It's amazing how many times I've seen a first time reactor to Pentatonix rendered almost completely mute by the performance. It happens far more often than you'd think. Their mastery encompasses not only the singing but the arrangement of the parts, like that brief break before Mitch's solo. They are expert in creating "moments" in the song just like that, and using the swell of the dynamics to really pull you in. They're a hard act to follow.

This song was my introduction to Pentatonix back at the beginning of the pandemic. That's kind of embarrassing for me to say now because they are from my home state of Texas AND they've been around for almost a decade now. But once I heard this, I was instantly hooked and made up for lost time QUICKLY and spent months binge watching every video and downloading every album. I have become a dedicated Pentaholic and haven't had a day pass since that I haven't watched/listened to something PTX-related. My reaction to this was exactly the same as yours.

@@CShayOfficial You're asking a biased audience :D. A lot of reactors actually did both and some sort of compared them, so I don't think it's a problem. I think you can find something special in each and if you like one more than the other, that's ok. But considering Sound of Silence is probably one of the most important music videos to capture the new era of Pentatonix, if you were to choose only one, I would definitely vote for watching their version. You would miss out on a lot passing that one.

@@CShayOfficial They are different takes on the same song for sure. There are those that swear by Disturbed as their favorite up until they hear the PTX version, and some are converted. It doesn't hurt to experience it so you can make the judgment for yourself. If it's not your cup of tea you control the means of even letting it out that you've seen one or the other if you're concerned about that. But I promise you the more PTX you listen to the harder it will be to think the other version is better.

Shay ... you obviously have a huge heart. I've been listening to PTX since 2013. I've seen every video they have recorded. It's not unusual to get emotionally involved with their music, from pain, to joy, to sheer happiness. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin have been singing together since they were 10, almost 20 years now. Scott is a baritone, Mitch is a Contra Tenor, and Kirstie is a Mesos Soprano. Their blend together is electric. Go to PTXOfficial.com to see most of their videos. I recommend Daft Punk for which they won their first Grammy. Listen to some of their Christmas music. Check out Jolene with Dolly Partin. Somebody That I Used to Know was recorded in a concrete basement; it's amazing. There are many , many others. They have a huge following on KZbin. Their videos have been viewed almost 3B times (Yes, Billion). You get beautifully emotional on Hallelujah, you're not alone, I've shed a tear more than once when listening to their recording. I shed one with you during your review. Thank you, just be being you.

@@CShayOfficial We eat it up! Many Pentaholics have been rooting for them right from the beginning (you can see all of their performances on the Sing Off which launched their career, I recommend it if you're continuing to do reactions!) and we are so eager for PTX to get the recognition and accolades they deserve. No wonder we love it when we see other people get blown away by them! So many people get stuck on "woah that's acapella?" that they may miss the nuance - that these are incredibly smart musicians who bring their technical knowledge and skill to the table, which just makes them sound that much more incredible. And we can't forget Ben Bram, their producer! He is the one who can really bring out the best in all of their voices.

They've won 3 Grammys to date and are continuously touring the world performing sold out concerts for fans everywhere. Please react to their Daft Punk Medley (this won them their 1st Grammy). Perfect for 2020 and it has a beautiful message, both in lyrics and arrangement. Here's one no one (I don't think) has recommended yet: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Reacting to Pentatonix as beautifully as you just did, and being open to hearing more, will bring you lots of new subscribers, you may be sure. (Like me, just this moment.) Two distinctive things about this group (for me): 1, each member has a strong enough voice and musicality to have a solo career if they wanted to; there are no "filler voices," and each of them could (and sometimes does) take the lead. 2. They have always had really exceptional imagination in terms of arrangements; when they do covers, they honor the original but find something unexpected to do with it.

All of the members of Pentatonix have both incredible talent and exceptional range. Scott cover bass while Ari sings lead, and Ari can easily sing the baritone line. Kirsten is a stunningly talented mezzo-soprano who can also sing coloratura. Kevin is so multitalented it is frightening. And then there is Mitch. He pours his whole heart and soul into the verse he sings. He rips your heart out and then puts it back together. He has the voice of an angel.

Hi! Subscribed. I really love that reaction. There are a couple of their songs that get pretty emotional for people. Imagine, for example, especially right now. You also get to hear the beatboxer (Kevin) sing in that one for a little bit. I would also recommend some of their newer videos, because they changed one member over the years. The bass guy (Avi) you saw in this video left in 2017 and they now have a new bass singer (Matt). Their cover of The Sound of Silence is sort of the Hallelujah of Matt era with how powerful it is. The cover of Dreams by The Cranberries from their At Home EP (all arranged, recorded and shot from their respective houses in quarantine) is beautiful, but I'm not sure how you'd like it, because it's a bit more "traditionally a cappella" - stripped down, five- or four-part harmony for most of the song, but it really showcases how their voices fit together. Last but not least, they just released an original song, the first single to their upcoming original album. The song is called Happy Now, so that would definitely be a recommendation from me as well :D. But you'll probably get tons of recommendations from Pentaholics (Pentatonix fans :)). I don't think you'll be left wanting in that department :D. However, I would like to warn you, Sony recently went on a blocking spree for PTX rections for some reason. Once in a while they just get crazy. So just keep that in mind so you can try and prevent it :). Again, great reaction, I'll definitely come back for more :).

@@CShayOfficial Yes, that's the new guy. Sound of Silence is a pretty good song to get to know him, because he shows off his voice there a bit.

For harmony check out dreams. It's their best ever harmony. If you aren't moved by this video, in my opinion, something is wrong. That was a perfect reaction. People WILL come on here and tell you not to pause so much but you have to pause 4 to 5 times or it gets blocked esp their newer stuff. Just when you pause take it back 10 seconds if you wouldn't mind. Also pentaholics are what their fans are called (bc once you start watching them you can't stop) and the true pentaholics are kind loyal people. Also if you want to run it back and watch a whole section or the whole song again we don't mind. I love your lighted signs in the back.

Shay! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your absolutely honest reaction! Not many people allow themselves to actually let go and feel the music is this type of setting and b/c you were feeling it and I could see it, I went to that place with you and it was ....healing for lack of a better word! Excited to see more from you!

There is one song of theirs that always makes me just sit back and sigh with contentment, but it doesn't get much attention in these reaction videos. It's My Grown Up Christmas List with Kelly Clarkson and it fits so well with whats going on right now in the world. Yes Kelly tends to try to take over in the sing, but it's the blend of the beautiful harmonies and the interplay between Kelly and Kirsten in the song that is priceless. Pentatonix is SO good and they always send me places in my heart. When you can make someone smile, giggle and cry at the same time, you've accomplished something so difficult that very damn few can do it. I LOVE seeing the reactions from first timers, knowing that they are going to be blown away by it.

exactly what somebody looks like when the humanity meets the soul. the person confronts their humanity and also....hello spirituality. Most hardened humans fall apart when this song by Pentatonix is heard for the first time. NO judgement here. most people fall apart!

Welcome to the rabbit hole. Pentatonix, as you pointed out, knows how to use their voices quite well. If you want to hear versatility, listen to two of their best: "Daft Punk" medley (techno pop) and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" (rather obvious Christmas music). And, as it happens, two Grammy-winning performances.

I love your reaction!!! They are obviouslyso artistically talented and the harmonies so complex but what I love the most is how they come together to evoke a profound emotional response in so many people. This song and their unique version of this song touches something on a primitive level. So many people like myself report experiencing chills and the feeling it produces in people’s bodies, hearts and souls. It must be spectacular to be at their concert being there in person and not just feeling the impact of the song but also a crowd of people all experiencing the emotional impact of them singing the song

Music is the universal language that surpasses words and even logic to speak directly to the soul, and boy does PTX speak that language with power and emotion. They are amazing and I'm so happy to see your honest and heartfelt (or soul-felt) reaction. Oh, and just fyi, this isn't a religious song; it's about love but using biblical symbolism. Great reaction. Please, yes, more PTX! :)
