50% OFF MIXING MAJOR AND MINOR COURSE HERE! SALE ENDS Wed. AT MIDNIGHT: www.brettpapa.com/mixing-majo...
Jam Track Link Here: www.brettpapa.com/mixing-majo...
In today's lesson we go over the final piece to making mixing major and minor #pentatonic #scales on #guitar come together. So far we have spiced up our typical minor box adding the major 3rd and the flat 5. Next we fused our major and minor pentatonic boxes together. Finally in today's video we learn how to spot chord tones in our scales so we can actually make melodic solos people can remember. After all if you can't play melodically you end up just running through scales with no purpose. Lots of diagrams and a jam track are included and will help you hammer down this concept so you will be well on your way to memorable pentatonic solos that mix major and minor scales. Endless opportunities will be at your fingertips so get ready to blast out of your rut and play solos you will be proud of!

Hey thanks for the reminder of the greatness of Schon! I was into Journey on the first couple of records, before Rolie and Dunbar left, lost the buzz by the time Stone in Love came out. You forced me to give it a listen, and so glad I did! I still find the song as atrocious as all the rest of that power-pop era noise, but there is no arguing Schon's phrasing, that tone cutting thru. Those are terrific solos. I mean, the guy was trading solo's with Carlos when he was a teenager, so..there's that. Really appreciate your teaching. Great lesson, thank you!

I thought a perm was a method to manifest curls in one's hair. But in this context it doesn't make sense. My other context is the badass song: never fight a man with a perm. Which I thought was kind of odd. I wonder what a perm really is now. But this journey through different contexts is also really fun. I will enjoy the ride. Now back to CAGED and Blues.

In that first example you do at 5:45, you do a really cool move with 2 quick slides down into a pull off to finish the riff in that lower position. I loved that, any way you could loosely describe that move? Thanks for the lesson, you do fun stuff here

I've purchased the course but still wanted to go through these KZbin lessons. Interested to know where your head is at with your example. e.g. when your playing over D major at 5th fret are you thinking : 1) Maintain Am Pattern 1 as your 'base'. Find D chord shape notes and overlay extra notes from pattern 5. 2) Shift to Pattern 5 as your 'base'. Find D chord shape and add some notes from pattern 1 as 'flavour'. Appreciate that eventually they are the same notes, but more interested how you approach it mentally/visually. At the moment I do a bit of both; think if I'm starting with a melody I work with option 1 (in the key) - but if I start with a chord shape in a progression I'll go option 2. Feel like I'm not doing either well though and wondered how you approach it. Thanks 🤟

I can't wait for the video where you explain why you have 2 Ox Boxes turned on 🙃

Both amps are plugged into them. I always keep them both on so I don't accidentally blow a transformer forgetting to turn one of them on. .

@@BrettPapa Does anyone make a Y-splitter cable / adaptor for speaker cables, so you could plug them both into one Ox and sell the other one...?

BRETT, Try to make a Warren DeMartini phrasing concept lesson because he uses mixolydian dominant chord tones. You only showed major chord tones and minor chord tones but Demartini uses Dominant chord tones. I think i know what you're trying to say as adding the bVII chord tones into your major pentatonic and minor pentatonic licks = Mixolydian mode. But what chord tones can you add to make it sound Dorian, lydian, phrygian,? It seems to mean when adding the b5 blues note in the major pentatonic and minor pentatonic licks = lydian mode? but you have to add the chord tones of which chord to make it sound like the lydian mode?

@@BrettPapa when playing minor blues progressions or major blues progressions you can play the outside notes from the parallel minor and parallel major mode. in the key of A minor blues , the outside notes from A major are C#, F#,G# and the outside notes from C MINOR are Eb,Ab,Bb but if you can show in a video lesson on how to use these outside notes in a minor blues progression and also in a major blues progression. I know you have shown how to use A major pentatonic but you can also use C MINOR have has outside notes Eb,Ab,Bb.

Something that happens to me a lot is that I play on the pentatonic major and minor and I emphasize the notes of the chord without thinking about visualizing the notes using caged, I do it by ear and then I analyze it and in most cases I rest on a tonic of the chord or on a fifth or third, it is difficult for me playing and visualizing and thinking about the change, it comes out more naturally to me doing it by ear
@BrettPapa
@BrettPapa Жыл бұрын
Yeah if your ear is good enough you don't really need much else unless you want to understand why it all works. I know tons of fantastic ear only players.
