Billy Kimber is the most real person from the series, and a lot of Thomas Shelby's story arcs from season 1 to 3 follow the pattern of the real Kimber's life. But even Kimber never made it as far up as the fictional Thomas Shelby.

What do you mean, "the most real person"? Oswald Mosley was a real person, and the actor played him brilliantly. The show depicted him very accurately. He also had a lot more screen time than Billy Kimber.

My understanding is that the fictional Shelby family had some Romani blood (genetically different than Irish) and had also come out of the Irish Traveler community (genetically Irish). Such mixing was not especially common. Not an expert, but I believe the Romani gypsies probably had more mystical, occultist beliefs, but the Irish in general had no shortage of superstitions and supernatural beliefs as well. (Big on curses, for sure.) There's a couple/few vids on YT that get into that. Here's one that really goes into details for 1.5 hours: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5yUdId4q5p1irs

"They used assaults, beatings, stabbings, and manual stranglings to commit pickpocketing" like yeah okay bruv, it's not pickpocketing if the victim knows about it, and I'm sure getting sucker punched will give them a pretty good idea they're getting pickpocketed😂

Amazing series. They fucked it up with the last season though. It was rushed, short, and anticlimactic.

The only city not ‘taken’ by the Birmingham gang. They tried several times but no joy. I heard the distance - religious fervency too - was also impediment.
