@@thematiasmadness7010 as bad as it is, it and a lot of the smaller pushes for AI products do appear to actually coming from a place of legitimate passion. During the crypto shitshow ~2 years ago for instance when fucking everybody had a new coin or token they wanted you to buy some of my best interactions were with crypto-focussed companies. Personally I ran nicehash on my gaming rig when I was away from home to make some extra cash and pay for a private VPN, some steam cards here and there, etc. and there was a company called paywithmoon that let you create prepaid debit cards via bitcoin in like, 5 minutes, tops. I had to contact support a handful of times for weird issues, and they responded within minutes and, on my second support request they even specifically referenced that I had mentioned something in my previous request. (not an ad btw, after FTC happened and even seeing the word "bitcoin" in finanical records meant bringing in a hazmat crew whatever bank they had a deal with pulled out and I don't know if they ever started back up again. I know they had plans to, but I don't know if it ever happened) The issue is basically never with the technology, it's with the people using it. The chatbot is just finishing text prompts, it's the dumbass humans who gave it such a shit prompt with such biased training it literally considers the hard-R worse than a funeral. The same shotgun someone can use to punch their own ticket and paint their bedroom can feed (or save) their family. The same Ender-3 SMG someone can use to punch other people's tickets can be used to fight against a tyranical regieme. And, pulling it back to mundane shit to lighten the tone that just got way too dark way too quick, Helldivers 2 is "one of the good ones" and live service games "aren't all bad" all of a sudden, even though for the past decade the words "live service" have been a full-fat 98% gameist slur. Even flatly, indisputable, completely unambigouous anti-consumer shit, isn't. Nintendo is fairly frequently credited with saving all of gaming, by inventing DRM. Them adding DRM prevented third parties from churning out tons of shit games, so consumers who didn't want to deal with sifting through mountains of shit could just buy a NES, buy a cartridge, and have some assurance that it would be a quality experience. Again, this is *_despite_* the very clear and indisputable fact that DRM does absolutely nothing for the consumer and only takes choices away from the end user. The very simplistic "X good, Y bad" reasoning that a lot of modern movements are built on is honestly just fucking stupid. Give me a talking point that has been used in the past 3 months to support Right to Repair and I guarantee you I can 1:1 map it onto an equivalent argument to ban encryption because, *_in it's modern form,_* RtR isn't a conclusion reached from reasoning, it's reasoning created to reach a conclusion. (older RtR which was more about "hey, Apple is fucking you over, why are you okay with this, stop buying from them" is a different story) Again, even flatly anti-consumer technology like DRM *_can_* benefit consumers overall, no technology is simply good or simply bad, and any technology can be used in good or bad ways. The issue is that means you can't just reach *_a_* conclusion, and have that be your single, complete, consistent opinion; you need to have actual nuance. I mean christ over the past 8 years both the Democrats and Republicans have tried to "ban tiktok" in some form or another and they both complained when the other side did it. I mean sure, *_some_* people stayed consistent, but the parties as a whole generally didn't, and I didn't see anyone from either addressing why their opinion changed or giving good reasoning for it. People want quick answers and easy opinions and "you can't have them, they don't exist" isn't going to stop them because they can't read
