@MrCed1222 жыл бұрын
I was really close to buying it when the preorders began, all my infos were entered and I only needed to confirm and... I didn't. I already have a Pocket 2 and Pocket 2+ (the Upgrade Kit to be more specific) and while the price is really fair for what you get, paying almost $200 CAD for what is essentially the same handheld I already have with a bigger screen was tough sell, especially since we'll probably get a Pocket 3+ in a few months. The screen resolution is also really weird, it can't scale anything cleanly, you'll get black bars or non-integer scaling on every consoles. If that came out at the same time as the Pocket 2+ like it was supposed to, it would've been a no-brainer, but with so much more competition like the RG353P, the "incoming" Ayn Loki Zero and the Odin Lite (which, granted, isn't readily available yet), it's in a weird spot where you can get basically the same for cheaper and a lot better for not that much more. It's a good middle ground if you're getting into the scene, but for the others, it doesn't make much sense. Instead of that, I bought an RG351V on sale for $110 CAD to replace my RG351P and I'll wait for the next Retroid Pocket that will hopefully be able to play more Android games and PS2/GC for real (or buy the Miyoo P60 if that thing ever come out). I also set up my old Huawei P20 with a Razer Kishi, it works fine, the only problem is it doesn't have the best GPU, so PS2 / GC is still kinda difficult and the battery life is kinda atrocious.

The included Dolphin for Handhelds and the latest version of AetherSX2 let you lower the resolution below 1x. This can make games playable but you will be compromising visuals. Many PS2 titles end up looking like PS1 games but you can still enjoy them. I do find it funny that the Retroid Pocket 3 was made before the Retroid Pocket 2+. Makes you wonder if the fix for the RP3 screen issues was so simple why didn't they just fix it and release it. Surely that would have been no more expensive than creating the RP2+.
@elemkay51042 жыл бұрын
There have been massive improvements to AetherSX2. One game that got tested last year on RP2+ (Godhand) getting like 3-5 fps, is now running 20+ fps at full resolution and is fully playable. But for sure you can also drop the resolution for more demanding games.

Gonna be a while at this price range. But if you want to blow the smallest amount of money on the widest range of playable systems, go for a Miyoo Mini. I love mine more than my Retroid Pocket 2+. The RP2+ was almost unusable for me until I found a different front-end launcher (Daijisho) and broke in the rubber buttons a bit. Otherwise, I was dealing with constant crashes and a set of buttons that wore my hands out because it required a pound of pressure from my thumb to do a running jump in any game I was playing. The Miyoo barely required any config and let me pick-up-and-play far, far easier than the RP2+ ever has let me.

I have the 2+ and ordered the 3 last night. The 2+ is spectacular for $100. My only two nit-picks are with the screen. It is absolutely perfect for 8 bit games and even 16 bit, but it is brutally small for anything high-res. Forget about cloud gaming unless hooked up to an external monitor. The screen is unmercifully small for ultra small text, menus, icons, etc in modern games. It is punishing to try and squint at hi-res games on the 3.5" screen. Again...for retro consoles with big blocky pixels, it's perfect. The second nit-pick is that the screen doesn't dim NEARLY enough. It is torture trying to play in bed or a dimly lit room. The lowest brightness is still blinding in the dark. That coupled with trying to play hi-res games...it's a nightmare. Again, outstanding for low-res games in a normally lit environment. I'm hoping the Pocket 3 with its larger screen will make hi-res gaming much more palatable, and if it actually dims properly, that'd be icing on the cake.

While leaving my main system alone. This just works better to me. The button placement doesn’t bother me so much since I just need something that can easily play older DS games and it has a little bigger of a screen which I like. 8/10 this is gonna be my new emulator. i have one.. really nice quality and screen plays everything perfect til dreamcast but psp games outrun2006 need to be 1x resolution to play without frameskip(which sucks on quality) but you can play on 2x resolution with frameskip on if you want , and plays decent

I have a steam deck but a retro pocket emulator would be nice for snes and older and maybe 2D PS1 games but I'd like it to be in the GBA form factor like the retroid but around $80 or less. Doesn't really need to analog sticks but I'm not sure

Nice video, could you do one where you highlight the retro games that you can't live without?

Couldn’t find a Steam Deck so got a Samsung S8 Plus tablet with the SnapDragon 8 chip. It can emulate PS2, GameCube & Wii (about 80% of GC & Wii games well so far. All with some fps & performance drops), 3DS, and everything below. Including Sega Saturn. Until I get a Steam Deck, it’s my emulation platform of choice. Plus, with a USB-C to USB-B 3.0 adapter, you can hook up pretty much any USB device, like external hard drives, keyboards, etc.

I got an email that my RP3 and case are on the way. 2nd Thumb stick and the larger screen are what sold me over the 2+. Now if my AYN Odin Pro could ship soon 🤞🤞🤞

heard you talk about never hearing ppl talk about ring fit but like you said its one of the best games i played on te switch so far and i played more ten 50 games on switch in a year time playing ring fit is a big help when i coulnd not jump on my bike becous of injeries and stil work out while gaming, with personal exprianse i can say this is a game that wil 100% improve your health with playing a game ( if you use it 1,2 hours a day)

Whats up, love the channel! So which would you use as number one? This or the analog pocket? I imagine this one is much cheaper than the AP. Sounds like it has some issues and not sure how infeel about the dice roll on the screen. Perhaps modding a 3ds is still high on my list.

The retro handheld market is bizarre. This is one of the most bizarre to me, I have Taki Udon telling me this isn't a good one and he skipped it and now I have Bob Wulff telling me it's great.... What the hell do I do in this situation???

Mod a vita

Adding a second to modding a Vita. The Vita is probably the best handheld Nintendo should have made but didn't. Barring that, there's nothing like playing on original hardware. I like the Vita because it has solid hardware and a loooooong battery life. Vita can play MOST Nintendo consoles but anything with Mode7 tends to chug, so for those games I prefer to go to my 2DS LL. I have the Black/Blue 2DS LL modded and loaded up with games (digital versions of games I own) and it's a dream. The only benefit to a dedicated emulation machine is that you don't have to do any legwork yourself on modding a device, but the original hardware is almost always a more satisfying experience.

I want the Miyoo mini since it’s so small I can slip it in my pocket and play it at school without getting in trouble (not during class) but should I just fork up the extra money to buy the retroid or should I stick with the Miyoo I can’t decide if it’ll be worth it
@alexbeaird72902 жыл бұрын
I've already got a RP2 (not the plus). I won't consider getting a new device until one of these companies makes something that can play GameCube for less than 100 dollars. But even then I've switched over to using my phone for emulation and that is even better than the best, most expensive options on the market.

Would you recommend something like this for someone who doesn't know anything about emulators? Or perhaps something better and user friendly?
