I really enjoy watching live videos of Julian playing, espeically watching the reactions of the other musicicians. No matter who it is they are often clearly amazed by what they are seeing and hearing. And they must have seen some behind the scenes playing too. Magical.

Thanks for this. One of my favorite parts of this performance from Julian is that, despite the intro being obviously incredible, he ends it so delicately and hands it over to scott in such a way that the audience FORGETS TO CLAP. Musicianship, man.

Every time I do a transcription of Julian’s work he always blows my mind. I also have another transcription of Nocturne on my channel and will be uploading one of Persian Rug soon. Thanks for watching!

this is posing as an intro, but it's actually a separate piece altogether. It is far more demanding than the original melody and gives him ample opportunity to show off his formidable technique/compositional skills.

Thanks for this. I might give it a go... I don't expect to reach that level, but it will be a learning experience for sure.

It’s definitely a huge challenge but there are some great concepts to take away from this even if you can’t play it up to speed.

The section of 2:13 to 2:43 is probably the best, most emotional improvisation I've ever heard. I could never even compose something like that, let alone do it on the fly.
@freddymclain7 ай бұрын
I seriously doubt that he did this 'on the fly.' It may not have been annotated, but it was certainly rehearsed a few times.

I took a one on one lesson with him and asked him about this very intro. I asked him if it was 100% improvised and he said it was. I doubt he’s lying. I’ve listened to at least 6 different intros he’s done to this exact song, and none of them were similar in any way.

It is really good, i hope it is not a impro though. That would be really scary 😢

Of course all musician who improvise have pre-meditated lines that they have worked out but a true improviser has a vocabulary that they have developed and a way to hear what they want and take it from an idea in their mind and bring it to fruition. Julian is a master at this and because his lifetime of crafting these skills I can for sure say this is improvised. It’s hard to imagine something like this being improvised to others but with lots of discipline and practice it can be done.

@@chrisdelanyguitarist Nicely written. To be fair, i thought it was. But it makes it even better!

I took a lesson w Julian during the pandemic. I asked him about this intro and if it was 100% improvised. It’s just so sophisticated I couldn’t believe it was all improvised. Of course he said it was all improvised ha. He said a lot of times he’ll sit w just his guitar and force himself to improvise for 45 minutes straight.l without stopping. The guys a true genius. And a hell of a human.
