6:33 Crazy-eyed Donald is from Mickey and the Beanstalk (1947). On the Genie topic, I agree that Robin Williams made the character iconic but it would not be a dealbreaker to have him voiced by another actor. Dan Castellaneta, who has voiced Genie before, is a professional voice actor and does a good job with the voice.

I’m also confused by the Genie hate bc as a 90’s kid I LOVED the animated series and that wasn’t voiced by Robin Williams, so as long as the voice is good it would still be Genie to me.

MrStarInSky I agree with you about giving characters a chance! Honestly, I feel people should care less about a character’s voice and more about the fact that they’ve been added to DDLV. People will always have something to complain about and it’s unrealistic to think the same voices can be used for DDLV characters because those voice actors have aged and some have passed. All the negativity can at times be a buzz kill to the game and here’s hoping it turns more positive! 👍🏻⭐️

In regards to Genie, I think it'd be sadder to see the character fade away from modern disney due to the absence of his original voice actor. Mickey has been voiced by numerous actors over the years, as well as several other classic characters. Plus let's be real, even if Robin Williams were alive, he would not have agreed to do Dreamlight Valley. They could not afford him.

Genie is in Disney Speed Storm voiced by Jim Meskimen according to the games IMDB page so if he ever came to Dreamlight Valley it would probably be the same voice

My thing now is that the devs aren't being consistent or communicating when making the characters. The Beast literally has two contradictory lines that he's said one right after another in my game. When it rains, he has a line about enjoying the rain, then in a text box he says he HATES the rain....WHICH IS IT??

there was a voice actor for the aladdin tv show. that person was fine. i want to say he was from simpsons, but its been ages since i watched that. a new voice actor can be done, and done well. no one will ever be the same as Robbin Williams, and i dont think this game could have afforded him, anyway. i dont know that id want genie in the valley, with the repetitive dialogue and limitations. i think itd be a let down.

The Moana dress color change is a crime against humanity!! That was the only dress I ever used back then but had to change cause I didn't like the new one 😢Also, Robin Williams seem to be ahead of the times. These days we have concerns about AI using people's voices for everything without permission. However, back then I thought companies just owned the recorded voices. It seems odd that they would need people to re-record voices for this game. The characters barely talk so I thought the audio was just ripped from the movies/shows lol.

I haven't watched Alladin but from the few clips I've watched Genie looks like a fun character. Also Eric is playing with his life going after Belle. Also yes the photo at 12:27 is GENIUS. Looks great too

Robbin Williams came back for film 3: "Aladdin and the King of Thieves". Jasmine and Aladdin get married and Robbin Williams is back voicing Genie! Apparently, the 2nd film is kind of a segway into the tv series.

There may be a generation issue with the genie opinions. Those of us who grew up watching and loving Robin Williams in all he did, including genie, have a tough time watching his work. Not because we hate him or refuse to hear anybody but him voice genie. We don’t want genie because even after 9 years it still hurts to have lost him.

I was okay with Beast before, but after they got in DDV, I grew more and more disgusted by him, I hated how he was always roaring with rage to my face and then was like "I can't control, I'm a victim, please, help me" like he wasn't a futile person before, not that was his fault, it's just that he's not an angel. And I think most of my hate is because of PTSD. My dad was violent when I was a child, and in front of others, he acted like he was the best father of all. This also makes me hate Donald tantrums, but just that, not the character itself.

In general, people are going to complain no matter what. people weren’t happy with how Belle looks so I’m not surprised about the reactions to the whole Robin Williams-Genie voice thing. I love Robin Williams and that he did the voice for Genie. But he also did not do the voice for Genie on Kingdom Hearts. it did not make me hate the game any less or didn’t make me not want to play or progress through the game. I think some people just are sticklers for certain things. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Exactly! Robin Williams will always be the reason Genie is the great character he is. That was all his improv, but for a video game where the character says only a few lines I’m fine with someone else voicing Genie as long as he sounds close enough - which the guy who took over in Aladdin 2 and the show does

7:27 that post makes zero sense. Most of the original character voices are in the game. Disney/gameloft are not going to pay most a-list actors going rate for a couple small lines in a video game. So no, I doubt Robin William’s voice would be used. Lastly if they did use it, it would need to be with permission from his estate, they could never just use it without permission.

I thought that too when I originally opened it. There are areas that are blocked off so makes sense villains would be in there - only so many places to hide them in the Valley since they don’t seem to come through opening realms in the dreamlight castle

I don't think Genie should be excluded. Robin Williams was awesome in the role but I also think it can be done. Dan Castellaneta last voices Genie in 2005... But he's an awesome voice actor so he might be terrific. I really hope the voice actor is good. I was excited for Vanellope as I love the character in the Wreck It Ralph movies. But the voice actress is so clearly not Sarah Silverman and is missing what makes her a great character. Every time I hear Vanellope speak in the Valley, I want to throttle her! It's like nails on a chalk board for me.

I keep reading that the daughter wouldn't let anyone use his voice. Not to sound rude, but I don't understand why. If she's getting paid for it, what's the reason to not do it? My dad passed away and I miss him so much. If people wanted to pay me to hear his voice on a bunch of stuff, I'd do it. I'd probably do it for free too! I can understand not wanting to license it out for something like commercials but for an iconic character he portrayed that people love, I don't know.

It's not impossible to use his voice just because he's dead, in fact it may be easier depending on who controls his copyright stuff now. Look at Paul Walker they "physically" put him in a movie after his death, not to mention all the holograms of dead people. Just a voice is far easier then all of that especially in this game that's not fully voiced where they only use a few short sound bits.
