@@kevinhibbard320 I have to say that while I greatly enjoy his music and recognize that he is an immensely talented musician and I do like him as actor as well, what truly impresses me are his voice acting chops. He was so fucking good as Bowser. A lot of voice actors focus solely on voice acting and are incredible, some live action actors wander into it but are still recognizable as themselves, but this guy effortlessly shifts from one medium to another and does absolutely incredible job on all of them. Next level stuff.

This brings back the memory of seeing Tenacious D play at western springs in NZ 2011. Foo Fighters rocked out to Tie Your Mother Down and the TD lads came out on stage only wearing their undies.. running across the stage, my 12yr old son and I were front row and they stopped in front of us and did squats.. in their undies 😂 my poor son didn't know where to look 😂 This Wicked Game remake is epic 😁

Thanks for acknowledging how great his voice is, it really is. That's my favorite review in a while. Absolutely they should record that. That's one of my favorite combinations - comedy and music. They're funny, but it's not to mask lack of talent. If anything the comedy threatens to undermine it sometimes. I watch a video like "Tribute" and think "Okay, but do enough people notice how truly talented they are too?"

I think he can over do the performative side of things sometimes and it winds me up because he’s such a good singer but it gets lost in the “Don’t forget I’m a comic actor too” mentality. This is an amazing video. I fell out! Damn. I love Jack Black, he's an amazingly talented singer. One band rehearsal, a long time ago, we were playing a song and the guitar player was doing the "bend the neck" thing, and he did it one time too often, and the neck came out of the guitar. It made the MOST amazing sound when the neck departed from the body. 68 SG. He still has it, all the luthier had to do was glue the neck back in.

I don’t know if you’re a nature lover, but there’s some cool hikes in the mountains behind Pasadena. Two that aren’t too challenging are Eaton Canyon and Millard Canyon. The June Gloom is fog blown in from the ocean, so if you get an early start you can hike out of the gloom and see L.A. blanketed with the fog before it burns off. The Eaton Canyon hike is probably better for this, if you go up to Echo Mountain to look at the “ancient” ruins of the hotel. (Ancient meaning about a hundred years old.) Anyway, kiss L.A. for me and tell her I miss her.

I am surprised when i hear musical colleagues, or even civilians trash this song (the original version) as "sappy" or "cloying" or "overdone". I think they maybe dismiss it because they see and hear that touch of Elvis in Isaac's voice and look, or, they've never been under someone's spell, really lost, totally, powerlessly in love/lust with someone they know they're never gonna have, or can't keep. Or the've never really listened to it critically, with a bit of an open mind. As a musician or songwriter having even a little connection to pop or rock, how can they not hear how it transcends on so many levels? Production, songwriting, vocals, the bloody guitar work....oi. Their loss I guess. Really enjoyed your utter enthrallment with this and the way you pointed out how good Black's voice and singing is. My focus on his music has been derailed by the horrible movies he's in and his acting, just too cringey silly ,and it's prevented me exploring and enjoying his music. Thanks for that.

This is sublime! Like many, I loved Tenacious D in their early days and wouldn't have thought they'd be capable of putting out something like this. I remember hearing the HiM version of "Wicked Game" whilst I was out there in '99, I'm fairly sure it was the B-Side on the Finnish single release of "Join Me" which honestly was everywhere at the time! I remember when the Jack Black movie School of Rock was playing in my town, you could buy tickets for a handful of dollars. The cinema was showing fare in its second run... that was worth the admission, School of Rock. I remembered you today because, even though I think the Hives have gotten back to Europe to play dates, I saw them on KZbin Shorts. Long form version of the video idea: At the end of this video, when something to their left catches their attention and then they run up to the camera, they should pull the camera and then run back down the beach all giddy like, back the way they came, camera follwing. Then at the end of the song, the camera stops moving while the boys run further away, widening the shot and right-of-frame, enters beach police on a dune buggy that's been chasing them.
