cubs "new bird things" are only not following him becaus they get constantly rebound to their noteblock. Yours will try and follow you as long as they have an item in their hand, which you gave them. this sometimes makes them break the lead, because they try to follow you so badly (also their AI is surprisingly good at following a player, they can find their way out of caves and stuff)

you should build an automated system somewhere in the neighborhood that drops diorite for your allay to burn occasionally, and then hook it up to your alarm system to ensure that stress and ren have to stock the diorite to avoid the alarm going off

Doc said they shouldn't die because they heal more then fire damages, but then because of server something something, they did die. However that was when they were stuck in a 1x1x1 fire block so they were 24/7 on fire, I guess it'll be fine if they just occasionally catch on fire.

Dig down 5 blocks; put a double observer clock, then a note block, then a player head, then a piece of burning netherack - the player head makes it so you can’t hear the lot lock but they still can, and you can bury it to there is only one flame instead of 5 - they also aim for the top of the note block not the sides so if it is buried it will be more efficient

i think having it hidden under the square+4pillars would be cooler; note block with fire ontop in the centre, droppers between each pillar, redstone clock activating the droppers and note block so it has a (tribal?) beat. 'diorite' marked chest added to the front corner of the storage area that feeds into the droppers via an underground system and a comparitor to turn off everything if the system is empty. perfect party piece for guests coming over that may wonder why iskall has a chest dedicated to diorite. also, greed jnr needs a brother called IsGood collecting diamond ore/blocks

I think during Doc's first episode of this season, he demonstrated an allay being used as an item filter in a storage system. And you've seen their use case for something like squid ink.

Doc discovered that player heads on top of the note blocks make the note blocks silent while still refreshing the allays' memory. Also, you can make a "tube" of trap doors above note blocks to make allays drop items onto something besides the note block.

I have a 2-chunk-by-1-chunk bamboo farm with 4 allays enclosed in it, a note block in the wall above a water stream across some hoppers at one end, and a flying machine harvester, and the four allays can hoover up a fully-grown harvest and drop it all off at the note block faster than the hoppers can keep up with them. They're a great alternative to laying out tons of minecart rails, making sure you have enough minecarts, building the unloaders, making sure they don't get stuck, making sure you don't end up with bamboo stuck on top of the harvester or on top of grown stalks…absolutely a viable collection method for any farm that involves picking up scattered item drops.

The allays can break their leads in their efforts to follow you. If you want to keep them in a location, it's best to either set up an occasionally pulsed note block, or remove their item if you want to keep them on a lead (although they'll just mope and sound all sad after you do that), or just put them in a boat (which is easy to do if you chunk their respective items at a boat).

One piece of information was wrong: They can *not* be hurt by their owner, but by everyone else. Further summary: The become yours if you give them an item. You can change ownership by taking the item (with empty hand), then giving one again. If they hear a noteblock, they stay near and drop items there for the next 30 seconds. Otherwise they stay near their owner and drop items on them. They only pick up items of the type they are holding. Can be used to sort non-stackables from item steams. With no item, they have no owner and wander randomly (don't do that, they easily fly away).

you need multiple to keep up with a bambo farm but the allays are a great alternative for item collection in situations where normal item collection is very difficult. But they are much much laggier than hopper minecrats. Also they wont die from most damage sources the only real danger is lava and other large damage sources. They out heal fire and most other damage sources, which doc used for a very inhumane trash can. But they can actually die if there are large lag spikes. (Doc found out the hard way.)
