I learned about the CAGED System very early in my playing and I can say that it unlocked the fretboard and took my soloing to a new level in fact it established the foundations and capability of soloing for me. Great video thank you Mr. Papa!

Great to see a shout out for Keith Scott. One of the most tasteful players of all time in my opinion. Guys like him and Mike Campbell don't get mentioned enough alongside the other greats. I also don't get the embarrassment some people have with saying they like Adams. I grew up on Bryans music and he's one of my absolute favourites. I went to see him and Keith last year and they were phenomenal. Bryans voice is holding up unbelievably well.

i'm self-taught and naturally discovered this early on in my development. seeing chord clusters and triads all over the neck is a game changer and helps play more melodic lines. i don't have naturally dexterous hands and i'll never master it, but this is a GREAT video and help to me. thanks!

And then there's the notes on the B string, my favorite for starting a solo. It's actually easy to remember the B string notes, because they go in the same order as piano white keys . . . C-1 . . . D-3 . . . E-5, followed by F-6 . . . G-8 . . . A-10 . . . and B-12th fret! That's my mental trick anyway.
@BrettPapa3 ай бұрын
Good trick! Never even thought of it that way! But it seems like it should be so obvious. I'm gonna steal that trick haha!

So there is a lot of videos about mixing major & minor... but that can only be used over like Dom7 chord vibes (Blues, Country etc). Is that correct? This type of progression is not really for that? Like regular rock type progressions with Major & Minor chords don't seem to work with that. Thanks! That guitar is a beauty!
@BrettPapa3 ай бұрын
No depending on the progression you can sneak that stuff in. Check out some of the mixing major and minor videos on the channel or if you want a deep dive I have an entire course breaking it down at brettpapa.com.

I always played by ear. Im self taught 35yrs now. It has worked fine so far, but I want to go back and learn what it is Ive been doing, why, and how it works, and open up what I can do. I dont regret going the hard way no lessons, hands on, it helped me find my own voice. But. I want to know now.. I learned a lot of what I was doing was relative minor, and using minor and major scale licks as well. But leaning heavy into relative minor. It has worked really well so far. Theres so much to learn. Im shocked how much I always thought I did wrong, but I was doing it right the whole time, and had no idea. Music is never ending… ✌🏻
