He's slowly becoming Etho. First you just mess around with some building (preferably interiors), then you never finish them even remotely. All the while you keep expanding your chest monster camp site, which is also effectively your actual "base". And then you play around with redstone and do fun stuff with other hermits! Whooopps end of season, oh well.

to answer your question: at least for me, bamboo is irritating for my ocd. I also don't love that grass and dirt have randomized texture rotations now, but luckily as long as I don't stare at either issue too long it doesn't bother me overmuch. now, y'all's chestmonsters on the other hand, those make me want to offer cleaning lad services myself LMAO (this is all lighthearted, I learned to look away from the screen when someone has a chestmonster ages ago)

Doc builds big stuff, but it's usually not bad for lag, since most lag is from mobs, item entities, hoppers, and hopper minecarts. Stress' hopper wheat farm and iskall's whole item entity tube system are big lag sources comparatively.

Stress has ~128 hoppers in that farm and Cléo built the same. The creeper farm and slime farms combined must have 100 hoppers too. All replacable by 4 minecart dispensed on a clock. That bamboo farm has 14 hopper minecart that could be replaced by cart yeeting mechanics. It's not the amount of farms it's their design.

Just an idea but since you've already got a bit of a chest monster, would it be an idea to just embrace it entirely & make an autocrafter where you shoot up the crafted bamboo planks, let them fall into hoppers on the ground, autocraft chests & 'feed' (transport) them to the chest monster (a bit similar in appearance to Tango's Double Creeper Cannon in season 7, but picturing it with a stream of chests running into the mouth of a bigger Chester, if it helps visualize)? Where it's toggleable to be turned on or off to minimize lag & because you probably don't need 300 shulkers worth of chests. I hope that makes sense. 😂

I love seeing the bit more R&D-ey redstone building! I hate being a bit of a backseat captain, though, but one of the things that really revolutionised these farms for me is the fact that minecarts aside from getting dispensed, now can be broken and kept in their shape. You could build a machine that flies a minecart against an amethyst crystal, with a cauldron under the rail for the block before the amethyst. Both the intact minecart hopper and the contents will be yeeted in the cauldron, where you can just bulk the bamboo in a water stream. All you need to do is 'filter' the minecarts for recycling (they'll stay minecart hoppers), which is something allays could do, or another contraption. Or just brute-force "need 20 hoppers to pick up all the burst bamboo, 21st will only have minecarts" itemfilters. I'm a huge fan of minecart auto-break/dispensing. Especially because when running a long time they just feel more reliable than the massive series of minecart loaders that for some reason always glitch, inexplicably stand still, or other...

Damn right the shopping is about the fun. But the diamond competition is part of the fun. And PROFIT is part of the fun. Otherwise you can just go around and give stuff away. You can display gained diamonds to flex etc. but if you make a shop that loses diamonds (cub is absolutely heading there with his fireworks that may consume diamonds to make)... That would make it un-fun for me I think

i have always thought this but the whole point of shops goes away because everyone makes there own farms by the time its becoming easier to make too so everyone does. i know it would be inconvinient for eveyone to be forced to shop for eveything and some might not have enough to but from profit from there own shops but i feel like shops need to be prioritized more. kinda like the old seasons (i think season 6-7)

I don't know why but when you said you had an idea for a minigame on the server with a unique take, I immediately had an idea for a guess, based on where I feel like your thought process would have gone from the shopping conversation, so here's my guess/idea: It's to game-ify trading between players, both players wager a collection of valuable items and they proceed to play (something) in which when a player wins a point/round/etc, they get a random item or stack from the collective wagered items, and the game ends once all items have been distributed between the two players. If you're really good at this theoretical game, you could basically hustle other players out of their stuff by wagering really valuable items or lots of diamonds, as long as you keep winning.

To be honest, I do think at some point hermitcraft could try adding minigames to the world that are available from the start and only thing you need to do is unlock them with a group of people. As much as I enjoy hermitcraft sticking to vanilla, I think there's something to be said about giving players opportunity to experience something small scale. Something that activates periodiclly so people don't spend all their hours there, but also doesn't directly conflict with the vanilla gameplay. But this would reequire alot of programming skills and system to be set-in for the server. I know how much the hermits appreciate and value the vanilla experience, but for players that eventually hit the "end" so to speak and find it hard to get motivated, it would be great to have something small scale for those hermits. Small adventures and such. I think alot of hermits seek that when they go explore for the first time in the nether or the end and there's exitement for those, but eventually those aspects become less interesting because you no longer need anything from them. I think Vault hunters has a good idea with the portals, but is way too large scale for hermitcraft, but having a smaller version of that for players would add a bit of exitement when-ever they are available and viewers don't have to go watch a different series from hermitcraft. One of the main reasons I watch hermitcraft these days is the people, all of the hermits being so social and having fun together. So it is a bit sad when it's clear some of the hermits need a bit more than doing some automatic farms all season.
