THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAVE THINGS TO CHANCE! Solo female stealth camping (Van Life UK)
Now that we are back in the UK it's time to take a break from all the planning involved with a big European van life trip, and set of on a good old solo female van life adventure!
Yes that's right, I'm leaving Emily behind (truth be told she's kicking me out the door) and leaving everything down to chance, in a game I'm calling vanlife roulette!
The idea is simple, long time travellers often spin a globe and randomly stop it with their finger to provide their next travel destination, only we are doing it with darts and a road atlas of Britain, and not just one stop.. three!!
I'm leaving my next three nights of wild camping completely up to chance and I could be staying anywhere! It's a good test of UK park ups (and my ability to throw a dart at a map) and a good break from continued research and planning, you're all invited to come along and see what I find!

Hopefully you are enjoying this UK travel series as much as we are and we are managing to show you just some of the stunning landscapes that England has to offer in this British travel vlog.
As usual, we have tried to include a bit of everything, some cinematic scenery mixed with our usual female van life foolery, we always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!
Follow us on our journey as we attempt to create a proper youtube travel series as we, two female travelers and vanlifers, attempt to travel across Europe in our rolling tiny home.

I am being a bit cheeky and commenting here instead of writing the 580th comment, but... I love van life content and your video, but most van life YTers do not film in grocery stores etc. For us outside the UK, seeing an English grocery store, seeing what you buy, the prices etc is interesting. Just like you filmed in Willy's and Norwegian grocery stores because it was a bit different and exotic, the same applies for us non British people viewing your videos.

Lou, picking up rubbish is never pointless. Firstly and most importantly, thank you for doing it. Secondly, the less there is the fewer the number of people who drop litter. Our city centre is swept every two hours to keep rubbish to a minimum because research has shown that the less there is, the less is dropped. Thirdly, the whole place looks better for being picked up. Fourthly - if people see you doing it, they will be more likely to feel they can also pick up rubbish. The first time I did it around where I lived I filled three carrier bags. There has never been that much again, and I mention to people that I do it, whereupon they start doing it. It's changed the area around where I live permanently and I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I know it was me starting it that made the difference because I started doing it about six years ago having lived here for 30 years. It has never gone back to being as bad as it was before I started. None of us will ever be willing to pay enough Council Tax to keep people employed to keep the streets and roads free of litter because there will always be a very few people who think chucking their rubbish about is perfectly okay. If litter pickers such as us just keep at it the whole place will be cleaned up in no time at all.

Good on you. Set an example. As you say the less there is, the less there will be. Driving in Italy, down to Rome, I could not believe how much rubbish there was. Everywhere. Its my abiding memory it was that bad. Litter pickers are lovely people. I am therefore a lovely person, brilliant.

I'm so glad you brought up the rubbish issue, please do not stop talking about it even if its just in passing. Where I live i rural Devon the lanes have gotten really bad and I'm pretty sure it started to get really extra bad from during the start of the first lockdown. I do not know what kind of ******* chucks rubbish out their car window, some of it could be from the recycling lorries but sorry I do think foreign or even homegrown parcel delivery van drivers could be a prime suspect. PS this was a really good video idea I really enjoyed it.

I always enjoy your vlogs and the "let the dart hit the map and decide your travel fate" was a great idea. I did feel bad that the places were not more park-like for you to enjoy the outdoors or a walk. But happy to see you back on the road; the split screen of you driving and the road view (View of Lou and Lou's View) was really good! And yes, ppl who litter make me mad too (you are not alone in your frustration). Thanks for sharing the solo drive and of course Hello to Em and the pets at home 🙂

Hey Louise! You are not alone in your abhorrence of litter - and you're not the only country that should be embarrassed about it. Here in Canada we see the same things but we have more miles of unspoilt wilderness to dump in. Cities over the last two and a half years have drastically cut back on maintaining roads, clearing rubbish, street cleaning etc and haven't bothered to reinstate any such thing, at least not to its pre-panic level anyway. It's not just garbage here but overgrown weeds, grasses and tree branches. Now, I'm a country girl with no interest in manicured lawns and pristine parks but we do have a tick problem here (not to mention the druggies with their needles) and long grasses in public areas is a danger to everyone. Having personal trash amongst all that is quite depressing to look at! Please, keep mentioning it. As the old adage goes: the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Speaking of old....those atlas books are the BEST way to navigate....yes, I'm older than you but that doesn't mean I haven't TRIED using a 3 inch screen to use a map but.....I need to see the big picture lol! It's funny but I do all the driving AND the navigating while his nibs sits with his nose two inches from a screen trying to find the place I've already located in a map book. I will say that your Newmarket is a much better town than our Newmarket (Ontario)! Love the vid - can't wait for Part 2!

I used to walk atop the north pennines. Miles from any road, i found a "supermarket bag" with rubbish in it. The fact that people had to walk miles to get there, loving the "blooming heather", yet still trashed it, made me "light headed with rage". This was in the 80's. Still riles me to this day.

Great vlog. I agree, picking up rubbish is a great past time and the more people that do it, the cleaner our Country will be. It is the minority that adds to this problem which is why we are so shocked when we see people lobbing nappies out of cars etc. I read a lot of David Sedaris books. He is an American humorist author (lives in the UK) who has a sick sense of humour but, he famously picks up litter wherever he is. In fact, in his home town they have a refuse truck un his honour! If you're gonna pick up his books - try, 'When you are engulfed in flames' or 'Me talk pretty one day'. In fact, all his books are a great read, even if you do cringe in places. Happy trails both. Mal, Ruth and Raffy.

Just last night, I was parked at the second one!! It was disgusting, but I was tired and cut short my trip. The sofa was gone but there was a fridge instead!! The rubbish was just as bad. There was even some tissues with what look and had the sent of human faeces, I did not pick those ones up, I stayed away from the used condoms as well. And you are right the place was full of bins!! The field had started growing some new seedling but it was not obvious to walk across, i took my dog for a walk around the edges which turned out to be a good walk but not picturesque at all, except for the view of the steeple. I have not written a review yet but will. I think whatever film you present us is excellent and interesting. You are obviously a pro and you are good at it.

Rubbish - NOT your video Lou. What is this tiny country to do about this real issue? Like you, when I am out on my bike at a local beautiful place, I bag up as much as I can and put it in the bins at either end of the river path, many others do as well. Good on you for "banging on" about this. You ask "what did I think". Well, different, still the same top quality and informative, brilliant idea for selecting a park up, always entertaining. Fully understand the need to have solo time. I am sure the little one is catching up on re-stocking the hidden storage in the house and shed. The only downside with solo is I miss the banter. Looking forward to Pt 2.

Fomble with her key a bit, take your/her time, turn the key to the point where all lights is lit. And when they shut of a few, it's start-up time. Hi bjorn, I usually start her up a good 10 mins before I film it. The truth is no one wants to see me sitting there waiting for the glow plug relay to click off and the engine to warm up. The videos would get very boring if there was lots of footage of me slowly getting the van ready lol 😂 Hope that hasn’t ruined the vids for you. 😀

Garbage is everywhere. In Sweden and in the UK. However, i have to say, when i was travelling in Scotland it was so sad to see the garbage coming in from the sea and fill up small beaches. We came across a meadow up on the road through Glen Coe, and that meadow was the choice for someone to dump car batteries and tons of other stuff. Over here in Sweden i think we manage to keep the highways kind of clean, mostly due to "clean up parties" that takes place every spring where volunteers and school classes help out. If we hadnt that, i am sure our highways and road would look just like yours. It is mind boggling how garbage disposal can be so hard to deal with! People! Other than that, i really enjoyed your "dart trip", thank you for sharing!

You anyways apologise for your rants about litter. I don't know why. I couldn't agree more! Thank you for litter picking. If we all do this whenever we can, the world is that little bit nicer! :) Great video as always. Looking forward to part two!

I used to drive all over the country for years doing building surveys. I often took my dog with me which forced me to take breaks to walk him. I would usually have to stop randomly where there was parking and a footpath sign. Not all were great successes but I was usually pleasantly surprised that 5 minutes away from the parking there were often lovely walks. Looking forward finding out what happens to your fanny at park up 3!

that was actually quite interesting Lou and a fun way to choose places. would've liked to have seen the alternative park up for night 2 as it looked like it was by water - but then, it was only a sleepover. and you actually appeared to take that pesky clothesline with you!

Have to agree about the UK litter problem. I now live in France and it is so noticeable every time I visit. M25 has skip lorries that just distribute it everywhere , people throwing stuff out of cars and of course financial cut backs means the cleaning crews are less are less. Your rubbish tip layby would have had a clean up visit from the council but now it is out of sight so out of mind.

Well certainly different , but so worthy. Yes why all the rubbish , and yes why throw out the window disgusting , well any rubbish really . Yes we as a country are supposedly intelligent and considerate . Not about this . Am enjoying this so much . But would really like you to do different areas ie Wales, Scotland , England and then different parts in each . And compare all and everything, that content would be let’s say challenging and also most people down here in the south or just England would be shamed . As I think we would let ourselves down . So yes keep going and waiting to watch . It’s fun.👏👏👏❤️👍🐾

We LOVE your narrating Sharing skills words and thoroughness. not sure we doing well with our words. Just those little things like the title and why with making use of the key words is so helpful as we learn to develop our skills here. having a processing language disorder (rare dyslexia) and being better with numbers which actually help teach us our words means that succeeding with youtube and algorithms etc proves challenging for our channels. kinda luckily we are still main focus on us and our healing sharing our live real-time reality process navigating shadow dancing (shadow work/dark night of the soul hate those words) basically managing life with many differences which we have finally accepted are learning to embrace and are grateful for. THANKS FOR BEING TRUE TO YOU AND SHARING YOUR WONDERFUL SELF & WAYS! xxxxx
