One of my biggest takeaways from this episode is that Greef is the canon version of legends Lando. He’s gone into a respectable business with mining and trade, which reminds me a lot of how Lando is in the Thrawn trilogy

that's exactly what i believe happened. Grogu should have stayed with Luke for a while and spun-off their own show focusing on Grogu as his first student at his Jedi Academy. Also i didn't like Favreau saying that Grogu has spent 2 years training with Luke on Ossus. BS that hasn't been 2 whole years! Only seemed like a few months. I think that Favreau was saying as if to say - "look see? Grogu has spent a fair bit of time training with Luke. Now he's ready to come back to papa Din." Which is Not satisfying at all because it's all off-screen. Also i think having Grogu and Mando separated for a while brings some nice character development for them both, like finding themselves going off on their own separate journeys for abit; no one has said it had to be forever (accept out-of-character Luke). Otherwise now it is at risk of the Mandalorian just becoming - "the Baby Yoda & Mando Show".

@@mpnuorva I do agree it's different with droids. I think what bothers me a bit about this one is IG-11's death was so much more meaningful than R2 in ep4, and R2 was immediately repaired so it was never set up to be anything remotely permanent. On top of that why not rebuild IG-11 immediately? Din knows he'd be incredibly useful, he knows Grogu needs protecting, why wait until now? @@AndreNitroX Grogu just ruined this episode for me, like why the fuck is this baby back and why is mando just ok with getting into dangerous situations with the baby, in s1&2, the baby was here because mando had no other safe place to put him in, i remember in the 4th episode where mando tried to let him settle down with peaceful farmers and live a happy life, only for a hunter to find him and for him to realise that he *has* to keep moving, getting into danger all the while having the baby with him in all the danger, as the baby is only safe with mando Well no, apparently mando doesnt care anymore, he's just aggressively engaging a squad of shoehorned in pirates in a starfighter he barely knows how to pilot, and risking the safety of grogu for no reason nor necessity, what happened to getting grogu back to his people being the objective of mando? Even if grogu is now apparently a ""mandalorian"", mando is being an irresponsible adult and this isnt the same guy from seasons 1&2, this guy gets into unnecessary fights with pirates in a starfighter (he couldve jumped at any point, but chose to engage for no reason), He's learnt nothing about how the "helmet on" rule is just a superstition, and he's actually gonna go bath in some beskar bathj water or smth idc, i though it was just a line thrown into bobf that meant to say "yea no the cultalorians arent accepting you back", but no madnos actually gonna go bathe in some beskar ground water, thats the dumbest thing mando couldve done out of all the things that couldve been how the season opened Still holding out some hope, but if the season opening is a sign to show whats to come, im gonna be really sad

One thirty minute episode is not enough to showcase Grogu. Also, I feel like Grogu doing something dramatic is something we're all going to have to wait for. You're right. He shouldn't be back. But Favreau and Filoni were both pretty obviously painted into a corner by Bob Iger, in this case, and HAD to bring him back. Lucasfilm is desperate, and Kathleen Kennedy still calls the shots. It's not hard to put two and two together, in this case.

How is it that his head & chest survived the explosion but most of the limbs are gone instead? That discrepancy aside I think the quest is a good place to start the ball rolling, I'm going to guess it'll be resolved by the end of the next episode and we'll have a new directive leading into the third ep. I said this yesterday, that as "Season Premiers" go, this episode fell way short of the standards that I usually expect from them. That being said, it was still a pretty good episode, and it does set up A LOT, that I expect us to get into. Also, the fact that Cara Dune was brought up at all, and NOT declared dead by the cast of the show, makes me think that Favreau and Filoni are BENDING OVER BACKWARDS to try and work that character back into the show, eventually. All the rumors that Kathleen Kennedy is leaving in a few months might not simply be rumors. And maybe we can't get Cara Dune back until KK, and her minions, are officially out the door. In any case, I feel like we will see Cara Dune once again, in the future. Maybe not this season, but certainly in Season 4. And it will be a SURPRISE! That's my big pronouncement of the week, anyway. All I will close with is the hope that future episodes of this season will be quite a bit longer than simply 30 minutes (that ain't right!)...

I really agree, and I'll go further - this episode was really quite meh IMO. The (very strange) decision to plonk a couple of Mando episodes into Fett is looking stranger and stranger, especially when you consider that those two episodes would've been a brilliant way to start off this series. A half-an-hour show rehashing plot points (essentially an extended trailer or recap) really shouldn't have been made. Yet another strange decision by Feloni/Favreaux and the Disney higher-ups. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series once it settles down, and no doubt it was good to see Mando and Grogu again (and I loved what Greef has done with Nevarro), but a couple of things annoyed me: yet more pirates (cheap-looking pirates at that), another side quest to go with the redemption quest, and quite inelegant storytelling and dialogue. I will also say this about Mando's redemption quest... it's not quite hitting right with me just yet. Mando is so independent, coming and going as he pleases, I wonder why he's so hung up on redeeming himself in the waters of the mines of Mandalore. Aaanyway, looking forward to debating the rest of the season!

It's finally here! A new season of The Mandalorian! Great review, Thor. You've summed everything up really well. I did love this episode, it was lots of fun. But you're absolutely right about how it feels a bit slow compared to the Mando episodes of Book of Boba Fett. In a way it feels like the current story started a year ago and now its doing it again, like shooting the starting pistol twice. But I did love every minute of it. The beginning faked me out, because I thought it was a flashback to Din's original baptism, until that moment where it looks like all hope is lost - and then BOOM - real Din shows up to bomb the crocaturtle. That was pretty darn cool. But why did the Covert settle on a planet with giant predators roaming around? Are they still hiding, or do they actually like to be in constant danger? It was nice to check in with chief magistrate Greef Karga again. He's come full circle from his character in season 1. That Greef was a man with fewer scruples, but he was still trustworthy enough if you could pin him down and make him admit his real agenda. Now Greef is respectable again, with little robots carrying the end of his cape(!) to keep it off the ground. I kind of love this change, and his enthusiasm for the growth prospects of Nevarro. The pirate thing is new. It was somewhat bizarre that the pirate lieutenant was so obsessed with getting a drink in a school, but he was probably ordered to stir up trouble and show Greef who's boss. If it wasn't that, it would've been something else. Gorian Shard looks pretty cool. No doubt he'll show up again later this season. I don't think he's actually made of moss, but maybe his species has evolved to have a symbiotic relationship with it, like sloths that have moss growing in their fur. Then there was Bo Katan. I've been wondering about her since the end of season 2, and now we find that she did nothing about Din's possession of the Darksaber. I really thought she'd try to engineer a grievance so she could fight him, but apparently Bo just went home and watched as her people melted away. The closest she comes to being aggressive towards Din is the sulky "Where were you when Mandalore fell?" comment, but even that seemed half hearted. I think we'll see a change in her when Din relays the news that Mandalor isn't poisoned. If he actually does start waving the Darksaber around and rallying Mandalorians to come home she'll have to take him on. It's either that or spend the rest of her life in an empty palace.

I was really disappointed with the episode. The fight with the turtle made the mandolorians look completely incompetent and idiotic. They could have just all ran into the cave and been safe but instead they all wanted to stand on the beach and get killed by it and seemingly make no progress at all… and then the EXACT conversation he already had with the armourer that happened before without literally any new information. And then he insists on IG 11 to a degree that almost seems moronic… yes I understand he is superstitious and started the series with a lot of mistrust and dislike of droids, but they literally said the droid has no memory and will need a new brain essentially. Mando, how can you not understand that that makes it a completely different droid, not the same one you had before?? And besides he was literally in lava and then blew himself up… it’s really stupid that they had that much of him still and that it was completely intact… it seems like company secrets could be stolen easily if the self destruct does not destroy a lot of the upper body and head… Overall just a lot of seemingly dumb and pointless stuff and really not a strong start, in my opinion.

How can any one see this as anything but moving closer to The Book of Boba Fett? The opening scene held promise, but became goofy pretty fast, making this cohort of Mandalorians look a bit silly? The armorer running towards the gigantic crocodile thing with nothing but her hammers resulted in a reflexive “Seriously?” escaping under my breath. Many on social media wrongly assumed the new Mandalorian foundling getting his helmet was actually a flash back of Din Jarin, showing how few pay attention among Disney’s larger audience. The domestication of once fearful characters continues as Greef Karga has apparently relocated to the New England area of Nevarro while he moonlights as an education administrator. What is it about bounty hunters (Karga & Fett) retiring and becoming celebrity mayors in Star Wars? This was no “premiere”, it was prologue for S03. I was disappointed we were offered only a 36 min premiere after nearly 2 years between episodes. Ep 1 was clearly reworked to benefit those lucky enough to have avoided BOBF. I literally said “I have a bad feeling about this” completely unaware that I was quoting Han Solo, w/o an ounce irony when I saw the 36 min run time. This is the first premiere of The Mandalorian that felt more like a generic Disney+ show instead of a major Star Wars premiere. Has The Mando been demoted now that D+ is working on so many shows? Apparently, this is the way (that Disney has decided to take with The Mandalorian.) I thought The Bad Batch E11 was a better episode than The Mando Ep 1. It was the most disappointing episode I’ve seen so far. 🤦‍♂️

Well, nice, detailed commentary as usual--as a much, much more casual fan of the Mandalorian, didn't catch many of the layers you mentioned, especially about Paz Vizla (Who? I mean to me, he's just another Mandalorian in a mask, not a nuanced character) and what was going on with Bokatan, etc. Watching as a casual fan, I was impressed with the world-building and visuals but totally underwhelmed by the story. I guess I just don't care about Mandalore (GASP!!)--I feel like I'd have to watch the entirety of the Clone Wars or read more to get why I should dig the culture, but without a larger context, much of what the Mandalorians (in both the helmeted and non-helmeted factions) do leaves me flummoxed. I've never believed that Din Djarin, as a character, ever thought about ruling Mandalore; he's the least likely to want the position, which is probably their point ("the best leaders don't want to lead"), but the problem is I'm just as interested as he is in that prospect. In contrast, Bokatan was previously really gunning for it--now, even with Din standing right in front of her with the saber, she does nothing. People often don't do what's in their interests so it's OK, but not compelling to me storywise. Finally, you mentioned that the ever-growing faction of helmet-heads seems to genuinely care for each other--and if that's the case, why would they reject one of their own (and continuously push against ANY possibility of redemption for him)? If they truly cared, they would listen to WHY he removed his helmet--quite literally, in the service of saving his child--and then figure out a way for him to come back into the fold. I agree with Karga; he should settle down on Navarro, shake out his hair, find a mate, and raise Grogu happily in the comfort of people who aren't constantly rejecting him.

I wanted to post my review before I heard anyone else's but I watched this ep at Midnight right. For the most part, it's competently made Mandalorian as you've come to expect... maybe a little too much in some cases. There is a formula running through this ep that feels like check boxes of what to expect... action sequence with CG monster, CG space battle, cutaways to Grogu reaction shots (a bit too much I've noticed more), and fetch quests... and not really a deeper narrative. I saw nothing here to talk about Grogu's return in the slightest... all they did was reiterate what Mando has to do from BOBF where he had to go to Mandalore to wipe away his sins in the waters under Mandalore... but again, Grogu is just there because ... "reasons" that they won't explain. It was decent, entertaining, but somehow not as satisfying after Andor... and frankly BOBF undoing a powerful season ender.

Alternatively, BOBF should have just been Mando S3, with Boba's story serving as a "B" plot. They could've trimmed the fat from Boba's plotline, while expanding Din's get-exiled-then-go-build-a-hotrod-so-I-feel-better story and Grogu's training with Luke (which were both more interesting anyway). This also would've kept Mando and Grogu apart for the better part of a whole season of their own show, which could've better conveyed how long they were apart (which was two entire years, apparently, according to Feloni and Favreau). And it all could've still finished off with the Battle of Mos Espa.

Grogu just ruined this episode for me, like why the fuck is this baby back and why is mando just ok with getting into dangerous situations with the baby, in s1&2, the baby was here because mando had no other safe place to put him in, i remember in the 4th episode where mando tried to let him settle down with peaceful farmers and live a happy life, only for a hunter to find him and for him to realise that he has to keep moving, getting into danger all the while having the baby with him in all the danger, as the baby is only safe with mando Well no, apparently mando doesnt care anymore, he's just aggressively engaging a squad of shoehorned in pirates in a starfighter he barely knows how to pilot, and risking the safety of grogu for no reason nor necessity, what happened to getting grogu back to his people being the objective of mando?

I would have liked a more substantial story, that didn’t skip around so much from one topic to another without much plot. One such story could have focused on a more clear introduction to the pirates, perhaps showing them in action against a hapless and nameless freighter. Or focused on why he went back to Bo-Katan, right after he went back to the covert (the excuse for going back to the covert was to get a reading of that tablet and to reiterate how apostate he is from his cult). But why Bo-Katan? Did he think she would be able to help him get back to the Living Water? We don’t know.

For me, episodes like this one are mildly painstaking in part because they keep the great show that is the Mandalorian from being outstanding. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as much a fan of the Mandalorian as the next guy, but it’s the little details (i.e. oddly, abruptly focusing on Mando in the Boba Fett show, redundant episodes, and inconsistent tone) that hold this show back from reaching a truly formidable caliber of cinema/storytelling. I hope Jon, Dave, and anyone else steering the helm of major Star Wars content take notes from shows like Andor-as that is, albeit oddly, the only piece of Disney content thus far that legitimately contends for a spot in the discussion of the best film/television out there.

This was a great start to the season but all I have to say to anyone who loved this episode and has been complaining about Bad Batch for the last few weeks is this was the exact same type of episode which would be called filler on Bad Batch. If you think of it nothing much happened in this episode and can be summarized as Mando meets the Armor to recap the Book of Boba Fett, he meets with Greef Karga and they anger pirates, Mando tries to rebuild IG-11 and meets Bo Katan but it is fine since it is setting up the rest of the season.

The armorer scene was more than than that. She won’t believe him even if he brings proof of his journey. He’s proving to her that there IS a chance for redemption and urging HER to acknowledge that fact so she can’t call him a liar when he DOES return with said proof. Him saving their asses from Croczilla was a convenient way for the writers to give them reason not to shoot him on sight since he’s an apostate. Honestly this was a great episode if you read between the lines a bit. Yeah, we already knew he needs to go to Mandalore to redeem himself, but now we have an idea how he plans to go about it (using IG-11 as a scout). He’s actively teaching Grogu how to be a Mandalorian (dogfight scene), he goes to join Bo-Katan’s crew because he’s actually interested in uniting Mandalore now (Bo is understandably jaded at this point, though). Doesn’t seem like filler to me. Seems more like a great setup.

This was easily the weakest season premier for the Mandalorian, and one of the worst episodes overall for the series. There was no character building, limited plot development, elementary dialogue, poor pacing, and an overall frivolous tone with low stakes. Worse still is the fact that the episode didn’t establish any mystery or conflict to setup the next episode(s), which is a primary function for any season premier. More specifically, here’s some of my gripes: 1. The crocodile battle at the beginning felt poorly choreographed, and made the Mandalorians look totally inept. Like who would think a few ropes would do anything to control an animal that size? 2. The scene with the armorer was a duller retread of a scene from BoBF. Normally, I could understand this since some people may not have watched that show to know Din was exiled and must atone for taking his helmet off, but the way it is presented here lends zero weight to his quest for absolution. The BoBF scene was much more intriguing since it follows the Armorer’s recounting of “the night of a thousand tears” and Din fighting for the dark saber against Paz Vizla. 3. The IG-11 subplot is another, “let’s bring back a dead character that had a satisfying and emotional “death” because we don’t feel like doing the work of introducing someone new” feeling to it. He was literally built with a bomb in his torso so he could self-destruct to prevent being captured and having his parts repurposed, but somehow none of that matters now. Also, it was strange editing to have Din discussing searching for the IG-11 parts when leaving Navarro, only to have him travel to Bo Katan? 4. The pirates felt like a low stakes and ham-fisted plot point just to show off Din’s new ship and justify a space battle. The whole scene of them insisting on getting a drink at a school is a weak motivation to put their lives on the line. Maybe they wanted to drink the juice boxes from the school cafeteria? Likewise, the design for the pirate captain also made me think of the Flying Dutchman from SpongeBob-too cartoonish. 5. Bo Katan straight up felt like the Jarl of Whiterun from Skyrim. Probably because their entire dialogue exchange was purely expositional. She just casually mentions in one sentence that her entire clan abandoned her. This is the same clan that stuck with her when she conspired to overthrow her sister as part of death watch, and fought with her to defeat Maul and retake their planet, so their abandonment should have more weight than a single line of exposition. They could’ve at least shown us that event in a flashback to add more weight to their abandonment and give us some emotional resonance for how Bo Katan feels after their betrayal. Classic case where “show don’t tell” filmmaking should’ve been implemented. At the very least, they could’ve built more hostility and tension to their conversation since she basically lost everything because Din walked away with the dark saber at the end of last season. That said, there were some decent parts of the episode. Namely: 1. Scene with the Anzellens was pretty cute/funny. 2. Spaceship fight scene was pretty entertaining. 3. Visually, the scene showing the Purrgil was interesting. (If they don’t have any implication to the plot later in the season though, it’ll be another “setup” for another show) 4. Bo Katan’s castle was designed and shot well. I’m still excited for the season overall, but after 2-years of waiting, this was a pretty poor way to start a season. Felt like a mid-season “setup” episode at best. I don’t mean to take away from anyone’s enjoyment of the show however. So, if you liked it, I’m happy for you.

Honestly, I'm truly happy people are enjoying this show, but man it's just not for me. I could not care an ounce less of what's happening in this show. This 1st episode was everything about the show that I don't care for: - Felt like a side mission, of a side mission, leading to another side mission....just to all lead to Mando completing his side mission to take a bath to "redeem" himself for taking his helmet off? I get that's against their rules but man I need more than that to look forward to for a season's arc. (with now a new side mission of him probably spending a whole episode to get another memory chip for IG-11....YAY!) - Grogu I was all for the first season or so, but I'm sorry if we're getting a third whole season of "oh look how cute he is!" , I'm sorry but I'm just over it. - And what's the point of Mando wanting IG-11 exactly? (which is absurd that he's even half alive still). He needs him to help him through the mines? Lol What kind of plot point is that? Mando barely even knew him and why was he special at all? Lol - I thought MAYBE at least the show might have an interesting dynamic between Bo & Mando for who should rule and have the darksaber....and Bo Katan is just like yeah just go ahead and have it lol. Ok. I'm sure they'll do more with this down the road but I'm likely just done with this show. Sorry to rant, but I was on the rocks with this show coming into this episode and good to know I only needed 1 episode to know it's definitely not for me. I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion among many in this community. Admittedly I'm much more into the force/lightsaber/jedi/sith aspect of Star Wars, so maybe this show was never for me but I was such a big fan of star wars and the show gets so much hype that I felt obligated to watch it. Hope you all enjoyed it a lot more than I did. ✌

Time has to be precious when you only have 8 episodes; I think the pirate stuff was a waste of time, the moss pirate boss looked really silly. I thought at first that we were seeing a flashback of Din Djarin's 'baptism'. How did he know where the Children of the Watch were? What planet was it? How did they get so many new faces...er...helmets...so quickly? And those IG assassin droids! Wow are they well made! IG88 was walking in a river of lava and detonated a thermal detonator and he still was partially fixable. The best parts of this rather shaky beginning were the live action purgill (shadows of them) hinting at Thrawn and Ezra's disappearance, learning that Cara Dune had not been killed off, and seeing a disillusioned Bo-Katan in a Mando castle. The crocodile-turtle thingy was cool and the scene was action packed, but it took up time from what needs to be a tight schedule. The Anzellans were okay but Grogu's too-cute hug of one and Greef's stupid interpretation of Anzellan for Mando were wastes as well. Drop the pirate sub-plot, focus on Mandalore and make every moment count like Andor did.

I want to have good story that feel like they were thought-out and well-made. I didn't get that feeling. Im also so tired of star wars bringing in elite characters and units just so they can die like p****ys. Bad Batch did this with its lastest Ep. Why is a Commando cowaring in fear of a zillo beast? Just let him die like a badass or use a scientist or normal trooper. One of my biggest pet peeves is shows, movies, books, and games promoting a character or type of character as elite or top of there class just to get out classed or act like they have never known combat before. At that point just use a normal person.

It WAS enjoyable (as it's Mando, after all), but then again it also was a walk down the nostalgia lane, a retrospective of famous past scenes (fighting a giant beast, for instance). After two years, I expected more of a blast than this.

Is it really enjoyable though? You had people incompetently fighting a beast, a gunslinging with strangers no one cares about and then a space battle with low stakes and incompetent villains that no one cares about. At a certain point, creativeless competency is just boring. Mando has officially reached the stage of apathy for me

A ‘just average’ episode for the opening chapter of such a massive, extremely highly anticipated season is in a way almost more frustrating than just an overall bad episode. I totally understand the need for setup, but they could have done several things to tighten it. Even Mando himself felt like a plot device specifically meant for exposition and rehashing things we already know with all his very useless lines pointing out the obvious. Pacing was off. Way too short of an episode in general. We’ve already seen just about almost literally the exact same scene we saw in The Book of Boba Fett as we got here in the opening of this episode directly after the title card where he visits the Armorer once again and she tells him the only way to redeem himself as a Mandalorian is to bathe in the springs of the mines beneath the surface of Mandalore, blah blah blah. It’s whatever, just a bit aggravating that Disney never seems to learn their lesson from mistakes they’ve made in the past and time and time again continue to make those same exact mistakes, despite all the complaints from the majority of the audience! They either just don’t care to listen, or they have heard the pushback, but it means seemingly nothing to them… 🤦‍♂️ 😒 Pretty generous 7/10, only because I have faith things will pick up very quickly soon enough and get very tense/exciting in no time at all. I will say that I was entertained throughout most of the episode though, of course, just not quite thoroughly satisfied enough as I wanted to be or was expecting, that’s all! ✌🏼

That's a good way to look at it. I did enjoy it, but I had a feeling this first episode was going to be a little on the average side. Having Grogu back is kind of pointless and his inclusion overall damages the show, so we all knew that was going to be a problem. The length of the episode was also an indicator that this wasn't going to be the best start of the season, but like you said, we'll see. For all we know, the coming episodes could blow us away and justify Grogu's existence.

I enjoyed the episode, it seemed to set up a lot of things at once, as well as providing a necessary recap for those that may have missed the BOBF episodes. My favorite element was the pirates honestly, they have excellent prosthetics, costume design, and overall vibe. I'm sure we'll see space moss Davey Jones again.

I am not trying to be negative nelly here, but to me this episode represents everything that I do not like about live action Disney Star Wars... 1) only planets that look like earth 2) mainly humans or humanoid-looking non-humans with rubbery sillicone masks 3) plots that revolves around high stakes stuff taking place on low level locations In my opinion, despite its more modest audience, the Bad Batch is a whole league above what Mandalorian season 2, the book of Boba Fett and Kenobi tried to do....Animated Star Wars does brings us the diversity of the galaxy (both in planets and species) that George Lucas' world building deserves.... My scores: Mandalorian season 1 (8,5/10 very fun) Clone wars season 7 (9,5/10 brilliant, even with the Martez-arc) Bad Batch season 1 (7,5/10 fun but not great) Mandalorian season 2 (7/10 still fun, generally okay) Book of Boba Fett (4/10 laughably bad) Kenobi (5/10 very mediocre, hate how they stole parts of Jedi Fallen order) Andor (8/10 on account of its good story) Bad Batch season 2 (8,5/10 very fun)

I really don't like the way they portray Mandalorians in this episode. So just because Bo-Katan does not have the saber, her and all her followers have given up on everything? Did they not have the aim of restoring Mandalore and weren't other Mandalorians following Bo-Katan for that common goal. Why is all of that gone just because she does not have the saber. Are we supposed to believe that a whole culture is so shallow that all they ever care about is someone possessing a saber? If she was worth following before why is she not worth following now? If Mandalore was worth fighting for before, why is it not worth fighting for now? All of that because of the absence of a saber? Did Bo-Katan have no other qualities that rallied people to her? Coupled with the other Mandalorians we know who are obsessed with keeping their helmets on at every moment, so much so that even just one instance will be enough to exile you from everyone and everything you hold dear forever, this culture sounds all sorts of crazy. Don't get me wrong I like the series and Star Wars in general and I think Mandalorian culture is fascinating when portrayed with more nuance . In my opinion, it would really help the series if the general peoples of Mandalore were represented to be a bit more level headed and sensible. I can understand extreme sects within a larger culture and their presence in that context is fine. But when all members (or both factions we are introduced to) are portrayed as shallow zealots one way or the other, it does not look good. It makes me wonder if it's a good thing their culture almost died 😁😁

the pirate captain looks like a Brute from halo. I must say i dont really like the IG-11 fetch quest. The fact that all the vital parts of IG11 are still there also takes away from the entire IG unit lore, because apparently they cant even blow themselves up properly when it is very important design element of the unit. the chest and head survived ando mando got it somewhat working after some tinkering

The recap feel is real in this episode. This episode feels like Mando going to three different locations and saying I’m going to Mandalore to those three different people. Also the fight scene at the start was dumb. I get that the Mandalorian’s are scattered and not as good as they used to be but I really do wonder why none do them just flew back away from the slow moving gator.

I quite enjoyed this season's first episode! True, it didn't do a lot to push the story but I think it set up enough things for the rest of the season. It is just one episode out of eight (which eight has always been the standard for Mandalorian), there is plenty of time left for the main plot to progress and I think it will make big waves. The Purrgil and even the pirates to me are foreshadowing big events in the future. The IG-11 quest definitely came out of nowhere for me, I was expecting R5-D4 from Peli Motto but again, we still have time.

It was underwhelming. I really dislike the fact that it appears like the show won’t evolve past its fan service, cash grab fetch quest nature. After seeing Andor, a Star Wars show with a really good narrative, it makes Mando feel lackluster in many ways. Tbh honest the formula already wore off for me in season two. I hope the rest of this season gets better
