I absolutely love this theory. At first I was like oh this is a cool idea but by the Johnny quasar segment I was so sold! It’s completely plausible Oda seen some version of Jimmy Neutral. He has said he was a huge western cartoon fan. Growing up he watched Disney movies, and all the Looney toon series PLUS his office is stuffed with western movie references like a life size terminator etc Oda always taps in with all previous “spins” on idea he is cooking up, So even if he didn’t see it before his idea for Vega Punk. I completely believe he came across a version of Jimmy Neutron media, while fleshing out the character. This may just be wishing full thinking because I was/ am a huge Jimmy Neutron fan growing up. lol But this video sold me and totally seems like the kinda thing Oda would do. Par with another banger!

if you pay close attention, some of the early one piece arcs (and i believe dressrosa and wholecake island) mirror disney movies, arabasta for one is a huge peter pan and slight aladdin reference, crocodile's hook hand is the first giveaway. it's been a bit since i read early OP so most of the details evade my memory at the moment, but i recall there being quite a sizeable chunk of references to disney movies in a bunch of OP arcs, like the plot of beauty and the beast being reversed in sanji and pudding's marriage (pudding being the "beast" because she believes herself to be a freak, sanji's kindness breaking her "curse"), and the whole big mom singing with living inanimate objects...etc.

Damn it Par, this is really good. I thought I would be contesting this until you brought up the egg episode and then you continued to back it up. My guess is this arc is a mix of a bunch of alien-super scientist types of cartoons. Because in the movie, the Iron Giant, the Iron Giant is an Alien is from space. Jimmy Neutron movie deals with space. Vegapunk is tied to Space Pirates from that one cover page. We’re going to space for sure and we will be seeing aliens. I used to love Jimmy Neutron, but it’s such a random reference. It’s so random, but maybe it was influential on Oda. Now I wonder if the Egg Roger had was an alien.

So for most of my demographic the statement regarding virality claiming "this was before the internet" (whether hyperbolic or not) was said to achieve the primary effect of the getting the audience to understand that a random niche cgi convention video reaching any form of virality without ever even being posted on the internet, is pretty significant but also achieving such a thing in a completely different era of the internet than the ones most of us could even personally had experienced. Someone would sooner believe that they would askjeeves to find that video back then lmfao, joking idk if 18 year olds even know what that was wither. But the point was that as far as a presentation goes, if it were about computer history sure deduct points, but someone as smart as you can realize most of the audience wouldn't effectively be able to contextualize any of what you said, but would be able to understand what was being described from the technical hyperbolic statement or the romanticized descriptive separation of what the internet was in 1996 vs what it is now, implying that the mechanism that we have today at the palm of our hands with the help of social media did not exist in the same way it did back then or at all.
