The name of this putrid game has always stuck with me. Never played it, but saw it advertised everywhere. Marketing genius hacking into young(ish) game players' minds? Or my own troubled brain? Very, very French. Thanks for showcasing the shambolic as always. Keep 'em coming

The Election Game has to be the worst game ever made for the Commodore 64 released by Mastertronic in 1984 for £2.99, yeah not full price, but it wasn't worth the tape space and it makes Lee Enfield: Tournament of Death look stunning.

I've never been a fan of political strategy games in all fairness. The game was released here in North America as The Candidate, but the game was edited to US politics.

I can honestly say I've never played this game and viewing it I can see why. But,......I have to try it once to see how bad it really is 🤣 Right, you want a worse game than this, I've got one. Brought out by Electric Dreams it retailed on cassette for £9.99 and disk for £14.99 and goes by the name of "Explorer". Commodore force gave it 8%, Zzap gave it 13%. It truly is awful, to this day no one understands let alone play this game. It's truly awful. Boasting over 40 billion locations, truth is they look almost identical. Great video as always mate 👍

I used to add C64 games to one of those multi-platform retro websites. This meant to get the screenshots, I had to play the games so I feel your pain mate having to play those other games to get footage. This one made me cry 😂 That fight scene near the end reminds me how me and the wife danced when we first met in a nightclub. Go on, try Di’s Baby by Bad Taste Software. You will hate for making you play it 😂

I can't be the first to make this observation, but on its journey from bedroom coder to software shelf with evaluation copies sent out to magazines for review, there must have been positive sign-offs all along the way from the 'software house'. There are hundreds of thousands of shit songs that went through the same process because the consumer bought the last band's single but yet no radio station was playing the new one but hey, it was just 99p down the drain. Imagine spending £7.99 in 1984 money because of an advert in a magazine, adjacent to a corrupt 90% review...... Sorry! Getting old now. Burned too many times.

As a Dutch person, the A-Team "game" hurts extra, as Courbois (BTW as a kid I pronounced this wrongly as Core boys) software are from the Netherlands. Had many other games by them in the early 80s, most were programmed in BASIC without even a revised character set for an added bit of quality..... Hard to say what the very worst game is on the C64. Especially since there are hundreds of primitive SEUCK games around.... Lee Enfield does have some funky music later on then! Didn't know that. Still wasted of course. At least the reviews are funny. In my book, probably the worst game, is the one that's the most boring... and therefore also the most forgettable.

A Team is a disaster but thankfully I think it was only on a compilation. I get what you mean about boring games. Ever played Tarzan on the C64? Zzzzzzz

@@SebsPlaceYT Yeah... fairly aimlessly running through a jungle maze with coconut percussion music. Great for committed mapping enthusiasts maybe. The Flash Gordon game on the Commy is quite similar (at least the first level) and does it a bit better actually. And that was a budget game.

As bad as it is, the A-Team was probably the only game they made themselves. The vast majority of their games were just translated/pirated games from other countries (mostly German type in games) without permission at that.

@@OperationPhantom It wasn't an officially licensed game BTW, it was an early example of homebrew, and not good homebrew either. So not only did they plagiarize already low quality type-ins, they also released an unlicensed turd.

For a moment I wondered whether this was an extreme case of reducing gameplay area to enable lazy sharing of graphics/code assets between ports (most notably on most of Codemaster's Dizzy series on the C64... ..but none of the systems this game released on has a screen resolution that low, not even the Thompsons. It's the sort of thing you might have seen had they shared assets from an Atari 2600, or an early black+white handheld.

Escape MCP released by Rabbit Software in 1983 is pretty awful, I used to load it up to laugh at it with my friend, if I remember rightly it cost £5.99.

I used to joke about that game saying that MCP was an abbreviation for My Crappy Programming BTW, the Rabbit version was a re-release. The game was originally published in the US by a company called Comm*Data (who were notorious for putting out sub-par games)

Good Lord. Although the enemy knight with the sword is ALRIGHT, you can see what it is. And the backgrounds are OK. And the music is cool! Apart from that it's awful!

I always remember Breakthru on the Amstrad CPC back in the day got about 3% in one the dedicated Amstrad magazines, Amstrad Action I think?

As for games, which are worse. Well, I think 3 or 4 come to mind which are equally bad or slightly worse IMO. Knight Rider, Top Gun and Ninja Master (was only budget but was bad). You could also put Pit Fighter in there as well. I do like the tune in this game though, quite catchy really.

I have to say the worst Commodore 64 game which is a budget title ninja master.. This game also went to number one in the Commodore 64 best selling games chart

To have a proper definition of 'worst game' to compare to, please play "Los Angeles SWAT" on the Amstrad CPC - I bought this in about 1988 and I'm still smarting over paying my £1.99 pocket money for it 36 years later. Not only is it SH*T, it slows down to 1FPS two minutes into the game every time.

The appallingly bad Lee Enfield: Tournament of Death quite rightly gets slated here, because it is absolutely awful. As for other full price bobbins C64 games, give these a go: Bob Winner (Lorciels) - appallingly bad beat em up with all shades of yellow and brown badly digitised graphics, zero playability and confusing as to what to do. Zzap! 64 gave it 12% and even that was too much to be honest. Dick Tracy (Titus) - terrible left to right flick screen shooter based on the poor film. Even Thomas Detert's music was way below his usual good standard. Zzap! 64 gave it 11%, Commodore Format gave it 11% too. Also well worth watching Zeusdaz's series on rubbish games, there are some corkers across all formats to look at.

It was actually Markus Schneider who did the music for Dick Tracey. Which was also disappointing because Markus, who is a friend of Detert's also usually put out good music

It's because that was created by a notorious Dutch public domain group. It wasn't even an officially licensed game, it was pretty much an early example of homebrew...not good homebrew either.
