To be fair, Hell Let Loose has never been a true milsim. It's always been a fun run 'n' gun shooter. It's pretty telling that HLL's player base refers to milsims as "walking simulators".

I took advantage of the deal and while the learning curve is pretty steep, its got one of the most welcoming communities ive been able to experience in a while. Got a few chances after maining infantry to play in a tank as a commander and rolled through some more experienced crews with little support and good comms :) game is great and when you get lobbies with teammates who communicate it goes into a whole new feeling.

This is why i prefer Squad 44, i like getting kills and actually making a difference on the battle with every kill. I've got 1,200 hours in HLL and i noticed if i never found an enemy spawn, i'll hardly have done anything impactful.

I was thinking of buying the game, but I was hesitating because of some mixed opinions, I can say it hands down, best FPS game, in any genre I've played. I must give a try to Arma Reforger aswell, or Arma 4 when it's out. Guns work like guns, explosives work like explosives, combat is tactical and slow, but also escalates very quickly.

@@Rosaslav I enjoy the strategy side of it. Also, the majority of players are super nice to play with and on good servers, you get some great team work. There is so much variety in Hell Let Loose; different roles, game modes, maps... it means that most games are unique and you can mix it up to make it fun. Of course, not every game and moment is 100% enjoyable, being slaughtered repeatedly on the front line allowing another squad to flank can be pretty soul destroying but the whole game in general is a lot of fun. I can think of at least 30 other female competitive level players too, which rocks :)

HLL is my go to PC game. When they put console players in PC lobbies it was the first nail in the coffin. Now the free players are a whole new problem. Very few people communicate now or even listen. Why go SL or even play without a mic?

TLDR, Squads spawn system is better. Hell Let Loose has some problems that make it feel bad. I would say the spawn system that won't let you keep spawns behind enemy lines is one of the big problems that I see. Also when a section is taken over it wipes all spawns up to a given line. I think the spawn system is something that I hate.

Most of the tactics come from the spawning system. You can build behind enemy lines (two squares into the red with 100 supplies) but they lock if an enemy is within 100 meters in enemy territory.. the sniper can put the Outpost anywhere. It takes a while to learn but it's worth it in my opinion
