I am being a bit cheeky and commenting here instead of writing the 580th comment, but... I love van life content and your video, but most van life YTers do not film in grocery stores etc. For us outside the UK, seeing an English grocery store, seeing what you buy, the prices etc is interesting. Just like you filmed in Willy's and Norwegian grocery stores because it was a bit different and exotic, the same applies for us non British people viewing your videos.

Lou, picking up rubbish is never pointless. Firstly and most importantly, thank you for doing it. Secondly, the less there is the fewer the number of people who drop litter. Our city centre is swept every two hours to keep rubbish to a minimum because research has shown that the less there is, the less is dropped. Thirdly, the whole place looks better for being picked up. Fourthly - if people see you doing it, they will be more likely to feel they can also pick up rubbish. The first time I did it around where I lived I filled three carrier bags. There has never been that much again, and I mention to people that I do it, whereupon they start doing it. It's changed the area around where I live permanently and I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I know it was me starting it that made the difference because I started doing it about six years ago having lived here for 30 years. It has never gone back to being as bad as it was before I started. None of us will ever be willing to pay enough Council Tax to keep people employed to keep the streets and roads free of litter because there will always be a very few people who think chucking their rubbish about is perfectly okay. If litter pickers such as us just keep at it the whole place will be cleaned up in no time at all.
@campervibe2 жыл бұрын
That’s really good and yeah you are right people are so less likely to drop it if there is not uff already there

Good on you. Set an example. As you say the less there is, the less there will be. Driving in Italy, down to Rome, I could not believe how much rubbish there was. Everywhere. Its my abiding memory it was that bad. Litter pickers are lovely people. I am therefore a lovely person, brilliant.

I'm so glad you brought up the rubbish issue, please do not stop talking about it even if its just in passing. Where I live i rural Devon the lanes have gotten really bad and I'm pretty sure it started to get really extra bad from during the start of the first lockdown. I do not know what kind of ******* chucks rubbish out their car window, some of it could be from the recycling lorries but sorry I do think foreign or even homegrown parcel delivery van drivers could be a prime suspect. PS this was a really good video idea I really enjoyed it.

I used to walk atop the north pennines. Miles from any road, i found a "supermarket bag" with rubbish in it. The fact that people had to walk miles to get there, loving the "blooming heather", yet still trashed it, made me "light headed with rage". This was in the 80's. Still riles me to this day.

There was even some tissues with what look and had the sent of human faeces, I did not pick those ones up, I stayed away from the used condoms as well. And you are right the place was full of bins!! The field had started growing some new seedling but it was not obvious to walk across, i took my dog for a walk around the edges which turned out to be a good walk but not picturesque at all, except for the view of the steeple. I have not written a review yet but will. I think whatever film you present us is excellent and interesting. You are obviously a pro and you are good at it.

Great vlog. I agree, picking up rubbish is a great past time and the more people that do it, the cleaner our Country will be. It is the minority that adds to this problem which is why we are so shocked when we see people lobbing nappies out of cars etc. I read a lot of David Sedaris books. He is an American humorist author (lives in the UK) who has a sick sense of humour but, he famously picks up litter wherever he is. In fact, in his home town they have a refuse truck un his honour! If you're gonna pick up his books - try, 'When you are engulfed in flames' or 'Me talk pretty one day'. In fact, all his books are a great read, even if you do cringe in places. Happy trails both. Mal, Ruth and Raffy.

Hey Louise! You are not alone in your abhorrence of litter - and you're not the only country that should be embarrassed about it. Here in Canada we see the same things but we have more miles of unspoilt wilderness to dump in. Cities over the last two and a half years have drastically cut back on maintaining roads, clearing rubbish, street cleaning etc and haven't bothered to reinstate any such thing, at least not to its pre-panic level anyway. It's not just garbage here but overgrown weeds, grasses and tree branches. Now, I'm a country girl with no interest in manicured lawns and pristine parks but we do have a tick problem here (not to mention the druggies with their needles) and long grasses in public areas is a danger to everyone. Having personal trash amongst all that is quite depressing to look at! Please, keep mentioning it. As the old adage goes: the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Speaking of old....those atlas books are the BEST way to navigate....yes, I'm older than you but that doesn't mean I haven't TRIED using a 3 inch screen to use a map but.....I need to see the big picture lol! It's funny but I do all the driving AND the navigating while his nibs sits with his nose two inches from a screen trying to find the place I've already located in a map book. I will say that your Newmarket is a much better town than our Newmarket (Ontario)! Love the vid - can't wait for Part 2!

Yes we as a country are supposedly intelligent and considerate . Not about this . Am enjoying this so much . But would really like you to do different areas ie Wales, Scotland , England and then different parts in each . And compare all and everything, that content would be let’s say challenging and also most people down here in the south or just England would be shamed . As I think we would let ourselves down . The reason why it’s kind of good with the litter situation in Norway ,is that every spring they have cleanup along the roads ,so that especially the way things get picked up and put in big trash bags, and a day or two later they come with the garbage truck and pick up every garbage bag, and I think this is why the roads along in Norway are pretty good when it comes to rubbish and We also learned that we are not supposed to throw things out the window

Good idea with the darts. We used to watch a program years ago 'the diceman'. Was really good way of adding random element to travel. As for the litter I think it's all over Europe too whenever population is more dense. I see the problem being a far greater problem of how people now see themselves, others and the environment. People are more disconnected with others than they ever have been, in a world where it simply shouldn't be a problem. Breaking barriers in communities and getting people to communicate with each other is key. People need to have purpose and common values with one another. Too many things easily divide us if we allow them too.

Garbage is everywhere. In Sweden and in the UK. However, i have to say, when i was travelling in Scotland it was so sad to see the garbage coming in from the sea and fill up small beaches. We came across a meadow up on the road through Glen Coe, and that meadow was the choice for someone to dump car batteries and tons of other stuff. Over here in Sweden i think we manage to keep the highways kind of clean, mostly due to "clean up parties" that takes place every spring where volunteers and school classes help out. If we hadnt that, i am sure our highways and road would look just like yours. It is mind boggling how garbage disposal can be so hard to deal with! People! Other than that, i really enjoyed your "dart trip", thank you for sharing!

Nice little vid Louise. I can understand the urge for solace , we all need to grab a bag n run sometimes 😂. I do worry about you sometimes in these remote places you stay. I totally agree with you regarding litter, it’s totally unnecessary and gives you an idea of the people who use the area. Take care

Your salad is lovely and colourful. Love the potatoes in it. Hate rubbish too.

Great vlog Lou. The horses were a fun morning, and it's really interesting to see backroads and little villages. Plus drone footage on a misty morning. I personally love the idea of throwing darts at a map. Spontaneity can really give some interesting experiences. Looking forward to vlog 2

Well that was a different vlog!...but I enjoyed it. The not knowing where you are going to end up is a great way to explore. I've done similar in the past by opening a map with my eyes closed and pointing to a spot. Open eyes and that's where I went. Good for you Lou 👍🏼 Shame about all that rubbish on the side of the roads. It quite literally is getting worse. Look forward to the next vid. All the best.
