I know you probably get this all the time, (but as i sincerly appreciate your videos and your reactions as from being raised in grunge and metal, its interesting to see what other scopes of musical life think about rock) (as a whole). Would you react to the band im vocalist for? See what you think? As someone so esteemed as yourself i personally would find it a privilege to have you do a natural real reaction if you had time to do so and wanted to delve into a wierd side of 'metal'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX2kc2xmrs99ZpI Also sorry not on main youtube account! They're not underrated as they have a significant fan base, and their last concept album wasn't that great and took a very long time to take off so Jack Black had to do a show on his kids youtube just to get anyone to find it because it was released on youtube and for a year or more barely anyone watched it. They're great, but they're rated about where they should be now a days. They're not what this song is as artists anymore. Jack Black is really leaning into being a dad and getting old in ways that make me sad, but that's probably selfish of me. He doesn't really have this level of energy anymore. He hurt himself on Conan practicing for a sketch just running into a doorway. 🤷‍♂️

Fun fact: The microphone Jack is singing into can be clearly seen at 15:26 in the video. It is the broadcast version of the legendary Buchannon Hammer, The Electro Voice 664. The broadcast version has a matte finish so it would not shine in bright camera lights. It had a slightly different model number, the EV 666! We might say, "The Devil's microphone". Only a handful of viewers would have found that little "Easter Egg" but you know darned well, Jack and Kyle knew.

That's partly true. They had a really low budget tv show first, and there is where the characters, some songs and "Tenacious D lore" originally comes from if my memory serves me correct. Copy-paste from wiki. "Tenacious D is a television series that ran on HBO from 1997 to 2000. It features the fictional accounts of the real-life comedy rock duo Tenacious D, which is composed of members Jack Black and Kyle Gass. All of the episodes of the show are available on Tenacious D's The Complete Master Works DVD.[1][2][3][4][5]"

With due respect, at least according to Wikipedia, this song was actually inspired by Metallica's song, "One"...although the compositional similarities to Stairway are quite obvious. Wikipedia is user-edited and fluid. However, the reference to the song "One" with regard to this TD tune has endured on Wikipedia's description and back story of "Tribute" for at least 7 years. So I'm left with the impression that, although the song is obviously Zeppelin-derivative, it is actually dedicated to Metallica's "One". Were TD's comments regarding this song satirical? I'm not even sure en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribute_(song)

I believe the "Fliggo-giggoo" a cappella part is a reference to the Kansas song "Miracles Out of Nowhere" on Leftoverture. It matches the synth riff pretty well. I love their references to 80s hair-metal and 70s art-rock groups. Magical.

The allusions to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven in this song (in both the lyrics and the harmonies/chords) are genius. Makes me think they want to hint that that's the best song in the world. ;)

Allegedly the actual "greatest song in the world," that this is supposed to be a Tribute to, despite the allusions to Stairway to Heaven, is One by Metallica.

In the original version, they play the stairway riff. I heard at the time that Zepplin's lawyers were not happy.

I would LOVE to see you do a tea time interview with Jack and maybe with Kyle too. Jack is such an understanded vocalist - whether it's singing or (voice) acting, he truly has honed his instrument in ways I feel like a lot of people take for granted/just don't understand the skill and effort that goes into it.

This is one of my all-time favorite albums & personally one of the best albums ever made in the history of music! 🔥 It has everything, rock, blues, classical guitar, a great hook and the music itself is freaking fantastic! Then you add in these lyrics that are just totally off the wall, crazy but super funny! I just love the way they put their music together, It's so unique and one of a kind 🔥❤️💯

This song is the perfect child of Stairway to Heaven and The Devil Went Down to Georgia. The ending arpeggio is right out of Stairway, as is the song Kickapoo. Dave Grohl in Foo Fighters plays guitar, writes, sings, and of course he's a drummer. Between Nirvana and Fighters, he once composed and recorded an album in days all by himself, and performed every part. Voice and instruments. The man is something else.
