6 month old data and use that to make there ban lists.

Unless ronin returns, spright is unplayable with Both elf and Starter to 1. Theyre all extremely weak monsters that rely on grinding. I would ban merrli too. One less name means only 2 fusions per turn, and no more elf/sprind plays, which is fine.

I could see them hitting tear SUPER hard and leaving ishizu untouched, making tear essentially an ishizu deck with tear payoffs. Ishizu is really only worth playing with tear or naturia. I think it's fine for a couple decks to be really good at disrupting the graveyard. Personally, I'd limit scheiren and merrli at least. They definitely won't ban perlereino, but I'd like that. Kit to 1 would be funny.

If anything, these arguments should be a reason why limit 2 should be changed to "you can only have up to 2 copies of any card in the list," like in DL, making it a valid restriction to the floor of decks. Imagine if you put Tears and Ishizu cards on that list, and some powerful Extra Deck monsters on it. Bam, you've solved the issue in one sitting.

I don't know why Konami is so scared to give decks the Spyral/dragonruler/Zoodiac treatment. These decks have main combo pieces or sometimes their whole engine banned. They could easily kill an archetype after 1 format. Then you're forced to play other decks especially some of the pack filler archetypes. It's so dumb everyone just considers YCS players. 1-3 deck formats hurt the locals scene and budget players. Traveling to a YCS and building a hood deck for it is way too much commitment for the average player.

This list as left, Spright would be the undisputed best deck with tears as a close second. Also completely kills Kashtira a month after release? I have some big disagreements with a few of these cards, specifically the draw cards in prosp and desires. Both of those cards are very fair and have huge drawbacks, consistency hits are always terrible and don't address real problems. Swordsoul is the level of deck I think that the TCG should be balanced around, it's inherently fair and can break most boards, can go first or second has a lot of grind and doesn't set up more than 3 negates per turn including handtraps. Floodgates need to be addressed in a more significant way for this game to ever be in a healthy state, because what always happens is that some meta deck with a lot of consistency and draw build a win condition around a floodgate plus multiple negates and that is never fun. People who want floodgates either don't like or don't play the modern game, and at this point we are so far past what they want that a compromise towards keeping them around is just flawed. We will never have a chance to play the game as it exists in its most enjoyable and interactive state, partially because the people in charge at Konami don't play or understand the game at some significant level but also because the playerbase is split between extremely casual players that want floodgates and blue-eyes to be insane and players who like new cards and the general direction of interesting combo decks. I'm not like a pro-combo person, but at the end of the day these decks are fundamentally more interesting than any 5 traps printed before the link era. Yeah combo decks should be stopped from doing things like VFD Adamancipator and Drytron herald boards, but that still comes down to banlist management and balance.

about tears. i think they should BAN: -Havnis (this kinda fix that cancer of making your oponent 1st turn in both players turn) also reduce the amount of fusions summons from 3 to 2 which is not bad -instant fusion (if we are not hitting kitakalos, then this car should be ban) LIMIT: -Mudora and Keldo (both cards interrupts the GY or give back resources in a stupid way) they are ban worthy tbh but maybe limited they are fine -tear field spell (to reduce a little bit the consistenc and power)

Wait, so the people that mentioned Tear outside the monsters was Scream and Cryme? I feel like Sulliek should've been talked about and this isn't because of the negate alone, although it's very annoying to deal with even more with Kashtira Tearalament being added into the deck, but it too can search a Tear monster when milled, giving the deck already too much consistency for getting the cards they want. Obviously Kitkalos needs to be banned, but Sulliek I believe feels like you can play around a good amount of cards.

Man I hope they start hitting tear after the next ycs, my locals used to pull an average of 8-9 players a tourney and now it’s literally 4 and they are all ishizu besides one sprite player, I know people go on about how “It’s a really skill expressive deck” but like it has to be one of the most boring decks you can play against, like the only real way you can shut them down is by blowing them out with power cards like dweller, their turns take so long for really not that impressive boards, and they just have every kind of tool with ease to search it. And all of these combined facts makes it very boring and very stale deck to have to play into over and over and over and over. I wouldn’t be surprised if this format was LITERALLY killing the game in the tcg right now. I just want to play with my friends again :((

If you limit ot then milling it means that you lose access to it if ot gets banished or negated, but this is under the assumption that the others are limited
