Talking from experience here, remember to leave some room for expansion around the edges of your flooring. Seasonal change can make your floors swell and can create bumps as things expand. Just leave like 10mm around the perimeter or whatever the flooring brand recommends. Your looks very tight to the edge of your walls. I had to fix mine using one of those flush cut saws.
@Marco_zlb2 жыл бұрын
The bigger issue is, even if there is enough space - sound is going to transfer into the walls making your neighbors love you
@EnsignLovell2 жыл бұрын
I have installed a few wood floors, one of the best things I found were cork expansion strips. Shove those under the beading, nobody is any wiser, and your floor has slight room to move.
@Christopher_T_Paul2 жыл бұрын
He may just get away with it as the room is very small and if the floor expands it will be expanding into plasterboard which is softer than the wood.

Another tip is that you can leave a gap at the bottom of the drywall so that the floor can expand under the drywall!

I also have fiber-reinforced drywall in one wall of my home because I was going to cover with natural stone, which weighted ~80kg/m2. It is very nice and sturdy, but watch out when you want to hang anything from them, you cannot use the cheap nylon drywall anchors. Those just don't work, the drywall is to hard for them and they break before screwing. Use the metal ones or some other kind.
@pauwel2 жыл бұрын
For walls you know you want to hang anything heavy on, you can also add a sheet of OSB behind the dry wall. Then you just put any screw you'd like without any anchors and it will never fail you.
@MiguelCamba2 жыл бұрын
@@pauwel But it's hard to know in advance where you're going to hang stuff. Also, even if OSB is cheap, that would be way more expensive that buying good drywall anchors.
@zooloo732 жыл бұрын
@@MiguelCamba According to Norgips you can screw directly in the Ultraboard. It can even be used instead of OSB, behind other wall boards.

Hi Alex, next time you should spend 1-2 weeks learning the basics of drywall. At first glance, it looks quite alright. But what strikes me directly is the lack of decoupling between the profiles and the wall and floor. Later, the sound is transmitted through the connected profiles. The profiles are not mounted with pressure and tensile stiffness. This means that leaning against them or fixing a cupboard/shelf will be an adventure. Single planking can be done, but this is again a sound insulation issue and also fixing shelves. The biggest mistake, however, will be the lack of insulation protection. We install a vapour barrier (foil) for this. Without it, moisture will seep through the drywall into the insulation. It starts to mould there. In addition, there are some small faults, such as the missing farse on the boards. After filling, you will only be able to remove the transitions with a lot of effort. There are also cracks. You don't join walls like that. The house is working and the drywall will crack. The mix of metal and wood in the substructure also leads to stresses and possibly cracks due to different expansion. Greetings from a German master in drywall construction and acoustics.

I buy, restore and sell buildings every 3 years or so and started with a small house leading to a 5 bedroom house without costing me any more debt, my next move will be last and this will be my 5th house and I will have a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home and my debt should be clear in 14 years since I started and my debt never increased, I kept releasing the equity and reinvesting my profits. When I buy a new house, I concentrate on 1 bathroom and 1 bedroom then sell my old house and move in to complete the renovation. As long as you have a clean bedroom and bathroom it is fairly easy to live in a restoraton project.

Do you put in drywall screws as well? Or just rely on those nails? Also, would it be good to tuck in some of that insulation along the edges of the window before putting up the drywall? Oh, and I might have missed it, but why are you putting up regular dry wall and then the fibre one over top of it? Is that for sound dampening?

Obviously I don't know the layout of the rooms. But it looks like you have way to few power outlets. You always need them in places you haven't though of yet and they are so cheap and easy to add now. Just something to think about for the other side of the apartment. I Denmark, the minimum requirement by law is 1 outlet per started 4m2 and they have to be in different locations. That is the old minimum and it is way to few for a modern apartment

Hi Alex. I'm sorry, but I don't really see the point of those ultraboards, but maybe I'm missing something. From watching the video : 1/ They are freacking heavy 2/ You need (specific ?) powertools The only advantage I see is the thing you use to join the boards, and even that seems to be tideous. Can you explain a bit more why you made this choice, or is it just because it's sponsored content ?
@achappel2 жыл бұрын
You can use screws as well you don't have to use the fancy nail gun :P And yes, they are heavy, but they are also much more durable. and you can hang things right on them with wood screws!
@P1-Engineering2 жыл бұрын
It's a huge difference compared to standard plasterboard. Here in NL we have something called diamond board which has the same qualities I think. It's as hard as a brick wall and also sounds like a solid, plastered wall. Not the cheapish hollow sound you get from the standard board. And it's much more durable.

@@achappel what makes it so the nails don't rust? I thought the reason we use fosfated screws instead of nails is the gypsum makes them rust. Is it because these boards are cement instead?
