I think some things from De Staat reminds me of QOTSA. They have a similar edginess to their sound, with some weird arrangements mixing rasp and mellow vocals, but they each have their unique vibe (QOTSA is more serious and traditional, while De Staat is more playful and weird). Albums like I_CON, Machinery and O.

Thank you for this review. I've been a massive QOTSA fan since I first heard No One Knows. None of my friends understood why I liked them so much, and would take jabs about the band whenever they could to get under my skin. They dare to go for a different sound, and they're extremely good at what they do. Incidentally, it's that same reason I got into The Darkness when I first heard you. I appreciate the hell out of a unique sound. And as for Homme; the fact that so many big musicians have lined up to work with him just backs up the fact that he's got a massive talent that resonates with real musicians.

@canucklehead0

@@fl0nk11 Absolutely! He is on full display in "Emotion Sickness" and I hope that spotlight continues in the upcoming album. That said, he has always weaved some really detailed and complex basslines in the past couple of albums especially. Micheal's voice is getting more notoriety as well as he has a range similar to Josh's. Queens is always a fantastic experience and live they are truly unreal, I have not seen another band so musically proficient except for maybe King Crimson. Troy and Dean are superstar musicians in their own right and both multi-instrumental, in fact with the exception of Jon Theodore (who is an Amazing drummer) all the members of the Queens are multi instrumentalists which always bodes well for us as consumers of their music. I am eagerly awaiting my copy of In Times New Roman which along with the Foo's and Garbage's new works will be dominating my playlists along with a few lesser known but still amazing bands like Black Honey, Sweat and never to be left behind, ever,...The Hives, all of whom also released new music this year!

Yes! I love Josh’s little vocal touches that are so different, like when he sang ferocious and the way he sang “then my fever broke”. My favorite band for sure. Love you and your analysis as always. ❤

I was listening to Led Zeppelin 1, 2, and 3 in the car before I heard this song and I thought it sounded like Led Zeppelin but I didn’t know if it was just because I had been listening to so much Led Zeppelin, or if it actually sounded like Led Zeppelin. How many times can I say Led Zeppelin?

This song just didn’t land for me. And Queens of the Stone Age (and Radiohead if I’m being honest) is my favourite band. I think the chorus just sapped the edginess right out of the track. I don’t doubt the album will have many bangers. They are rock ‘n’ roll ambassadors, perhaps even the last great rock band.

Like with all of their albums, this is just the first single and then there is all the other stuff that is less Pop but just great. Best band in the world. I was thinking that QOTSA had quitted because Josh said that could be so in a podcast and then nothing from him in 2 years or some, or nothing i have seen.
