I was in kindergarten in 1978 when I was given one just like this. First thing I did was take it apart while riding in the back of my dads pickup during a long trip. I remember playing with the variable inductor coils. I ended up going to college for electrics.

My great aunt gave one to me when I was about 5 (~1991). I just dusted it off and tested it. Still working great even after being knocked around in a toy chest for years. Mine is missing a headlight, the ‘spirit of ecstacy’ hood ornament, and battery cover, but still in decent shape. Made in Japan too, not HK. The wheels also rotate.

These car radios were popular in the late 70s. I have one in the shape of a coke bottle I bought in 79. And recently, I purchased a 63 Cadillac convertible radio from about the same year as the coke bottle. Very cool!

I was trying so hard to find out what decade this came from but the box and sources online just wouldn't tell me, thanks for the info! Also a coke bottle radio would be fun to have too, I might look into those.

yes we have one also..it was in the 1980's when my cousin brougth it from the US..my father's radio :)

I had this when I was a kid. Only AM radio. It was all plastic with no play action. I tore it apart. Lol!

I got one last week from daughter. Mine does not have gold bumpers and radiator. Yes, it is a directional radio. Mine is missing steering wheel and radiator's winged lady. I can make a steering wheel, but wont bother with lady. Also missing a number plate, but i am using the other one to make a copy. I think the dickey seat handle may be in wrong place. Also there should be a small side door to give access to dickey seat.
