My favorite troupe is an anti-trope when basically in a media there is an established bunch of tropes and then theres a character or thing that completely shales all those tropes up with either a whole different set of tropes or an awareness of the tropes Imagine there's this super powerful magic guy and then there's this sci-fi fighting machine and there's just an insane contrast

The manhwa The Knight King Who Returned with A God has this. The setting of the world is that Earth has become linked with various fantasy worlds with orcs, dragons and demons and humans cross through the portals to defeat them before they invade. At one point they cross over into a super advanced civilization where instead of fighting the usual they come across a super advanced enemy mech called JAGD Spinner whose last command was to defend the now fallen civilization. Also check out Versus by Yusuke Murata, the whole manga is built on this anti trope.

Not just in anime, in fiction. This trope is really great because makes the villain special. It can be used to show a villain's growth while allowing you to root for them. Like Shigaraki vs Redestro where we see the man child from S1 grow into a nuclear threat. Or reestablish how goated the long time villain is. Like Megatron vs Insecticon or Megatron vs D-void. Because Megatron is a long time villain and rarely has W's again Prime, him going up against other villains in the story to show that he is still the biggest threat in the story while you get to root for the Gladiator of kaon is truly badass Or in rare cases, known the villain down a few pegs. Like Homelander vs Soldier boy. After watching Homelander dominate encounters for 2 seasons straight, seeing him on the back foot scared for his life was great.

Not really an anime, but Star Wars the Clone Wars series has several instances of this trope. Chief among them was when Darth Sidious pulled up on Mandalore and had a 2v1 fade against Maul and Savage. The brothers' little criminal regime wasn't affiliated with the Separatist or Republic factions, they weren't in the know about Palpatine's proxy war takeover scheme either. Old man was chuckling throughout the fight, didn't even perceive them as a real threat. He literally showed up and mopped the floor with them both for no reason other than because he could(and the Sith's rule of two).

For the plot's sake, either villain could easily win and it wouldn't destroy the plot because the hero must have a villain. You basically get rid of plot armor and give the winner and loser a chance to grow stronger which then means the hero gets weaker as everyone else grows. At the same time it gives character development for both villains.

You are gonna DIE when the monster association ARC of OPM gets to full swing. (And so will the animators the stuff Murata made was not intended to be animated by mortal hands) Edit2: I think it adds to the fight that having 2 villains you actually dont know whos gonna win as the story can go on without either or both and that raises the stakes, they can also be straight up DEVIOUS in their attacks/moves and its ok cause they are the bad guys they dont need to be nice about it. My favorite trope funnily enough is probably "Old Guy thats more powerful than the protagonist so the villain has to cheat against him" I like it when the protagonist is super strong... But this one guy who actually has been in the business is stronger and more experience, I feel like it grounds the story somehow, it reinforces the whole idea that the protagonist put in the work to get strong so this guys who has done it for longer has it even more: Yamamoto from Bleach held that spot until he died and Beerus from Dragon Ball super does it for me. Edit: I also really like Gojo for this reason, hes on the younger side but technically hes the mentor not the protagonist, so this whole "Why doesnt the teacher do it?" And then Gojo shows up and does it and the villains whole deal is dealing with him while the protagonist rises beyond the villains expectation

I'd say my favorite trope is playing into a trope, and then subverting it. Example, when Renji and Ichigo attack Aizen in the Soul Society arc, they plan their attack, Ichigo's theme swells and he charges in. You think "oh yeah here we fuckin go" only for Aizen to stop his attack with ease, the music cuts (and never plays again), and Ichigo almost dies instantly. The use of tropes to make our minds go to the right when the writers are about to go left always mezmerizes me.
